  1. Question Boer: Am I required to shift weapons continuously in combat? I really don't like doing that, it's not realistic..
  2. Hard to understand all the possibilities, but I did I don't dump anything, 'cos I don't like minmaxing. I'm more like a "nothing below 10" type of player. Balance is the word. Gunslinger is fine, but the main problem remains, he just stands there doing bang bang until the others crash and burn... nothing to do.. Kana-clone.
  3. Then you will shoot instead of swing? I don't see where the chanter is so much more passive than a fighter for example. A fighter gains more and more active abilities from which to choose. The chanter just adds chants. Once added to the sequence.. it's full autopilot. Well... I can't remember who it was right now... but someone told me that the chanter gets boring unless in PotD due to shorter battles which don't allow him to get to the nth chant... It's quite true. But I don't wanna play very hard, because I'm a relative beginner... catch 22....
  4. Yes, this is clear but... it's all automatic... nothing to do... just tell him the order of the chants... and do nothing else... What if I change the concept to ranged and then take ILA?
  5. I don't love microing, Boer knows that. But still.. I'd like to do SOMETHING in combat... Standing around waiting for paint to dry is not exactly my idea... Skalds should relish in the battle, weaving their axes, but I'm missing something that can grant me the opportunity to do that. (The game also doesn't make combat very epic... it's instead very static, with its "almost turn based actions"...no epic at all... oh well...) This, and the fact that in the very start, I don't get to the 2nd chant and all around me are as good as dead...
  6. Little question... just played some 40 minutes... and I'm wondering: It's ok that Chanters have no micromanagement but... I don't need to do anything else than attack? If so, I can see why some guy some posts ago told me it's boring... Yeah, once 3 chants is reached I have to (or better, can) throw in an invocation but... nothing more to do? No special abilities even at higher levels? No "per encounter" or "per rest" abilities that can change the outcome of a battle?
  7. I'm building my chanter on the basis of Rheingold's example couple pages up. Lore, Survival, Mechanics. Either 2 hatchets or 1 hatchet 1 round shield, pale elf, prolly white that wends, mystic. High Mental stats along with good strenght. Let's see what comes out of it. I'll be able to respec the stats later if something goes wrong.. Edit. Rhein... the first hatchet only please!
  8. Where it comes from is of little relevance Boer... The Idea I have in mind, is a fanatic "almost possessed" bard/barbarian who exalts his comrades with war chants and cries. I don't exactly know if this translates better into a chanter or into a barbarian, in the world of PoE... I vote for a chanter. As for the race, I could pick human, sure it fits better than elf, but game-wise, he's noticeably weaker in special abilities... humans are so...meh...
  9. Yeah, I know... but it's not how I intend my Skald to be... let's see if I can clarify this for you guys: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/95/4e/49/954e49337938de5c35324f02a0d3c7b1.png Hope it works....
  10. Dwarf...Don't Like... not savage enough. I too liked human, but it's so... predictable... and no really good bonus... What you say about skalds is true, Scandinavian origin. But the hatchet is the signature weapon of that people. We could cope with the battle axe, no big difference, more damage, less defense. I don't know if I like barbarian (not as a class, which I like, but lore-wise). They don't have any war chant or cry... I wish I could multiclass...
  11. Monks are sure more fun imo. Even if you'd play 'em bare handed, they're fun. Boeroer knows I'm no expert in PotD, but since monk is a class that relishes on pain, I'd say he's right to say they're more suited for you than the plain fighter..
  12. I played rogue for a while, and all considered... it's not that it's weak... problem is it's fragile. You often can't live long enough to dish out what you had in mind. Moreover it's quite micro intensive, requires proper positioning to exploit all his potential. But still.. I find him quite fun to play. The fragility itself, and the fact that you must always be properly placed, along with my inexperience in the role, convinced me to try a ranged buccaneer aumaua. Details in my thread, if you're curious.
  13. Deflection for me please! Skalds don't wear heavy. They wear the skin of killed beasts.
  14. I does fit my idea of Skald. I'm just getting doubts about the weapons... skalds use hatchets... but they are weak... sigh..
  15. Well Boer, I don't wanna solo, y'know... so I'll get help from my comrades... What do you prefer as bg? White or Lands? And even if the chants get better with 1 hand...would you not take 2weapons or weapon and shield?
  16. Heyyy from what I understand you're THE authority in the mad Chanter! So... I thought I could benefit either aesthetically or practically from the shield or maybe the 2 hatchets... it's just that I like sticking to a concept...
  17. I know, the scientist will relate to living lands... but those are described as savage and full of madmen so I thought it fit...
  18. Here's a build that I've come out with: A pale Elf, from the White t.w. armed with hatchet and board. Background: mystic (or scientist...maybe he takes alchemical drugs to go in trance during battle cries?) Someone can maybe tell me if, once in the expansions the cold resistance will prove useful? Anyway.. just comment
  19. I'm at work now, so I will only test all this between this evening and tomorrow... but I'll try.
  20. It requires a lot of positioning... I'm not very familiar with this playstile...that's why I asked for a Ranged buccaneer...hehe
  21. Nothing keeps crazies from using staffs. I mean, look at Durance! Hey, durance is not crazy... poor man... or at least not like maerwald!
  22. fair enough... I tried it this morning, but it was kinda hard to survive if I ever get in melee...
  23. I mean that skalds use hatchets... they're crazy visionaries not calm travellers...
  24. Would you go human or aumaua? (or other race?) The staff may be useful but is out of context...
