Naw, man, that's too much effort - washed out jeans and flannel shirt in the morning. You only get wake-up hair if you bother with haircuts, and that's way too corporate for me man. Chicks dig long hair! I get way worse wake-up hair with long hair. It gets so tangled I'm practically waking up with braids. S'why I get it cut nowadays, long hair was a huge hassle.

I don't know about you, but I never stopped dressing like that. /supafly It's too fancy for me. I'm all about the jeans, black T-shirts and wake-up hair.

Journalism and sexism in the games industry

I'd say that it doesn't come out and state it, but it certainly does strongly imply it. The first paragraphs really color it, referring to the interviews (being the subject of the latest "freakout") as "half truths", "flimsy evidence" and "totally misleading". The title itself refers to the content of the interviews as "a conspiracy theory". Sure, they make no absolute statements but they've presented their conclusion already, totally coloring their flimsy takedowns of the interview. I'm not saying they're wrong. Pinsof doesn't seem like a very trustworthy guy to me, and at best just comes off as someone who already had a bone to pick with these people, but that article is drivel that tries to sell the bear's fur before they kill it. -

I like that rebuttal. "Since I'm a real journalist, I asked the people who were said to be corrupt if they were and they said 'nuh uh' so it's not true." -

I was told there was and I believe someone mentioned it here. I wasn't able to watch it live so when I posted it I'd gotten ten minutes in and I still haven't gone through the whole thing, so I could have been wrong. -

Slightly related: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/05/twitter-ceo-admits-we-suck-at-dealing-with-abuse?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Twitter CEO admits they suck at dealing with abuse, claiming they're losing "core user after core user". EDIT: The Co-Optional Podcast featuring TotalBiscuit debating with Jason Schreier. I didn't get around to watching it, but here it is. -

Yeah, I called that several threads ago when it came out that she used to do PR. -
Oh damn. Good luck with that.

Most of it's accurate, though I question a lot of the "Asexual" choices. Shovel Knight and Octodad are both very clearly established to be male, for example. -
Some cool pics you got there, Wold. What was wrong with the location? They do seem a bit overlit, was that it?

Is that why I've been seeing people with dirty hair and Flannel shirts again?

Thingolfin: Which one? Daario has been played by two different actors already. Second one did okay, had more personality than the first who just seemed super smug.

You could always buy her from the internet.

The "Others" (white walkers) being described as wearing Rainbow Armor didn't give me a great impression from the start. Eventually I gave up halfway through book 1. No specific reason, it just didn't grab me and there's no use to keep reading if you're bored. I actually gave up halfway through the first season too, but then people nagged at me enough to keep watching so eventually I gave in and it actually did get a lot better.

Agree with Fighter here. It's always most important to me that they follow the spirit rather than the letter. I used to be bothered by it, but then Watchmen happened and I realized that the parts that actually did follow the comic to the letter were boring as heck - the pacing was completely off. What works in a comic book or a book will usually not work in movie at all.

He's gone a little memetic in the same way Chuck Norris did.

I believe I posted that one a couple of threads ago. Still, good piece. Maddox, as always, overpowers. -
That Jurassic World Super Bowl spot sure is a whole lot better than the first trailer was.

That would be Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia. -
My girlfriend plays WoW and a while ago I bought her a bunch of the lore books since she never played the original games and isn't into RTS. She's finished with them, so I'm reading 'em now. Currently on "Lord of the Clans". Some are good, some are absolutely awful. Lord of the Clans falls somewhere in the middle. Still, feeling all nostalgic and probably going to install WarCraft 3 after this.

I'm hearing Twitter rumblings that Polygon is trying to take on PewDiePie? Quick google search brought nothing but I didn't really know what search terms to use. Either way, are they INSANE? -

Not much to say, it's not even confirmed (AOL is supposedly planning to shut it down but nobody knows when, let alone what the cause is) and Joystiq was never big. Nintendo's new YouTube policy has much more far reaching consequences for games journalism and games media in general and that news kinda overthrew that pile of uncertainty. Speculation regarding that cause, though? Editor in Chief Susan Arendt called Total Biscuit names and all the PC gamers stopped going there. Don't look at me regarding their discussion of the mating plumage of angry women, though. I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole. -

Not really, the most common atheist viewpoint is "science!" which is a very good viewpoint, but generally they don't bring up the whole insects that eat eyeballs thing.- 488 replies

And now for something actually related to corruption in the game industry, anyone hear about Nintendo's new affiliate program for YouTubers? Here's an example of a huge gaming company being the giant tool again for a change, like it used to be in the good old days. Ah, nostalgia. Nintendo was behind on the times by not allowing YouTubers (whether they are Let's Players, Commentary Tracks, Tournaments, or most importantly, Reviews) to get advertising money from their games. They would content ID it because it's their game and they would get all the advertising. Hell, even a piece of fanart coming by in your video could get your video content ID claimed. Nintendo eventually realized YouTube is great advertising and people stopped making videos of their games for this. So now Nintendo has set up an affiliate program. YouTubers can sign up entire channels or single videos for it, and you'll get 70% of the revenue. Actually, you get 70% of what's left over after YouTube takes their 40% cut. So that's more like 35%. That's better than nothing, right? Nintendo finally got with the program. Except, of course, there's gotta be a fine print. Nintendo reserves the right to decline any video they want, no reasons given. If your Nintendo video isn't affiliated with their program, they still content ID claim and take everything. Make a video review bashing their game? "We object to this content, we're going to take all the money". Make a video review praising their game? "Go right ahead, here's your 30 pieces of silver." What an obvious corporate toolbag way to push YouTubers, not just Let's Players but reviewers and critics as well, to give you positive coverage and dissuade them from making negative videos - essentially flooding YouTube with shills and silencing critics. The conflict of interest alone is mind-boggling and I hope no YouTuber will fall for this nonsense. EDIT: Oh, and did I mention they pick only some games that are eligible for the program? Essentially, only their new games that they are currently pushing. Awesome forced advertising. TB on the matter: Boogie on the matter:
