Well, as a ceritfied Class A Alien version 2.6 (BetaSquad edition) myself, I have to tell you that this is the most correct answer so far on this topic. Very good guesses all around, but you were all off by just a tad. Must be the puny 3 Dimentions you are confined to. We have 5...thousand. Btw, have any of you read the short story 'The Road Not Taken' by Harry Turtledove? It has a very unique view on the whole idea of how alien life might have evolved. But then again, so does 'Devolution', 'Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed', and 'One' (Not all by that author of course, but all as thought provoking)

Once again... Neither.

I couldn't find a copy of the complete first season anywhere nearby, but I did pick up a copy of "Farscape: Best of the First Season" I've watched 3 of the 6 episodes. My analysis: Holy crap. I love this show. How did I miss this show when it came out?! You find out about the strangest things from the oddest places. Phosphor, thanks for the tip. I only wish that the Farscape DVDs weren't so overpriced. Now I'm going to look around for some of the complete collections for rent. This show is just that good.

I've never heard of this show, but it sounds really good. I think I once saw one episode of this show a long time ago, and it was interesting to watch, but I never found out what the name of the show was. If I buy a season, what season should a newcomer watch? Should I start at the beginning or is that not required to understand the plot/characters?

If your avatar looks like you, then it might not be your frown they are running from... (j/k) On topic: No!!! The US men's fencing team were SO close to the Bronze metal win...
-
I love fencing, been doing it for about 3 years (only gone to about 4 competitions, and yet I somehow got to the US Summer Nationals ) I prefer foil, although I can fence in epee or sabre if I have to for some odd reason, but I'm only good at foil. I'm not great, but decent for a U (the lowest level fencer, U stands for Unranked) I can't talk, I'm a suburban wimp. My plan for fending of an intruder is...um...give me a second here....carry a shotgun?

Loki would own. For a moment, forget about the fact that he spent the last eternity with a snake dripping poison over his head. He is a master trickster, and if fighting came around, he could convince some other god to act as a bodyguard (Thor is out of the question, but Ares could make a fine sub). Well, all of the gods would probably split into five hundred factions and duke it out to the death, right? Well, Loki could just stay on the sidelines and goad them on. "Zeus, did you here that Thor called your robe a dress?" "Hey Hera! Zeus is getting it on with Odin in the back room! I think he's cheating on you again!" "Hey Giants! Look at that! Hercules is dead! No more invincible hero to save the Gods this time! Go get em!" And so on until everyone is almost dead, and Loki gets Aphrodite (sp?). He wouldn't even have to lift a finger, and if any thunderbolts come his way he could just get Ares or some other stupid god to jump in the way. B)

...A what?

^ One down, 1,734 to go... All the Lims Lims need is a cult, and then the master plan can be set in motion. B)

I got really lucky with PS:T. Found it used in EB games for about $5, just before Interplay closed and it became worth $60. Only game I have played ever since. Lucky me. For a more accurate decription of the Lim Lim, they are these tiny little frog like things that can jump fifty feet in the air. You can buy one as a pet. At one point in the game, a Limlim is summoned by a group of wizards, and it promtly devours them all. That is why the Lim Lim rules all. They are mean, green, small enough to sever your hamstrings, and are vicious. I'm afraid of what they would do to a gizka.
-
Lim Lims are the crazy go nuts hopping bad boys of Planescape:torment. Nothing save really high explosives can destroy them. Nothing. Lim Lims own all. This isn't a match, its a massacre.

I remember seeing that to. It was seriously funny, but I wouldn't say it was the best ever. It's weird, I remember seeing it once, but I can't remember where...strange.

I think that the Star Wars Ganster Rap deserves an honorable mention at least. For those who haven't seen it, here is a link: http://www.nerdie.com/starwars.html

Its happened here to: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=1901 Of course, it is only in one topic, and I wouldn't really call this a star wars forum. Its more of a gaming forum with some star wars based stuff. Good forum, though, in my opinion.

So if somebody wrote a great story with interesting characters set in New Jersey in 1987, it would be the same style as Plasescape: Torment? Now thats an idea with promise! Just as long as the setting is as unique as PS:T, I'm happy. Say, for example, you took New Jersey in 1987. Say in an alternate reality, a terrorist cell in New Jersey (stay with me here) discovers the notes of a man who can travel into other realities (say, Norse myths). They use these notes to construct a method of getting into Norse Myths, to summon the gods to wreak unheard of chaos on the US. However, they open this portal at just the wroong time, during Ragnarok. All the gods, giants, and other folks from the Ragnarok spill into New Jersey, and you, an civilian, has to figure out what the f*** jut happened. In the same style of PS:T, if you really wanted to mold the story in that direction. See? A good story idea is easy to make from any setting, but if that story has dull, uninspired plot, archetypical characters, and gameplay to rival Pong and Pacman, then even if it is as cool a setting as PS:T, it is still crap.

