I think this was the article intended by the link: https://support.obsidian.net/article/30-mac-game-crashes-before-character-generation The article says that they believe the problem is associated with the Intel Iris Pro/HD 5000 chipsets and that they are working very hard on a fix, but no specific timeline. Better/clearer communication on this issue would be appreciated. Most of the people on this thread do have either Iris or HD 5000, but there are several 15” MBP and 27” iMacs, neither of which use the Iris chipset. Soooooooo...? Maybe? I dunno.

This feels like a little more than a bug to me. I mean duh yes it is a big, but if you find out before your game launches that there’s a bug that renders it literally unplayable for a large segment of players, you should maybe delay the release for those players. This is a major issue. It’s not just annoying; it makes me feel like I wasted $75.
-
That’s part of what makes this so frustrating. They BEEN knew! I feel like Mac users are being used as beta testers rn so they can see how wide the problem is and what commonalities it has. I’m really mad bc the pre-order of this game took a big chunk out of my budget, but I wanted to play ASAP. Now it looks like I could’ve saved my damn money for a while.

Known Major Issues
copperleaves replied to SChin's question in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I totally get that bugs happen and release day yadda yadda, but y’all have known about the OSX but for a WHILE and haven’t fixed it. So those of us who pre-ordered and are now just twiddling are thumbs just...need to be patient? No sort of compensation or “we’ll make it up to you” for having a $75 game sitting on my computer that I can’t play? -
Someone else on this thread said they're running a 2015 iMac, and I saw a couple MacBook Airs in here too. It doesn't seem to be an OS problem bc of how many different versions are in the thread, but MacBook does seem to be pretty common...but not 100%. So basically it's a newer (post 2013, seems like??) Mac issue that's affecting a lot of us, and it sucks really really bad.

I'm having the same problem! Glad to know y'all are aware of it, but WOW I honestly can't believe the game wasn't delayed a bit on Mac to work this out. High Sierra 10.13.4 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, late 2013 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 Intel Iris 1536 MB Running the game through Steam. I already tried the "verify install files" thing, and since people are saying uninstalling the game doesn't help, i haven't tried that yet. I also haven't adjusted my graphics settings for the same reason.

Running ie mod on mac osx
copperleaves replied to copperleaves's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Modding (Spoiler Warning!)
Hmmmm that would require Windows. I can install the Windows VERSION of PoE, tho, using a Steam wrapper thru Wine and then downloading the PC version. That might work. -
Hi, guys. I have a problem. I've spent the last 2 days trying to figure out how to get ie mod to run on my mac. I've got it installed according to the directions. I even got patchworklauncher.exe to open using mono. The problem comes after that. Once PatchworkLauncher opens, it asks to be directed to the PoE file. Sure, np. I type in the location and....whoops. It's looking for PillarsofEternity.exe. Which I don't have. Because I have a mac. I've googled and searched and read all over the place and I cannot find detailed instructions on how to get this mod (or well any mod) to work on Mac. If someone could PLEASE help me figure it out, I would be grateful. I feel like I'm just missing something really obvious and simple, but I can't get it. :/ Also, um. If you could keep your answers like...not kindergarten simple, but maybe middle school simple? I know my way around my computer and I'm pretty smart, but I'm not an expert by any means, and a bunch of super complicated technical jargon will make my eyes glaze over. Thanks!

Ready the cannons(spoiler)
copperleaves replied to cavemandiary's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The cog is located in a pile of junk when you first enter the slime room through the crack in the wall. I know you posted this a few days ago, but I figured I'd reply anyway since no one gave a definite answer. -
I can't stand Durance, and I dump him as soon as I can reliably afford to build my own priest. He's misogynistic and gross, and the time I have to have him in my party is practically unbearable to me. I love Eder and Hiravias. They're mainstays of my party. I miss Kana when he's not around just because he's so cheerful and funny. I also like Sagani a lot. I have trouble keeping Zahua and Maneha alive, too. I've never played a barb before, but I've had 2 monk mains and never had such problems as I have with him. Anyway, this playthrough my main is a cipher and I created a paly hireling that I like a lot better than Pallegina, skill-wise, but I love Pallegina's character. Honestly it's always a big dilemma for me because I really do like the companions' personalities (besides Durance) and banter. It's kinda boring with all hirelings imo, but like someone said, if you're just looking to grind through the game and don't like the pre-built companions, go nuts!!
-
I mean honestly since you don't like the "banter" and you don't like their stats, I'd say...nothing? It's about the same in WM1 and 2 as in early game, so, I mean. *shrug* You just get a group of silent mercs following you around everywhere you go. Your own personal kill squad. ETA: No, you can't change the companions' stats atm. IE mod let you do it, but it doesn't work on 3.0+ and the dev is mia.

I need to try it out with a monk, but one of my problems with it is so many enemies in WM are immune to crush. I mean obviously I can switch it out and whatnot, but that sorta defeats the purpose of a fancy soulbound weapon imo. My first WM playthrough I gave it to Aloth, but then switched it to Hiravias. I kind of sort of like it for him, but eh. I haven't tried it on Zahua (for some reason I don't play him much?? don't know why) or when I had a monk pc. But yeah another soulbound quarter staff type situation would be nice.

OK so I just restarted playing after several months and I remember back then I found it next to impossible to solo the bear cave on PoTD difficulty when I came across it right at the beginning........has anything changed since then? Because I remember I asked for advice on how to solo that cave (because at that point in the game you are by yourself) and pretty much everyone told me leave it for later, gain a couple of levels and get a party member or two and then come back and clear it....... I was only able to solo the bear once, on normal difficulty, with a rogue. She did so much damage the bear didn't have time to get hits in. Since then, with a Pali on hard? No go. I'm about to restart the game on PoTD and uh I don't even know if I'll try it.

Stormcaller on a Ranger is killer. That's one of my favorite combos in game atm. The Greenstone Staff...I don't even bother to get it anymore bc it seems really useless. I like to use in-game companions rather than make my own, and Aloth's might is too low for it to do any good, and I prefer using ranged for Hiravias. I haven't seen the dagger yet. I keep hearing about it and I want it!! I do like the scepter I got with the first part of the Battle of Yenwood quest. I got it that early in the game and Hiravias still uses it. I've got the breastplate on my main, but I haven't had it on long enough to tell much. I had the shield on Eder (disappointed a Pali couldn't take it), but now he's using the Hammer of Abydon, so it's sorta sidelined for now. I just got the Hammer, so I haven't really tested it out at all. tl;dr: I like most of the soulbound weapons, but the Greenstone Staff is pointless
