  1. I feel that it helps if the DM knows the rules as well, if not better than everyone in the room. With a simple rules system, that isn't a problem. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And AD&D is not simple? AD&D has always been simple to me. Simpler than 3E anyhow.
  2. Who is Elena? :">
  3. Ahhh.. that explains it. The last one I played was Super Street Fighter II with "The New Challengers" which included the Bruce Lee clone Fei Long, Cammy , and a couple others..
  4. So he just kicked you out of the group just because you were too smart for you own good? LOL
  5. I might be getting confused but Fei Long (the super street fighter II character) is a virtual clone of Bruce Lee down to appearance, fighting style and antics... More so even than MK's Liu Kang.
  6. Haha So can Fei Long.
  7. I am not so sure Chun Li is a flyweight.. The woman's got some pretty thick mad legs :D. But yeah, I could beat Honda with petite little Cammy.
  8. I hear that Gamma World d20 sucks. What version did you play? And is it similar to the Fallout world or is it quite different?
  9. I would need to write more than 1 or 2 for 3E.. believe me. And I never said that you shouldn't have to create a house rule to fix a problem.. IIRC, that was Eldar who said something similar... About not having to feel "compelled" about making house rules. At any rate--- I did say, however, that I am not a rules purist and if there is a rule you don't like then it is not out of your power to address it via house rules. I advocate the use of house rules totally. It would be a perfect world if all systems were made so that you wouldn't need to make house rules but alas that is truly fantasy. That would be correct. I sure as heck wouldn't want to start all over again. No.. But I like my 2ndEd + house rule system+ PO combo (however unstreamlined it is) better than 3E. Yes.. And it is not even a "modern" system. I used to play Star Wars D6 waaaay back in high school. That was lots of fun though I don't remember too much about the mechanics anymore. Come on Enderwiggin.. You know deep down inside you still *love* 2ndEd..Give in to your hatred.. Come to the dark side it is the only way!
  10. With that definition, every ruleset I have ever used then is a "bad" ruleset. I have yet to come across a system without "significant" problems that did not require major re-writing of rules... And this includes the modern systems as well. Maybe I am just picky, I dunno. You don't have to accept mediocrity. That is what house rules are for.
  11. This is very true. There is no inherently "superior" system. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder only (no pun intended). There is no superior system as much as there is no superior form of food, or dress, or campaign setting.. HAHA!!It definitely does feel like it as well as tautological. Following this, I say either find a system that most fits what you are looking for or just design your own. But all this, "the system is superior because it doesn't have what *I* like" stuff really is subjective and varies from person to person. One can discuss what they like or don't like about a particular system but to say that it is "superior"or "inferior" implies an absolute that just doesn't exist. Take me for example.. I certainly don't think that AD&D is "inferior".. But then again, I am a weirdo. :D
  12. If I were to design my own "superior" (using Ender's choice of words) PnP system, it would have the character creation system of GURPS with the combat mechanics of SLA Industries. Unfortunately, that would be dreaming.
  13. I know we are talking nearly 30 years ago but what do you all know about Twilight 2000? Is it a good post-apocalyptic setting? Is it Fallout-esque in style at all? I am pretty sure that one is likely hard to locate as well.
  14. The point is that it doesn't need to be. In fact, a good GM can make such a disadvantage nearly unnoticeable.
  15. This was my favorite aspect of GURPS
  16. *Sigh*...I maintain that class-based and skill-based systems *both* rule. I know this is so cliche but it's true... It's not what you got but how you use it. I realize what I just said can be taken the wrong way.
  17. Gamma World does look somewhat interesting though I certainly wouldn't want to run it under d20. There is no way to get one of the earlier editions of it aside from ebay is there?
  18. Warriors of the Eternal Sun was arguably better than the Gold Box games, yes. As good as Warriors of the Eternal Sun was, Order of the Griffon (a similarly styled game) was so much better still.
  19. Video games: The 3D dungeons of Order of the Griffon were and *still* are breathtaking PnP: Artwork in PnP products tends to be dull IMHO. Some of the artwork is ok but overall I have seen nothing that "wows" me. Closest would maybe be the AD&D Mystara or some of the 3E art? That said I prefer the artwork of fantasy artists like Boris Vallejo. EDIT: There is something eerie cool about the box cover art for the Ravenloft boxed set of Strahd with grief holding a dead Tatyana.
  20. In terms of good console TBS RPGs: Buck Rogers(Genesis) Warriors of the Eternal Sun(Genesis) Shining Force series(Genesis) Order of the Griffon(TG16 and the best one on this list) For the PC: The Gold Box games of course
  21. Production values are going to be better for one thing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bethesda is also more established and has a wee bit better rep than Silver Style...At least in the US.
  22. Good old school turn-based strategy games: Stronghold (PC game set in Mystara) Warsong (Genesis) You can find the above titles through careful searching of the web There are also a lot of good turn-based strategy RPGS on the Genesis if you are interested. SNES was sadly lacking in these.
  23. I'd keep my hopes up. Too early too say, but I'd be willing to bet that FO3 will be better than The Fall. Todd Howard did say it was going to employ SPECIAL. And at least FO3 will have futuristic weapons "
  24. I'll pass. Looks like I'll just wait for FO3.
