Ardra Dragon - Caed Nua
Vorad replied to Berkyjay's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Dead dragon... profit! This was my wizard fully buffed just before I cast gaze. The party was full lvl 14 but the same exact tactic works since level 10 instead of gaze you can just leave the dragon prone and cast Citzal's Spirit lance and kill it that way 20-30 seconds of prone are more than enough. The difficulty was PotD. I hope this mini guide will help clarify things a bit. Good luck and have fun! -

2d Part, the action! Now that your minions and tanks are into place start debuffing the dragon. Prone, Weaken, Blindness, Hobble, Miasma etc etc everything counts and both Druid, Wizards and Priest got debuffs. Now that he's Prone thanks to slumber from wizard you can start casting Gaze of Adragan on the Dragon. Check it's saving throws how low they are? with ~80 fortitude the gaze will most surely land(wizard thanks to buffs got 100+ accuracy now) After Petrify start nuking with all the big damage nukes each class got! -

Here is your party at the entrance of the lair. Initiate with your strongest deffender in my case it's a Darcozzi Paladin full defensive with accuracy buff + aura Combar initiated, your party will start buffing while your paladin will move to the corner close to the stairs to lure the dragon there. After you have finished buffing your party and summoning some minions start moving closer to your target make sure to be within the paladin's accuracy aura. Buffs used here were Crown + Shields from priest, Alacrity speed + accuracy buff from wizards while Druid and Chanter summon some minions. -

You don't have enough cc in your party. Go there at level 14 if you can't kill it at level 10. Get 2 wizards 1 paladin with acuracy aura 1 second tank to keep things simple either paladin or fighter and the remaining can be priest(Shields for the Faithful and Crowns for the Faithful will help) and cypher(Good single target damae + cc). Pull the dragon with one of your tanks while the rest of your party is being buffed then jump in with the buffed party. Your wizards should max their accuracy from priest/paladin and use slicken/slumber yes those are better than gaze since it's easier for them to land. Proceed with weakening and other debufs from wizards and cypher and only then use gaze + direct damage spells like Minoletas Piercing...(aoe Piercing damage with -10 dr, can crit for 100+ on a fully healthy non-debuffed target). Your cypher can paralyze then proceed with damage on dragon as well. First things first if you think the encounter is hard go there again when you are max level, secondly I don't know your party composition but if you don't have enough cc and nuke you need to change party members. Do you run the crappy premade npc or do you run your own customized characters? Is the difficulty easy or potd all these play role. Generally speaking with a self made full group with optimized stats at max level this fight is not as hard as you might think even at potd dificulty. Control everything with slicken/slumber then proceed to debuffs like weaken, miasma, - DR, then cast your gaze of adragan and then Nuke with lategame spells, with 3-4 spellcasters and 2 tanks you'll do fine. -
As mentioned already Darcozzi and Shieldbearers are the most obvious candidates for defensive/support Paladin. I myself tend to lean towards Darcozzi because cc wins every single fight and with a double boost from Liberating Exhortations you can make sure your spellcaster will wreck havoc, while a +10 deflection will profit mostly a melee focuse party/front liners generally, yes you will shrug off some of the damage but that's it. A well landed cc on the other hand will turn the entire fight in your favor hence Darcozzi is the winner for me. As for healing it's always better to avoid damage to begin with(AOE cc everyone) rather than suffer it and then try to heal back, in any case the Paladin irregardless of order has some really nice single target and aoe heals potential. The only case where I would pick a Shieldbearer would be for a full melee party. The rest of the orders don't really seem to have abilities that could cause an impact in the lategame.

