TrueNeutral, the part about melody, if you listen to rap, almost all of it has a melody playing in the background. Are you even capable of having a simple discussion without acting like a child? You just throw opinion after opinion at us. I mean, you're telling us that anyone who says rap is music needs "a big smack in the face with the 'stop being such a goddamned tool' hammer." The "definition" of music has been "expanding" since long before the 1500's. During the Fux era, it was considered a sin even to play certain intervals. You weren't creating "music" unless you followed certain rules. And that is the problem. Popular opinion of what music is, is not the same as what the definition of music could be.

While I feel most things are relative, and even most things having to do with music is also relative, I do not think that what makes up music is. I feel that there are certain components that make up music, and that as long as you have those, then you have music. I don't feel it right if you say one thing is music, and then you take something with the same core elements and say it isn't.

Because you said it isn't music? That's really the only reason you give as to why drums and talking isn't considered music. You see, rhythm is classified as music. Drum are an instrument, and a drum beat alone constitutes as music. Many countries in Africa and South America have music based on drums alone. And also, you are sying that if "Mogwai" wasn't classified as music, you wouldn't like it? I'm not twisting your words there, you said that. You said "If it was [neccesary], I wouldn't be a rabid Mogwai fan." They got the idea because it shows a few of the core elements needed to make music.
