  1. There is currently a bug (or is that a feature?) that if your character dies during a scenario and doesn't get the scenario reward, that character can't get that scenario reward later in a second try. And as you probably don't want characters that have permanently missed important rewards like skill, power, or card feats in your group, you might as well play with permadeath and put the same or another basic character in to replace the dead adventurer.
  2. I see Pathfinder Adventures as being somewhere at the border between board games and video games. On the one side you get the option of buying a very good simulation of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game for $25, which is significantly less than paying for the same cards in physical form. On the other side you can play Pathfinder Adventures as a Free2Play mobile game, and then it acquires some of the characteristics of typical Free2Play mobile games. As others already said, having daily gold or other daily rewards that prompt you to start the game every day is very typical of Free2Play mobile games. If you don't like that, the $25 bundle is the better option, as there is really no good reason to buy the daily gold in addition to that. I am looking forward to the next patch fixing the quest mode, because then Pathfinder Adventures becomes even more like a mobile game with persistent character progress over long periods of time. I found the story mode works better if you start over from time to time, with a different group and/or group size.
  3. Yes, adding a new character has the downside of you being unable to choose his starting cards. I also found that changing the number of characters in the group results in a very different experience of the game, so maybe starting over is the better plan.
  4. You will probably want to arrive at a tank, healer, thief, mage group of 4 at some point. So you might want to plan ahead: For example if you take Seoni now, with her high charisma, you'll probably want to complement that with Valeros next. If you prefer Seelah as your tank, you might want to take Ezren as your mage instead, because otherwise you have too many high charisma characters and are lacking in other areas. Note that this are all just suggestions. Instead of going the classical route, you can also take some of the more exotic and allround characters like Lini. That also depends on whether you prefer to split your group up, or have several characters at the same location, because characters like Lem and Valeros give bonuses to others at the same location, while Harsk is giving bonuses to characters at other locations.
  5. So yes, you need to log on every day to get your gold. *But* if your game is stuck in limbo, there are solutions. The simplest one is to uninstall the game and reinstall it. You'll keep all your gold and purchases, but lose all your story and character progress, so you can start afresh. The only thing that is unplayable right now is quest mode, for story mode you can get your game unstuck.
  6. I was okay with the one that reduces the number of blessings by 5, but the Night Approaching one I found very hard, which means I failed more than 5 times on average to acquire a boon, even on heroic. On legendary, with the one that make acquiring boons harder it would be totally lethal.
  7. When I start a new group, I see Brigandoom! available as Normal and Legendary, while Heroic is locked. I guess that's the same bug, because once I play Normal, I unlock Heroic, and all three are unlocked.
  8. As I had had problems with the haunts in the Foul Misgivings scenario, on my next group I remembered to keep the ally Aldern Foxglove when I found him in an earlier adventure. So now I play Foul Misgivings with Seoni at the Academy holding the Aldern Foxglove ally card in her hand, while Seelah at the Prison encounters The Skinsaw Man; and suddenly the screen switches to Seoni, Aldern Foxglove disappears from her hand, and is replaced by the Stalker Mask, without me having done anything that could possibly cause that. Did I overlook some rule here, or is this a bug? Not that the Stalker Mask is a bad item, but it felt weird for it to suddenly appear and Aldern to disappear. Furthermore I can't see the Aldern Foxglove ally card in the Vault / Gallery, and have no idea how to re-acquire him. Any ideas on that?
  9. I would say that the $25 bundle to buy all adventures and all characters is a deterministic price (that is, no randomness involved). I think the treasure chests with random loot are in most *for* the people who buy the bundle, because they have nothing else to spend their gold on. And the chests are all just extra options, you don't need them to play.
  10. I just playtested it. There *is* a bug. You get 100 gold each time you beat Brigandoom! on normal, plus whatever gold you find during play. On the other hand right now grinding gold via quest mode is not an option for most players, so I'm thankful that this bug that allows grinding gold in story mode is in.
  11. I'm playing Pathfinder Adventures on two different tablets, an iPad Air 2 and a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, and I noticed that on both of these tablets my battery power drains rather quickly when playing this game. The Lenovo is also getting rather hot in the process. Am I just imagining things or is Pathfinder Adventures using more power than other games? I'm a bit surprised because the graphics are mostly 2D. Is it because of the Unity engine?
  12. As I understand it, the devs not only have to code a patched version, but they then have to submit that patch to Apple and go through a tedious bureaucratic process before the patch arrives at the end user. It isn't unusual to have to wait for 2 weeks for a patch. I disagree that the software is "non-working". The story mode is working rather well, and is actually a very good replacement for playing the card game solo. As a "board game simulation" that works perfectly well, and can occupy you for hundreds of hours playing through the 13 scenarios at different difficulty levels and with groups of different sizes and compositions. The quest mode is an attempt to make the game work more like a typical mobile game with permanent character progression. Even when that gets patched to work, I'm not sure that is the best way to play Pathfinder Adventures. I am also a bit wary of the fact that currently character progression is only saved locally and not in the cloud (your purchases and gold are saved in the cloud). I'm counting on buying a new iPad later this year, and as it is that would mean losing all character progression.
  13. After some playtesting I noticed that playing with 4 characters is easier than playing with 2. The less characters you have, the more turns each individual character gets. So if in your turns you use cards that get discarded as opposed to revealed or recharged, you risk running out of lives. With 4 characters I can play my cards far more aggressively, while with 2 characters I need to play really conservatively to not burn through my cards.
