This is still sort of similar to my expectation. The Deus Ex example had me a bit reminscing of some of the very wide open gameplay options.

Well, just as a comment, the impression of non-linearity I get from the game was more macrolevel than microlevel. That is, changes in the narrative based on your dialogue. I sort of had the impression that the "combat" areas would be "somewhat" linear, with some variation on how to deal with the hostiles you deal with (sneak past, punch 'em, or pewpewpew). So I guess our initial expectations are a bit different

You can bring in help for that fight though. As for overwhelm, I don't think it's technically a "knockdown."

Yeah Force Field is a very, very useful ability. There's a combo involving it too

That fight is also a special encounter. What happens when you lose it? Let me know if the problem persists a reload.

It's very useful for leading to shatters that come from spells like Stonefist and critical hits.

That's why I liked the elves haha. They had bows. Mages were terrifying to play with!

I put my strength to 25 (27 with buffs) to get Tier 6 swords, which really helped.