*Cough* Bioware *Cough* You were saying? Anyway, I don't think Obsidian should do any MMOGs, or will. If they do, all of their writing talent will be wasted, it would be a pain in the butt to try and inovate enough to compete with the big boys, and the only other option would be to copy Guild Wars. Unless I'm missing something huge when I left the internet for the past week.
-
Exactly. Ask whoever wrote the main storyline of PS:T what kind of story he/she wants to write, and let them do it, and design a game with that. I definately agree. If you think about it, what was the best part of Sigil? The fact that it was unique, it had vastly different characters not contained within archetypes, and the writing was superb. Now, if a sequel to PS:T was made, where would the uniqueness and the style be? Chances are, that by squashing a game in with a premade setting, characters, not to mention WotC and fans looking over Obsidian's shoulder all the way would hurt a game like this, not help it. Now, if Obsidian was able to create a brand new game that was as unique as PS:T, and fill it with the weirdest characters they could, and use lots of good writing, I would be satisfied. And also, if anyone really wants a sequel to PS:T, I'm pretty sure you could team up and make one. I can't remember the site, but there are some people who are recreating Sigil for Neverwinter Nights. If you used their modding tools, you could probably put together some PS mods.
-
Just to let you know, the PS setting *is* still continued, although only semi-officially. Wizards of the Coast gives the nod of aproval to This site. It is still possible for a sequel to be developed if somehow someone buys the rights to make the game (after all, if is a discontinued series, then WotC has nothing to lose from a deal to buy game rights), but the odds of this actually happening are about the odds of Baldur's Gate III being made.
-
Hmm.... Speaking of which, do you even know you owns the rights for Planescape:Torment? I know that the setting belongs to Wizards of the Coast, but what about the game? Otherwise, I think it would be a great idea for a Planescape 2, but I'm not completly convinced that an IP wouldn't be a better choice for Obsidian's next game.

Pong: The RPG Pong was a simple program who wanted nothing more in life than to entertain people. But when the mysterious 133t killed his family, Pong was forced into the danerous world of the Internet with only a few pixels to his name. Can Pong survive in this dangerous world? - 6,824 subquests!! - Exciting NPCs such as the paranoid PacMan ("All around...the ghosts, THEY'RE OUT TO GET ME!") and the powerful Trogdor - Pong can get powerups such as the all powerful 3D upgrade!

Well, if Martin Luther had recanted: My guess is that instead of the major fighting and battles being between the Catholics and Prodestants in Europe, the major battles would be between the Scientists and the Catholics. If the Prodestants never showed up to battle and show another way into heaven then just the Catholic way, the Enlightenment would have never taken off as it did, because the Church would be to powerful to be contested to such a scale. The scientists would be forced to flee to some powerful ruler who diobeyed the Church, and this really powerful leader that stood up against the Church backed by science would fight against the Church. I'm not even going to get into how the countries could have turned out: can't think on short notice with so many variables!!! My alternate history question is: If during his conquest, Alexander spent more time in India and therefore never died during his conquest, how would the world be different? (Got this idea from A Gun For Aristole by deCamp, if anyone's interested)

I am actually just restarting to play PnP DnD. Most of my friends save one left the game (they couldn't stand the bad graphics ) but now we both are going to restart the game with a few of my cousins.

I was actually thinking more of an introduction thread, but I still feel like a retard for making this. Please, just let this thread die *smacks self on head*

I can think of a lot of things that would be great for a new IP (personally, I could live without another fallout, *gasp* the horror! As long as Obsidian could distance themselves from Bioware, that is. I think that if Obsidian grew up as a child to Bioware, then all of its RPGs would be basically bioware RPGs under a different name. Bioware is a great company, but I for one am ready for a bit of change. Well, one thing I really want is choice in a game. Not to much choice (aka Morrowind), but enough so the story feels character driven (I probably didn't have that much choice of what to do in PS:T, but I sure felt like I did!)
-
Anything but fantasy. I'm starting to get sick of the basic fantasy plot(s), and unless Obsidian can think of anything beyond awsome for fantasy (PS:T-like), I'm going for sci-fi.
