A lovely drop - spoiler
Oh man this topic title baited me hard. I thought you found some great loot. Not just great loot but loot so epic that it needed it's own topic. Well played.

How does the loot list work
Why doesn't it cater to people who like random loot? No one is forcing them to look up the tables that list which day corresponds to which loot. And if you don't know, it'll be random as far as you're concerned. It won't be random though will it? I noticed that for me it wasn't really random because I seemed to always get the same loot from the same place. Then I heard that it's randomized depending on time. See I used to do thing pretty similarly on each run. People get stuck in a pattern with this system. Especially in the early game. There'll be more changes the further you get in the game, but then why not just have something better from the start?

How does the loot list work
It's a form of randomness. Devs never disclosed it was based on the day of the month; users found out via trial and error. Also, I hate random loot Rather superficial randomness though eh? Feels somehow artificial(Can I use this word here?). I'm not a fan of random loot either, but if there's going to be random loot atleast make it random. I don't see the benefit of this kind of quasi semi kinda sorta random system that doesn't cater to people who don't like randomness or people who do like it.

I don't like that. Why isn't it just random? Why do it like that?

Spell mastery
Francis Ironwood replied to Skladzien's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)What's stopping you from resting to recover spells? I'm playing on hard and even with max 2 camping supplies I can keep resting with the camping supplies I find. As to the why? It's obviously for balance. Spells are already some of the best abilities in the game and you got like 4(?) of them per encounter, when most other abilities are 1 or 2 per encounter. Doesn't that sound a bit too strong?

Prisoners still escape?
Francis Ironwood replied to bmardiney's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Haven't played too much yet, but yesterday I got a notification telling me that someone tried to escape, but my expert elite security people stopped him. Don't remember seeing that before, but maybe it's just rare and that's why I haven't seen it before.

WM II items
Why not? Hypothetically: Superb Weapon 16-23 damage Bash 3 13-18 damage I could do 16-23 / recovery / 16-23 / recovery with the sword OR I could do 16-23 / recovery / 13-18 / recovery with the shield. The former has a higher DPS. Two Weapon Fighting still doesn't work with Bash (I tested it yesterday) so reaching 0 recovery with sword and bash shield isn't any easier than reaching it with a single weapon or 2-hander. Question : we all know that base damages are more precious that actual damages. Because when you pile up bonus damage, base damage will get multiplied. So even if enchanted weapons offer +45% damage, it is just an additiive modifier. Menawhile if Bash 3 grants superior base damage, when you start to pile damage modifier, it starts becoming more interesting. +2 Base damage at average speed means +15% base damage. If you pile +200% other modifier, for example, it suddenly becomes as strong as +45% damage bonus (Ok, +200% is not that easy to reach, especially with barbarian carnage malus...). So does Bash 3 actually modifies shield base damage ? Because if it is true, it starts sounding good. Other question : what is the speed of bash ? I suppose average, not fast. Bonus question : does confident aim modifies fighter BASE damages ? See? This is what math does to you. Math, not even once.

Oh no. More math! This is why no one likes you math! You don't know when to stop.

Ah yeah of course. I knew that. Is the shield the same for Fighter and Barbarian?

I haven't played PX2 yet, but if I had to take a wild guess @Francis - Yes, it is. "Bash" doesn't deal great damage, and when you equip a shield with that property you have weapon attack / recovery / bash / recovery instead of weapon attack / recovery / weapon attack / recovery. Weapon attacks deal more damage than bash, so your overall DPS is lower with bash shields. That said, the soulbound shield has pretty kick-ass abilities so I guess we can forgive it its bashing habits Bash is like attacking with an unenchanted weapon in your left hand... If you do the math you'll see you don't lose dps... Also the soulbound shield has Bash3 (higher base damage than 1h weapons) and it procs, which means your damage will be close to dual wielding. Math to the rescue yaayyy. What does "and it procs" mean? I mean what can you proc with a shield?

yeah I guess, buuuut... why though? That has to be a mistake. Does bash take enchantment?

gonna repost this here: I have a question about the soulbound shield since it has Bash. I seem to remember that Bash was super bad and actually lowered your overall damage output. Is that true?

Do you use Devotion of the Faithful as buff or debuff?
Want to hear a secret? I've played this game for 140 hours and I haven't even finished it yet. Not even once.

D&D Cleric Build
You can equip plate on a priest yes. I actually played a shield and mace wielding priest a while back and it worked just fine. Only problem with the priest going in to melee is the pretty awful defensive stats (very low endurance and low deflection). I used the Shod-In-Faith boots and Sanguine Plate because you're going to get critted anyway. ps. Clerics rule and I always try to make a cleric type of build in everything. Got one going in Morrowind right now.

Come on. What's with that armor making everyone into a fighter? Poor fighters getting all their good abilities copied by this thing.

Quality of the new class skills
Engagement based? Think they improved the enemy ai to ignore engagement from tanks to get to squishies (they just soak your disengagement attack). So nowadays making someone who actually utilizes the engagement is pretty hard. edit: Defender was also nerfed and it's basically a joke nowadays. -5 deflection(yes that's a malus to your deflection) +2 engagement. Not sure if you stopped before that so just thought i'd mention it.

Quality of the new class skills
Fighters limited in what they can do? How about barbarian? Their main purpose seems to be spreading afflictions with carnage.

A fully unlocked hammer doesn't have any slaying powers? Yup, but a bit of anti-vessel racism Yes this is what I mean with slaying powers. Stuff that only works against a specific type of enemy. Doesn't have to be damage related.
-

Nooooo slaying powers are so lame.

Thank you! Thought I was going crazy when 2 people referred to an earlier post and i'm just sitting here thinking "am I just stupid? Because i'm not seeing an answer".

Post 44 of this thread. Shows Ring of the Ancient Forge and Abydon's Labor. What about Echo of the Maker and Abydon's Power? The weapons seems to have 4 abilities: 1.Ring of the Ancient Forge 1/enc. 2. Abydon's Labor 1/enc. 3. Grants Abydon's Power on Critical hit. 4. Grants Echo of the Maker (passive) am I missing something here?

so could the FoD proc also do carnage damage? and could that carnage proc FoD again? Assuming the FoD proc works with carnage at all.
-

Okay. What's Grants Abydon's Power on a critical hit? What's Grants Echo of the Maker (passive)? This is what I mean with "all the details".

Someone needs to post all the details on the Abydon's Hammer. Pretty please
