  1. See i'd never do that if i wanted someone to play a Souls game after only hearing about it before. I'd wait for them to try it first. Who knows, maybe they'd like if from the get go like i did and i had no idea what i was getting into with Demon's souls ( i still have my first build, it was completely broken but after 500 hours it got better. =D). Hmm i'd probably do this for all the games. Eh, I guess both approaches have their merits. I find that if I know what to expect I enjoy the game more. In the case of Dark Souls, this meant knowing what sorcery could do as a build.
  2. Sorry about the snide remarks, but when you go off about how there's "one true way" to do a certain kind of build you kind of have to expect it. Your one true way isn't everyone's one true way. Glass cannon is one way to play sorcery, but not the only way. And sorcery worked just fine for me as a new player, so I would hesitate to advise people against choosing it. I would suggest doing some research, but I'd suggest that for any build. I'd suggest players avoid going into the game and making uninformed build choices.
  3. They could be an angsty metaphor for teenager, but they weren't limited to that. Also, Wraith was hella fun. As far as White Wolf goes, the White Wolf we have today is not the White Wolf we had a decade or two decades ago. This White Wolf's lead storyteller (Martin Elricsson) has expressed his utter disdain for "urban fantasy" and you can see it expressed in this interview as something White Wolf previously did wrong in his eyes.
  4. I guess by your definition, my sorcery build wasn't a sorcery build. Glad I didn't submit it to you for approval. Seriously, though, I found sorcery did trivialize a lot of the game. And I mean, I didn't find the Capra Demon very hard at all. I just know for some people it was a serious roadblock.
  5. Couple things: The Capra Demon is a wall for a lot of people. Not strictly because of the demon (which isn't hard by himself) but the two dogs with the Capra Demon. Dodging that first attack is also fairly difficult because of the tiny space you have to work with and where everything starts. I found it worked better to have a decent amount of poise to tank that first hit. As a beginner, a sorcery build was just fine for me. Maybe I did it wrong. I mean I wasn't aware that sorcery meant glass cannon.
  6. I checked my character again today and the intelligence ain't that high. Most points are spent for attunement(12). I reached level 7 and I am spending most of my points on Vitality, Endurance and Strenght. Most fights are easy but I have trouble with archers and enemies that throw bombs at you from a distance. Gotta supply myself with knives for now as I couldn't find any arrows for the crossbow. So there aren't a lot of firebombers in the game. The three most annoying ones are right near the first bonfire in Undeadburg. You can just run past them and once you're out of that area they will usually ignore you. I've had them ambush me while I was fighting the next set of mobs (who also throw bombs), though, so it's not guaranteed. Archers though, I think that two of the most frustrating non-boss enemies are archers. Fortunately, there's only two of them, and you will know when you see them. Most of the hollow archers you can just charge up to and kill without a lot of trouble, though. I can only think of seven hollow archers offhand, and they're all pretty easy to deal with. Two are a bit problematic because there are a lot of other mobs in the area as well, but if you're careful you should be fine.
  7. Heretic II, god help me. At least it runs! :D
  8. Yeah, as I understand it, sorceries are considered to be the "easy" mode for Souls games, because there's a lot less technical mastering of the gameplay mechanics required. I've never played a sorceries build (the style of combat is just not really for me...even on my NG7 run, I still stayed at around level 100 instead of leveling up any further so that I could still play PVP)...so I can't really confirm that for sure, but that is my understanding. Yeah, I edited my post to acknowledge that. I had a really easy time with several bosses. Now all I have to do is finish the darned game instead of creating alts.
  9. If you raised your int enough you'll be able to supplement your pyromancies with sorceries, which tend to have more uses and longer range than pyromancies. I'm not really saying it's better, I mean my first character uses both sorceries and pyromancies. It's more that you have more flexibility with your casting. Sorcery also trivializes several bosses. If you can survive entering the capra demon's area and run up the stairs, there's a place you can stand that the capra demon can't reach. Just kill the dogs, then blast the demon down. Also trivialized the Gaping Dragon, but idk if it's that hard of a boss to begin with, so. Not in every case, though. Had a bit of a rough time with the gargoyles because two of them and casting animations are so long that dodging was difficult.
