KJA created crazy and inconsistent book in the spirit of the OT - I don't see much difference between suncrusher and big ball that destroyed alderaan. It's all about fun and I like KJA's style. But I can't stand lame xwing full of technical blurb or pompous style of Zahn that kills all atmosphere of a fairy tale that Star Wars is. There's no magic and legend in Zahn books, while in KJA is. Reading Thrawn Trilogy was a constant pain to me.