Dear readers, trolls, flamers, unprivileged, broken souls or just bored, be it European, Asian, African or... Aliens it doesn't matter where you came from, what race you are, what football team you support, what you like to eat and so on and so forth. Bullying is bullying irregardless of who you are and what's your social status. A quick reference to the wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullying can give you a really short overview on the meaning of bullying. For a more in depth analysis I'm quite sure there are serious scientists who must have written some serious books about it. Therefore irregardless of what you might think the world owes you two things are certain, the universe is huge and doesn't evolve around you and secondly imposing your own whims on others is the real foundation of oppression. Nazis, Bolsheviks, Jihadists, the good old Inquisition and their "neo-" versions of all colors and genders many things they have in common some of them are censorship and propaganda. Calling everyone who disagreed with them as degenerated, perverted and unnatural, censoring and burning artwork and... last but not least burning people literally alive just because they had a different view of the world they happen to live in. Nowadays that we have such a "wonderful" understanding of the historical rights and wrongs add in there the anonymity the internet provides and what you get is massive "movements" through the internet of these "gentle" souls flaming and cursing on everything and everyone that doesn't fit their cosmos-theory. Some people suffer more some less that's how life is and it's unfair. There are people who eat five meals a day in order to go to the gym regularly while there are still people(kids) on this planet that die from famine even now that I am writing this. The question here is not who suffers or suffered the most. It's not about who abused, enslaved, tortured, murdered whom etc(Historically speaking the Golden Horde of Genghis Khan has it's fare share to blame). The actual question is what does someone do with his life to begin with. Complaining constantly about what others have done to you and seeking direct or indirect ways for revenge(making halfwit "smart-ass" comments to begin with) so that you might feel better about yourself(through sarcastic, bitter, crap-talk etc.) will not solve your problems on the contrary it will fuel them even further. Judging by many of the "witty" some might say "smart-ass" comments made so far, one could reach to a conclusion about certain individuals however that would be beyond the point of the main thread to begin with. If you have been mistreated or feel mistreated somehow don't blame it solely upon the others, there is no need to victimize yourself even further. Some people do practice that tactic in order to earn in a sick and disgusting way the sympathy of the public opinion(being the underdog sells). That tells much about who they truly are however and by all means do so if you so desire. There is this thing called personal character and individuality and it plays a very significant role both in game and in real life(shocking I know), on who is to blame on your misfortune apart from the assailant, the tyrant the bad guy. You'll be amazed how much better your life would feel if you actually do things to help yourself and others in a constructive way feeling better about who they truly are. And what's better help than studying and educating yourself. I mean proper study, from books written by acknowledged personalities who influenced human civilization positively through our history since the very first ancient philosophers to modern day thinkers. This I reckon would be much preferable to just complaining(bitching) about how much "retarded" the other guy who disagrees with your myopic point of view is. I would like to quote two truly bright minds, who in their life time have had their own fare amount of deprived privileges(like many other bright people before them): Friedrich Nietzsche - He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you. Albert Einstein - Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe! Poor Firedorn if only he knew what an inspiration his death would be to future generations. Truly he has fallen a "Martyr" in the fight against oppression and tyranny. PS: Dear Obsidian, the game and what you have done so far in order to breathe new life to an almost deceased genre is astonishing. You guys and girls(I hope) have accomplished much and the final product is a successful title worthy of it's predecessors Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale etc... Please if you truly however respect your backers, your fan-base but above all else yourselves... do not fall prey to the whims of anti-social, misanthropic, cyber-bullying groups be it Neo-Nazis, Religious Fundamentalists, Hypocritical Puritans, Spoiled and Privileged(these must be definitely white people), Simply Bored or even those really "cute" and "witty" Feminazis(Einstein would envy their IQ and Shakespeare would envy their vocabulary while Mother Teressa would most surely envy their humanitarian activities).
-
Obsidian got scared by The Feminazzis and backed off. A true shame indeed allowing cyber-bulling to evolve into a whole new level. If you want to take a look at pure sexist and misanthropic attitude take a look on Twitter(what a pearl of antisocial networking) in crap like #killallmen that will give you a better idea about who these "people" are and what are their beliefs. Taking seriously the Feminazzis and backing off to their whims is the real shame of this story. Regarding the cultural difference on language and gender pronouns the discussion is completely irrelevant. In all Indo-European languages there are gender pronouns that's history, that's tradition that our culture that's language, people should be proud of their traditions without imposing them on others. We communicate just as fine among us, thanks for the concern!

You could view it from a different perspective. Positive vs Negative traits of your character. Even in real life some people do shine in some aspects of their personality while they might suffer in some other aspect while others are more "well rounded" but not necessarily shining on anything special. Someone with 3 resolve in game doesn't necessarily mean he's suicidal it just means that resolve is his weak attribute while intellect for example his strong attribute. As for might they say in the description it's not only physical but spiritual strength so you could have a mage with 18-20 might nothing wrong with that, remember your characters represent some kind of "hero" in game they are not your everyday average "Joe" that's the difference between a "hero" and a "commoner".

Wait, it does? Are you positive? I tested it now with almost every direct damage spell it's not working, the only case where it works is with Kalakoth's because of weapon(spell) and of course it works only for the main target and it does not apply on the aoe. So I think we can officially call this myth busted or a really really cheap trolling attempt from that guy unless he cares to give us further detail on which are these exact spells supposedly being affected by a pure weapons talent. As for blast stacking with blights and procing off from every target withing blight's aoe I second that, yes it does proc multiple times, it's ok midgame and it's almost useless lategame as Teioh pointed out.

Gaun's share special ability missing
Vorad replied to Vorad's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Aha that's really good to know, yes now that I checked the file was missing. Thank you for the help! -
Hello, I am running 2.02 now and I started a new play-through, when I equipped Gaun's Share in the beginning it had the "endurance drain" ability. After I quit and reloaded game the ability was lost. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjyfyyc208v0q7q/9dc69249-6e47-49c0-b04a-1a3749adafd7%20autosave_1.savegame?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/8h8nwx30p3hznq7/Screenshot%202015-10-04%2011.39.46.png?dl=0

I don't think Blast interferes negatively with Kalakoth's, I just tested at an inn and while Kalakoth's aoe hits 7 targets blast hits a total of 29 on top of that. I think not only Blast doesn't negate Kalakoth's but it seems that Blast can proc from itself on secondary targets and so on. Theoretically I should just be hitting the 1 + 6 aoe from Blights and the same exact targets from Blast since it's supposed to be AOE arround main target. But it appears it's working as AOE arround any targets hit by blast... not sure if it's working as intended. I have been running my entire party with 3 athletics and 3 stealth works perfectly fine, the rest goes into lore up to 10 and any remaining into survival for longer potion/food duration. The only exception is my mechanic usually a chanter with max mechanic instead of lore. As for the cc role as said above druid or cipher are ok if you also have a priest in there you got enough cc for any fight.