  10. So the lead story guy at White Wolf absolutely hates urban fantasy, or at least hates the idea of the World of Darkness being urban fantasy. I don't know what this will mean for any computer games set in the World of Darkness. I do know a Werewolf computer game is in the works, however.
  11. To be fair, I do enjoy The Secret World (and its successor, Secret World Legends). I know nothing about Shadow Realms. I guess for some variety of urban fantasy there's the Shadowrun games (Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall, and Hong Kong) although they're cyberpunk mixed with urban fantasy. Is there anything else?
  12. Yeah, I'll second this. We need more good urban fantasy in our computer games.
  13. Redacted because talking to some people is a waste of time
  14. Uncharted is another one I didn't want to list because I hadn't played it yet (although I will soon). Most of the reviews I've seen for The Division were pretty negative, though.
  15. Dark Souls III, XCOM 2, Overwatch, Doom, and Total War: Warhammer come to mind. The long anticipated Last Guardian and Final Fantasy 15 came out in 2016 too. Personally, I really enjoyed Stellaris, Tyranny, Grim Dawn, Dex, Oxenfree, and the Technomancer. I wanted to list some of those but I haven't played them yet.
  16. Dark Souls III, XCOM 2, Overwatch, Doom, and Total War: Warhammer come to mind.
  17. Do people have short memories? I'm honestly curious because part of what ruins any replays for me is basically remembering every single quest and every single outcome after I've played through before. So instead of any sense of awe, I end up reacting like, "And now he'll say this" or "And now this happens next". Sometimes I enjoy replaying games that I know backward and forward. I mean, sure, I know what's going to happen but generally I can also make different choices to change things up a bit.
  18. The current difficulty levels are an improvement over the Normal/Nightmare/Hell/Inferno. For one thing it means you don't have to play the game three times to reach maximum difficulty. For another, it means you have control over how hard your game is.
  19. Apparently you can still play Starcraft with people who have the now free original edition, too. So yay for Blizzard not splitting the userbase, even for a 20 year old game.
  20. It's time to admit I have a problem. I have hundreds of games on Steam, GOG, and Origin combined. I haven't played most of them. I need to play at least some of them. Slowly working my way through.
  21. There is a trick in Icewind Dale that I read on an FAQ when I was playing through it. Make all of your characters human and have them start out as fighters, but give them the attributes that would fit their roles. Once they hit level 2 or 3 and have a good HP base, dual class them over to their final classes, and it becomes a little harder to wipe out the mages and other low HP roles. (I also liked it because my mages were able to use longbows, which made them useful whenever they ran out of spells or nothing they had memorized could help in the given situation). Of course, IWD was supposed to be hard; I think the beginning of BG was just poor design (in their defense, most of the people hadn't ever worked on a game before, much less an RPG, so we're lucky it's as good as it was.) IWD is supposed to be hard? I always found the early game easier than the early game in Baldur's Gate. Part of it I think was that the characters got out of the early levels relatively quickly. It was hard later on, though, can't deny that.
  22. So I'm splitting my time between Shadow of Mordor and Secret World Legends. Having fun with SWL for the moment, but I am dubious as to the sustainability with all the keys you need to get gear.
  23. Discretion is the better part of valor as far as this game is concerned. Specially if you're dealing with archers. Yeah, I picked that up rather quickly. I've had a couple tricky situations due to being a bit careless with the controller in the middle of fights, and then there was a forced encounter during a mission with six orcs and a caragor. I did have archer trouble once but once I knew they were present it was easy to deal with them.
  24. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. The difficulty in this is either really swingy or I'm having trouble adapting to the controls. Still, I'm having a pretty fun time at it.