  14. I run the game on two platforms, iPad and Android. As those aren't compatible, I only bought the $25 bundle for the iPad and use the Android tablet to play the F2P experience. Buying the first adventure, Burnt Offerings, at 80% off is a no-brainer. But then I would much prefer buying one or two more characters rather than AD2. Ezren and Valeros for 1500 gold each are solid choices to get you a "classic" group of fighter, cleric, thief, mage. Note that if you don't want to grind to get there, you can get all this for $5. The reason why I would prefer more characters is that in Pathfinder Adventures your deck is also your hit points. If you play with only 2 characters, each character has up to 15 turns to play. Every time you play a card that is discarded after use, you weaken your character's health. Yes, Kyra can heal to some extent, but you still need to play your cards conservatively. Playing with 4 characters gives each character a maximum of 8 turns, so they can play their cards far more aggressively. Plus the added characters have different skills, so you can deal better with locations that require for example intelligence / arcane checks to close. The full character add on deck for 10,000 gold I would consider more of a luxury. I'd buy it only after unlocking all adventures.
  15. In story mode your progress is measured by how far along in the story you are. Characters get stronger by gaining skill feats, power feats, card feats etc. as rewards from completing story missions. In quest mode progress is more like classic role-playing games: Your characters gain experience points, which makes them level up, and gain feats with levels. Quest mode is getting fixed in the next update, so for the moment I'd recommend story mode. If you don't know which mode you are in, you are in story mode, as quest mode only unlocks after completing the second scenario in story mode.
  16. I did the same math and that was what scared me away from trying groups of 4 or 6 characters, 60 to 80 cards in locations in only 30 turns sounded hard to do. But it turns out that my math was wrong. While there are 10 cards per location, you usually close them after finding the henchman or boss, who could be anywhere from the first to the last card. So in average you need 5.5 card draws per location: 2 Characters: 22 explorations needed on average 3 Characters: 27.5 explorations needed on average 4 Characters: 33 explorations needed on average 5 Characters: 38.5 explorations needed on average 6 Characters: 44 explorations needed on average If you add various effects that give you more than one exploration per turn, e.g. allies, or spells like Augury, or Seelah's boon-discarding power, the 33 explorations for 4 characters seem quite doable. And if you find the boss somewhere in the middle of the game and can use your other characters to temporarily block all other locations, you win even faster. I also noticed that playing with 4 characters feels very different than playing with 2, for example nearly always having a character who can easily do the closing condition of a location, or far more mutual help with blessings. I like it! Thank you for the advice, all!
  17. It seems the problem is that I already completed Brigandoom with other characters. I was making a "new group" by simply swapping characters out. Now I went back to main screen, choose Story, and a new group and I do see cards in the lower row. However, I only see the basic cards there, not the ones I got from treasure chests.
  18. So this is what happened: I played Foul Misgivings with a group of 2 characters. One character died, but I was able to complete the scenario with just the one remaining character. Rewards screen pops up and the surviving character gets his skill feat. The dead character is marked with a skull and doesn't get that reward. But on the character sheet on the Completion tab the scenario is marked as completed. And yes, I tried it again and completed Foul Misgivings with the same two characters alive at the end, and I still didn't get the skill feat. Conclusion: Until that bug is fixed I'd strongly recommend forfeiting if one of your characters dies, otherwise he will be permanently lower in stats.
  19. Having played both, I would respectfully disagree. There are more possible weird card interactions in Magic the Gathering than in Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. Having said that, my iPad version of Magic Duels was so bugged that I couldn't connect to any server for two months last year. So in comparison Pathfinder Adventures is doing better. Did the beta version have the quest mode or only the story mode? The quest mode isn't working for me at all, but apparently its getting patched in the next update.
  20. Okay, so it's a bug. I get the same screen, but no cards in the lower row.
  21. I'm not quite sure if this is a bug or a feature: What is the big button in the lower right corner of the world map showing a dropping Pathfinder card supposed to do? For me it just opens the list of cards for my characters in the party, whether they are new or experienced, but doesn't allow me to do any sort of selection. The lower row is empty and even pressing View All doesn't show any cards there. Is this a bug? Should I be able to select at least the starting cards for a new team with that button? Or is it really just for viewing?
  22. This is just an open questions, looking for various opinions and advice on how many characters to put into your party. I've been playing mostly with a party of 2 characters. I was under the impression that while adding more characters increases the versatility of the group, the added locations make it very hard to actually finish the scenario in time. Even with 2 characters I once finished only on my last blessing. What is your experience with larger groups? How many characters do you usually use?
  23. The main problem with Merisiel in my opinion is that she starts with only 2 weapons and then has to rely on evade or backstab to deal with monsters. However I had a lot of problems getting past the Poisoner scenario without Merisiel, as her disable is great against those 3 poison traps. So I played a 2-character team of Ezrel and Merisiel up to the end of Burnt Offerings and got her a third weapon and the proficiency with weapons. That makes her a much stronger all-round character, and you can then use her to carry other characters through the Poisoner scenario.
  24. As I had encountered a number of bugs that were bugging me, I decided to try and delete, then reinstall Pathfinder Adventures on my iPad to see whether the bugs I encountered were due to a corrupted installation. I thought I'd share the result, because other people might be interested to learn what happens if you reinstall the game, e.g. if you buy a new iPad and need to transfer your applications: The Good: After reinstallation the Rise of the Runelords Bundle that I had bought appeared as soon as I entered the store, I didn't even need to use the Restore button. I still own all the adventures and characters. Likewise my gold was automatically restored on reinstallation. All the cards I had bought via treasure chests are still there in the Gallery/Vault. The Bad: All character progress in both story and quest mode is gone. All progress on the world map in story mode is gone. TLDR version: If you reinstall or switch to a new iPad, you'll keep the things you bought, but lose the progress you played for.
  25. Why is it called the "Gallery" if you access it from the main screen, but the same thing is called the "Vault" when you access it from the options screen in game?