2.02 Patching error?
Vorad replied to wanderon's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I downloaded both 2.02 gog patches straight from the beginning, tried to install the main game's patch first and got an "error" message in the end, I then proceeded to install the expansion's patch and it installed without any error whatsoever also in the bottom left corner when I run the game the patch version is the correct one. I don't know whether it's working as intended or not though. So far I haven't had any crashes or weird textures or anything. PS: For 2.01 I installed both. -
Concelhaut's hammer damage from summoning
Vorad replied to Vorad's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
So I checked this out again and I noticed that "Concelhaut's Doom" when cast by the player deals "normal" damage nothing crazy it can crit for up to 60-70 with debuffed targets! BUT when the same spell is cast from Concelhaut's miniature(lich) then it can hit/crit for insande amounts of damage as I say on main thread. You should check it out. -
Hey all, I was playing around the other day with the mini Concelhaut's summon and I noticed that his hammer does a huge amount of damage. I am wondering whether this is working as intended or not. The first time in fight fully scaled vs Thaos it did 800+ crit + 200+ burn(chanter buff) to him. I must mention I had Thaos fully debuffed with weaken,frighten,-DR, miasma, petrify. I played again and this time I didn't use petrify just the usual prone, weaken and the hammer did 200+ graze and 50+ burn. I am not sure that it's supposed to do this much even if the target is weakened. Yep that's what I was talking about. Potd fully scaled I just cast 1 slumber they all went prone for 24 sec so I had enough time to spam debuffs and the dots from wizard and druid and priest then when thaos was 50% hp I droped a gaze of adragan on top of that... the next second he died 800 crushing damage + 250 burning damage(chanter buff) from Concellhaut's hammer. Similar outcome with Adra, White dragon, etc... then again perhaps it's our fault maybe running a less optimized party might be more interesting because right now with spellcaster and accuracy buff by act 2 and onward the challenge drops dramatically. PS: On a more serious note that Concelhaut's hammer seem to do a lot of damage I tried it again and this time without petrification is did 200+ graze + 50 burn(chanter) I think I'm reporting this.

Well for Reflex saves it is. Granted when you get Weapon and Shield style + Faith and Conviction it helps. If you dump dex and per or one or the other it will be your weakest defense for sure. Not saying its game changing but you will probably get CCed a good amount more. Being CCed as a frontliner is definitely bad. Yes but take under account your fortitude and will will be high enough and since it's defensive paladin you can spare 1-2 talents for righteous soul + body control for example. Usually prone is the one affected by reflex paralysis/petrify and the rest usually target fort and mind controlling spells usually attack will so the pallie will be ok most of the time. With shield and the rest reflex will not be that bad either... just average but not terrible.
-
After playing around a lot after this new patch/expansion with pallie I came to the conclusion they're better off as full defensive BUT with high might. If you make a Moon Good-like then you get a really nice boost to both racial aoe heal and your 13th lvl aoe damage ability through might. So I went max intellect, resolve, might, average constitution and I ditched the rest. I opted for measured restraint(rapier with 1 extra engage slot) which has a great accuracy bonus and is fast meaning the low perception and dex are somehow balanced + pallie buckler from guilded vale for a nice buff for my party and the aoe is really nice due to max intellect(goodlike + vailian) and she's doing quite a good at holding the line and when at lvl 13/14 she activates the aoe it's pretty much gg.
-
Or wear a Berathian Priest Robe (the ones you pick up 6 of for disguises) for a 5% recovery penalty, 2DR, and good looks, something that can be done much earlier in the game and will later on save the Durgan steel for other uses. I second this. Also on the stats just aim for max Perception with elf + background and max Intellect. The rest is personal taste really. You need to land your cc, you need to maximize the chance of that cc landing and you need to hit as many as possible in return so max Perception and then max Intellect.
-
Regarding the armor enchant I wouldn't bother with either con, might or dex because you can get items that give you +3 instead of the +2 you get from enchant, in a pallie perhaps intellect would be ok depending on your paladin's role support or not and race(especially if he's good-like you can't get the early +2 intellect headpiece) .
-
Now for my casters I find myself dumping resolve and maxing perception even if I have to sacrifie 3 points of might as well from 18 to 15 might instead. Since druid has some really nice cc and since a caster's main advantage is strong aoe cc/nukes you really want to make sure those spells will land on target so maxing perception for me is the way to go.
