Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Discussion
Xard replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
meh, boring What I ment with this I don't see anything cool with the goddamn heroic bravado and sad violin arrangements that are so prevalent in film and game world. They're so calculated and predictable it is depressing. (I'M LOOKING AT YOU JEREMY SOULE!) If EPIC GRAWWR is wanted I'd go and license Verdi's Dies Irae or something. 100xbetter than thousands of its movie world imitators with stupid chants etc. More MotB and PS:T approach, maybe something Morriconesque. K2 soundtrack was also great, Jedi Enclave theme was first time in a long while when brass hornz + violin actually sounded very heartfelt and deeply sad. You must include TonyK's AI -
John Lennon - Crippled Inside You can go to church and sing a hymn You can judge me by the color of my skin You can live a lie until you die One thing you can't hide Is when you're crippled inside

Well, let's see... Combat system? SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS Animations were so nice though I could stand it. Force powers Tied to combat system. Powers themselves are nice but apart from Dominate Mind strictly combat related in nature and as that system was abhorrent, dumbed down D20... Animations were - with these too - great Still minus points to gameplay the star wars species lolwut? They're there for the sake of setting and they were mainly the typical rodians etc. Nothing special the enemies combat system sucks and encounter design was plain boring Nothing good to say about this the weapons Ehh lightsabers are always cool But as combat system sucked and weapons are horribly inbalanced yet more minus points exploring WHAT exploring? When I think of exploring in roleplaying games I think off games like Baldur's Gates 1 & 2 or Fallouts. There is no real "exploring" in Kotors. ------------------------------------------------- Then Good Things: 4. I accidentally voted backstory as 3rd best aspect but that was ment to be 4th It was great and division between it and "main story" seems bit arbitary 3. making choices it's all about roleplaying baby! Kotors aren't exactly The Games to look for if searching for great C&C - such would be Fallouts, Planescape Torment, Arcanum and MotB to name few - but Kotor 2 did nicely. 2. The Main Story It's no Planescape Torment or Mask of the Betrayer for sure, but it was definetly good. Though most of it was just backstory tbh 1. The Characters What Kotor 2 did Really ****ing Well was characters with big C. If you discount Planescape Torment's cast (also from pen of Mr Avellone) and some MotB and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines characters no other game has had quite as great cast of characters. Kreia herself is of course the queen, but complex characters such as Handmaiden or Visas Marr or Atton are awesome on their own right. Only game with stronger cast of characters is PS:T with Ravel, Dak'kon, Annah, Nodrom, Morte and of course The Nameless One and his various incarnations (of course there are some others as well) thriumphing over any other game... Though I have to say Kreia is even better than any single character in PS:T's cast! Story's and gameplay's shortcomings are forgiven for the awesome writing and roleplaying. And that is something I can't say about K1.

It's just mad. When Floyd got into their crazy jam phase in those days they were absolutely unbeatable in that front

You weren't the only one. BF1942 is my best blind buy ever, what a fantastic games it was and Vietnam too BF2 was just... MEH Largerly that was due to ridiculously bad hitboxes which made combat clunky and "feel" of guns pitiful. And maps were simply weaker edit: to elaborate just watch video
-
Wait, when did BF2 go Xbox? :ermmm: Anyway, BF2 has worst hit boxes ever. EVER

Besides, Georgia even isn't part of NATO yet As for Finland, we're safe. We have very good relationships with russkies and we're valuable trade partner (even when keeping in mind our size) and - due to our experience - we also often act as bridge in communication between Russians and EU. And Norway has no problem whatsoever. Swedes...well, you know, like always, we get the beating while they sip their coffees in safe if there is military conflict Baltic however...

The Sound / The Voices / The Music
Xard replied to Pop's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I'd say BG2's soundtrack isn't all that enjoyable alone - common "problem" of soundtracks. And that LotR example is just rather typical (and somewhat cheap) example of how music is used in film to crudely manipulate our feelings, rather than it has narrative importance and seamless place in context of scene structure.* In fact only WRPG soundtrack that really stands alone is that of Planescape Torment for me. I listened the tracks a lot before even getting the game. And while I agree on NWN2 I disagree on MotB; that soundtrack did exactly same thing BG2's did while being more original and "out there". *this is not to say music isn't powerful and large part of emotional impact of the scene. What I'm saying is that it isn't case of using music in really meaningful way which is still rather rare -
Just to emphatise Gazprom's importance: Suffice to say Gazprom is single greatest ace in Russian sleeve. It is way more formidable weapon than the rather sad state of their army (which as been changing too in late years however...) It is also worth mentioning that only superpower in the world that likes to make fiery speeches and remindings about their nuclear weapons is Russia. America, China and others don't make noise. This is because nuclear weapons are still seen (and to some extent are) in Russia as evidence for their importance. Plus it is always good when "boohohoo, fear us" is considered
-
Ahh, were you live? Here in Nordic Europe Russia does that quite often, especially when it comes to Estonia and other baltic countries. Not to mention the uses of energy weapon against whoever they want, the return to patrolling the Nordic Seas, bickering and threatening their former USSR "vassals"... Here in Finland in last years there happens about 3 times a year air border trespassings by Russian war planes by "accident". It's not like they're anything terribly alarming, but this is one of the many ways russkies has been telling us in late years that they're coming back hard as formidable world might
-
It is case of superpower's honor and China's own nationalistic needs. China will not allow ANYTHING to tamper with these Olympics. That's why they're in such heavy wrought "nazi policy" mode now. They don't take any risks, no matter how small they are

There's one great book I'd recommend to you, but unfortunately it is not avalaible in english as far as I know It was eye opener for me

No declaration of war has happened, but practically place is already war zone And I believe this thing gets diplomatic ending BUT it is still war going on, no matter how small. This has been first time since Afghanistan since our eastern neighbours have switched on offensive using military edit: in fact it is not small at all. It is first non-civil war in area of Europe since Second World War
