Yes-ish, but in some circumstances federal agencies are better positioned to gather the data and provide direct input to legislators regarding policy proposals. The big thing that smjjames is pointing out is the existence of the Dickey Amendment. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has proposed studying firearm deaths like any other human disease. Identify the base causes, mechanisms of dispersion, second- and third-order effects, lethality factors, etc... But because of that amendment from 1996, the CDC is barred from doing research which may conclude that any forms of gun control may lead to a decrease in fatalities. The guy who actually sponsored that amendment, Jay Dickey, has actually been on the record for years saying that he's regretted the effect of the law he wrote. There's just no political will to go back and fix it, because #reasons, or something,.

Yeah. That was a working theory for a little while. At least maybe that the names of the GOG titles themselves would hold some sort of clue. But as it turns out, you can type almost any string of characters into GOG and it will parse out as a expired or non-redeemable code for some game. Just now, I randomly generated bJapmN, and it swears that it might have been good for a copy of Witcher 3 at some point. It's an interesting bit of info for sure, but GOG redeemability seems to be a red herring in whatever this Deadfire code business is about.

Yup! The biggest argument in support of the 'o' is that the second character is missing all the serifs and asymmetry we'd expect to see in a 'b'.

Upon further review, I'm going to have to go with: CoC6eF Right at the end of the loop, the flash has slightly different effects on the wall texture and the code laid on top.

https://twitter.com/WorldofEternity/status/963880530004471808 CbC6eF ? Edit, I'm thinking that it might be a CoC6eF. Lighting effects and wall textures might give the appearance of a 'b', but that second letter better fits a lower-case 'o' in the chosen font. See later posts.

Should have a new Bestiary twitter post in a few hours. In the meantime, we just have to guess which one it will be.

Lets not forget the most essential secret of Dwarven physiology: The Dwarf is the beard. All the fleshy bits like arms and legs just help it navigate the world and perform essential tasks like working the forge or hoisting tankards. It is truly heartbreaking to see them in such a reduced state. It can only be hoped that the developers will allow these noble kith to grow to their fullest potential.

Oof. Then we'd be in some trouble. Aside from being able to do some simple transliteral shifts from, say, Aedyran-English to Latin-English, I don't think we know enough about the base languages to do much else.

It doesn't have to be a stutter! Sometimes you just need a trained Shakespearean actor to bring a line to life. EDIT: Originally misspelled Eothas in my low-quality meme. Am suitably embarrassed, and will carry this shame eternally, or at least until tomorrow or so.

Yeah. That feels likely. Embedding random GOG codes all over the internet is an esoteric way of dropping hints, especially when none of them seem to have any bearing on the game you're trying to hype. Edit: Yeah, generated a bunch of random 6-digit codes over here, and almost all of them redeemed to some expired offer without worrying about forward/backward nonsense.

Aside from XQrdGv on the front page of UK PC Gamer, the issue also features the screenshots with RMaM4A and KFK5Lj on pages 43 and 45. I wonder what further mysteries the US edition, or other magazine features might bring us...

The code is hidden on the side of the stairs by the main entrance: As far as the order goes, I can put up a list by possible published date, but the last two and the mockup image were spotted on more than one site as we were looking around. It might take a little bit of investigation to determine where and when it was published first.

also: 5. Five out of eight codes were images posted by obsidian, and in all likelihood, there are seven or eight more to come.* *(Assuming a new code every Wednesday through launch) The press kit codes are cool finds, but we're probably going to have at least a dozen codes straight from the developer's own twitter accounts that were never meant to be on other sites anyway.

Thanks! I added that to the first post. I'm not sure I can ever be 100% on that lowercase 'a', but as the bestiary gif loops over and over, you eventually see enough of that glyph that it probably can't be anything else. All the codes so far have used the (awesome) Pillars in-game font called Espinosa Nova. If a letter looks a little difficult to recognize, you can always compare it to some sample strings over here.

Yes.. Yes we have! Code 8, courtesy of @ManifestedISO. RMaM4A This post has like 20 leads on it. It's our best bet since it looks like different press kits might have different codes in them. Fun times!

Fellow codeninja BeautifulBearInATutu pointed it out to me over on discord. It looks to have been part of a Deadfire press kit that was posted here: http://www.rpgfan.com/pics/Pillars_of_Eternity_II_Deadfire/ The press kit includes that image, as well as the physical mockup image with the cCedpo code that was first seen on the THQ Nordic site. Since they were both part of a press kit, and their publishing and discovery are essentially whenever, it's really going to screw up any theories that require the codes to be in a specific sequence to make sense.

Ok, I've got an informant that tells me that the cosmic dog console code doesn't look anything at all like the alphanumeric strings we've been finding. Doesn't necessarily rule out the codes working in the console, but we're not going to know for sure until release when all the assets and scripts are in place. The doggo code currently doesn't work with the beta either.

I've also been wondering if that's the case. The whole thing reminds me a little of how Bungie randomly hid emblem/shader codes all over the internet in preparation for the Destiny 1 release. It might not be some clever cipher, but there's still some fun to be had playing scavenger hunt the next two months before launch.

You probably won't have to buy anything to get the dog. I haven't quite convinced anyone to give up the full details, but the "redemption" process is just an in-game console command, not a Steam key or something similar. I'm curious to know what that secret command is, but I'm willing to wait until the issue hits the US later this month.
