My point exactly. Yeah, I really can't stand it when he just dismisses points addressed against his concern, complete with data backing it up, simply because he chooses to believe something else. I wish he'd at least support his position or at least have something more than his "logic" for why the data is false. Because he believes the world works differently is hardly enough to satisfy me in a discussion.

This reminds me of some of the people I know that attack religion (easy enough target) and say that their ideas of cosmology are stupid and how the Big Bang Theory is the obvious explanation, yet they don't understand the Big Bang Theory themselves and certainly don't understand that it was initially criticized because it seemed to indicate some sort of divine intervention. A friend of mine can be notorious for bashing religion and how they just blindly accept religious explanations for events, yet he has no problems blinding accepting and preferring explanations that go in line with his beliefs. He's especially confident that his logic and reasoning are sufficient enough to explain things, so when things go contrary to how he thinks they will be he gets dismissive, even in the face of empirical facts that go counter to his claim.

Games for Windows & Achievements
alanschu replied to vril's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Hmmm is this actually possible? I was unaware of Games for Windows Live (or XBOX Live) actually having access to content in the game without explicit permission being given by the user? I'm 99% sure that this would violate XBOX Certification for a console game, and I'd be surprised if it was allowed in a PC game. Pirates do indeed complain about stuff. Sometimes they are even stupid about it and complain directly to the developer (see Batman Arkham Asylum where someone was asking for tech support for the PC version of the game, before the PC version of the game even came out...and no, it couldn't have been the demo because it was on a different level, and to make matters better the symptom he was suffering from was a result of the DRM being circumvented). Other times they'll complain to the company that sold them the computer (especially if it's causing weird things to happen with their computer). -
Isn't that what you're supposed to do anyway! The problem with games like Rainbow Six to me is usually that I find they're mostly just games of "attempt it, learn where guys are by dying to them, and then use that metagame knowledge to complete the level on another attempt." Hard as **** no doubt haha.

Thanks Fionavar. I am okay. As is the other person. Got the estimate today: $2500. Ouch. I have a $500 deductible which isn't too bad, but is also something I'd really rather not pay at the moment. Hopefully the other side admits fault or things get less rosy Your link shows that things are still debated. I am very skeptical of the influences of global warming (if only from a "it's not what everyone else thinks" type approach), but I also don't discount the entire idea behind man-influenced global warming because I can find articles that support my belief. The reason why it goes on is because neither side can prove the other perspective is false (which is what science is all about).

Maybe he's just happy to see her? We're all thinking it

Alpha Protocol has been delayed.

OIC, now you're trying to guilt a non-preorderer type like myself to preorder >.> -
Well, I didn't really think that Master of Orion 3 really differed that much from its roots. It tried different things but it was still clearly a 4X Space game. But other games that weren't very similar to their predecessors that I really enjoyed were stuff like: Duke 3D (shift to first person) SWAT 3 (heh...big differences from 1-3) Quake 2 (technically had nothing to do with Quake one near as I can tell) Some are a bit weaker. Ultima VII shifted to a real-time combat system and some different mechanics compared to VI. Mind you, the entire Ultima franchise changed a lot over the course of its series. All the Final Fantasy games are pretty independent of each other story wise, though gameplay wise they are definitely similar.

If you are getting twice the read/write performance with the 7200 I'd be pretty surprised. But hey, more power to you.

I was trying to figure that out too. Siple doesn't seem right, but maybe it has to do with this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siple_Island

What about those that are obviously blind to the obvious positive aspects of a game? And the great points in Oblivion are? Ok, seriously, I thought a few quests were well done but otherwise it was a bad game. My point extends beyond Oblivion though.

That's my bet.

The little chart I saw didn't seem to indicate that the difference was quite that significant. Hard to make out though. (found here http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/finalfanta...6&mode=news ) I suspect a lot of that simply has to do with the presence on the XBOX. While there was a PS2 version of the original, I think it was a lower profile port (from an anecdotal point of view). Any idea what the breakdown was of sales for IW?

dont get me wrong, im not saying it would have helped sales, im just saying that less people would hate beth right now if the name was not fallout3. as for myself, my hate of beth went out the window once they gave obsidian a shot at making the next game. also, i actually liked fallout 3. even though its not a real sequel to fallout 2 I like Fallout 3 and have no problems considering Fallout 3 to be the sequel to the game. Though I enjoyed Fallout 1 and 2 more, there is clearly not going to be anything resembling those games any time soon. It's not like I was hoodwinked into what I was thinking Fallout 3 was going to be. It was pretty obvious from the get go. People place too much significance in the name, and the fact that Fallout 3 is the sequel to the Fallout games does nothing to tarnish the experiences that are the first two Fallout games. I'd probably be a bit more shocked if Fallout 3 had come out significantly sooner than 10 years after Fallout 2. But at the same time, I wasn't making a big deal when SWAT 2 did not resemble the first SWAT, or that SWAT 3 was completely different than SWAT 2.

I have already determined I'll be buying the game. A demo is not really necessary for me, but I'll definitely play it (and probably a lot) if one comes out.

Just calling it how it is. I know that games like it and XCOM are typically referred to as "tactical" games but I often don't find a whole lot of tactics actually being required. I consider them tactical in the sense that they are small scale/low level battles. The 1.13 HAM mods are great for adding suppression and whatnot, but at the same time, they also tweaked sniping and made it exceptionally powerful. The problem, as with pretty much all games, is that the AI isn't up to the task to prevent gamey solutions.

USS New York Makes Maiden Voyage From New Orleans to New York City
alanschu replied to Guard Dog's topic in Way Off-Topic
I briefly read it but it seems like that's an amphibious landing ship, so it'll hold soldiers (Marines I assume) to quickly deploy and kickass. And perhaps chew bubble gum too. -
