  1. Hi Everyone, A long time ago, I played this game up to the end of Act 1. Since then, I completely forget the mechanics and nuances in the combat and character builds... and to be honest, I wasn't really that knowledgeable in the first place. Now that the patch has come out, I heard that a lot of things have changed - including the main class I picked so long ago. I was a Cipher. I forgotten so much that I was even debating starting over, but I fear if I did that, I may not ever finish the game. Truth is, I'm a 35 career woman who doesn't have too much time on her hands But I love games like this! I do slightly like to lean towards power-gaming, not because I don't want a strong challenge, but because I want to progress a little faster since I don't have too much time on my hands. What are the best articles/guides/documents out there that I can read to quickly get myself up to speed? Maybe I can use a mod to re-roll my Cipher if things got really bad for her. But I fear maybe my party might be in a bad state now. Thanks! Katie
  2. This bug happened to me. Luckily it was early - just an hour into the game, but this is so scary because you won't know it happened until you reload your save, and if all you have is auto/quick saves, you may be SoL. I just make a new save after every new map change now. At worse, if this happens again, I only have to redo an entire area only. But this **** is so scary. I hope Obsidian fixes it soon... same goes with the double-clicking of items to replace them, only to lose your passives and other bonuses - that is scary too.
  3. I made a post about it here: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72946-my-bear-companion-disappeared-argh/
  4. I sure hope my archer can get low penalty armor that has higher DR than normal. Would be a shame if that didn't exist. But I gotta think it has to. They wouldn't make this type of game and not include the same type of gear as BG2 and IWD, right? I am not far into the game though, so I have no idea.
  5. Well, I restarted, and after an hour, got back to where I was. Still, you should look at the save file and fix this bug. I think I just went into the bear cave stealthed and saved. I lost my attack against the bear and reloaded, and then this happened to both the autosave and the quicksave - I had no prior save to go back to.
  6. Killing the bear in the cave and exiting the cave gave, "You must gather your party before venturning forth" error... until I saved it again and reloaded, and the bear was still gone. I went into a camp outside to kill stuff, but none of my abilities even showed up on the UI. I think my saves are just screwed up. I have to restart So sad.
  7. If you can fix my save, that would be awesome.... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/443421/poe/7f0480f4-3469-4542-9bdf-efb15508f6a6%20quicksave.savegame
  8. I may have to start over anyway, because I didn't pick the mechanics bonus, and who knows how long the next level up will be. A shame. I sort of wish I had a plan before playing, but I really didn't know anything about the game before playing, what npcs you would get, what skills to put points into, or any of that.
  9. I only played a few hours with a Ranger, a Bear Companion, etc. and it seemed very strong for the first 3 character levels. Much stronger than my trip with a Paladin. I have no idea what this looks like in the later stages of the game, but it seemed sound to me. I sent my Fighter and Bear in to engage combat, and my main hero was never touched.
  10. Well, I am now tempted to just reroll... again... just to pick a character that can focus on traps and finding items, mostly because you don't seem to get an npc character to help you do this early. I guess i can always hire one, but if I was going to do that, I should have done it before doing a few other quests - they've missed out on XP now. Sigh. It's a bummer that I can't spend the points I have squatted... but it seems like I probably would not be able to disarm the hardest traps or pick the hardest locks and stuff like that anyway. So I guess I am off to do the whole rogue/cipher route. Feels kind of bad though to be pigeon holed like that, unless you pay gold to hire a character.
  11. I am still learning how things work in PoE. I am not too far into the game - just a few hours. I am noticing that I cannot scout items, detect traps, etc. anymore with any of my 3 characters. I know why - nobody specialized in Mechanics. I sort of wanted a Rogue to do it, since I thought it was supposed to be more efficient for a Rogue to do it, but all I have is a Ranger and my 2 NPC's. Now, I didn't put any points at all into my Ranger's skills - but I can't get to the levelup screen to invest those skill points, despite squating them for 2 levelups. I find myself in the underground temple under the first town, not able to do anything Would having picked a Rogue solved this problem? It seems like picking locks could otherwise get expensive with just lockpicks, and I'm that type of player that can't standard not being able to find every item and pick every lock. I'd hate to have to start over though - I do like my bow-using Ranger - she seems powerful, and I like the Ranger more than the Paladin which I already tried. Could my ranger just specialize in Mechanics and would that make sense? How can I get to the levelup screen if I can't see the Plus symbol anymore? Thanks
  12. This is such a silly post. You accuse them of reinventing the wheel when they literally copied 80% of what existed before. In fact, the entire game is a love letter to the wheels designed over a decade ago. And this system IS more forgiving than other D&D games. In BG2, there were actually classes that were horrible. As far as I know in this game, it's not possible to design a truly horrible character.
  13. I don't understand this complaint. It is SOOOOOO obvious what the art director is trying to do with this game, and they fulfilled their vision PERFECTLY. Anyone who criticizes the art design just has a problem with the vision of that art design - but nobody say that the art director didn't achieve their goal, or that the art design is poor - because that's a load of hogwash.
  14. I am not sure what character class I want to play as. I am feeling the trepidation and weight of picking something I may not entirely like or will wonder what I may like better. And I don't want to pick something where an NPC companion might become available early with that class too. I was thinking of going with a Rogue, but then I heard that the group-stealth messes with backstabs and such. I thought it might be cool to have someone disarm traps and pick chests, and since there is no NPC rogue in the game, it seemed like a safe choice. BUT... I'd probably enjoy playing as a spellcaster/diplomatic character - one who is really good in dialog and also uses lots of spells. I don't know if that means being a Druid or a Mage - what makes sense? Maybe some guidance would be appreciated here. Help?
