  1. What a crazy film! I had to investigate on wiki, and see they built the spaceship inside the old battleship rather than simply tacking space engines on a 150 year old exploded wreck.
  2. I've seen that in England's Northeast (Newcastle) they breed 'em special so they simply don't feel the cold.
  3. So... what airline were you flying with? United. I was pretty lucky to get a good airline and a good team of folks to talk to, but keep in mind I was operating on about 90% charm to secure the deal I got, and I can be - as Samuel L. Jackson would say - one charming mother ****ing pig.
  4. I think I watched Whiteout (bad, even with the pretty Ms Beckinsale), Paranormal Activity (solid, with another pretty girl, and quite well put together, but ultimately rather uninspired), Zombieland (you know how good it is already).
  5. I managed to get a spa gym to let me train for free when I was on holiday just now. I've lost a little more flab, but I still weigh about 200lbs. I'm one heavy little bastard. I agree tho that Krez shouldn't be depressed. Surely he's too young to have done anything wrong?
  6. I had hoped to have my new romantic interest on hand, but she has to be with the family. So I expect to get maudlin drunk and sing Irish songs.
  7. Just got home from the US. I had awesome luck on the flight as they needed volunteers to travel later. I volunteered expecting a night in a hotel, and 600 dollars plus sundries. First there was an error with the printer, which resulted in my being given a THOUSAND bucks instead, but thanks to my normal British charm the ladies at the desk let me keep the excess. They also offered to boost me to one of those escape aisles with extra legroom. I pointed out that being a shortarse I would be needlessly depriving someone taller so (without my knowing at the time) they boosted me to business class as a joke on the theme. The hotel was excellent and I spent most of the time enjoying the facilities, watching the sci fi channel and eating room service. The food I mean, not the people.
  8. I have decided that my bottomless faith in progress and defiance of natural order is best expressed through my attempts to dance.
  9. Man I hope I get a wife who is either a spur to really hunting the badlands, or is happy to sit on the couch shouting encouragement.
  10. A fellah I met here liked Gabby Young, and suggested I try Roma di Luna. They're not on youtube or anything, but three albums listed on a 'certain' subscription music service. Haunting vocals with mutable backing, from hiphop to bluegrass banjo. A real talent.
  11. Went to a local jazz club, where I had a gin gimlet with hazelnuts in it. Not as mad as it sounds, in fact. Afterwards had far more srprising argument with my host about the nature of press responsibility and the fact that witnesses on the abortive bombing flight are talking to the media. FFS we don't need to know who they saw or didn't see at this stage in the investigation. We deserve an insight into the failures in a fortnight's time. Not while FBI and CIA agents are trying to chase up leads! Madness. Am now drinking Sierra Nevada christmas ale.
  12. I always knew you were a woman of taste and discretion. Yes, Watson is far better. Yes, Holmes is quite action oriented. nbut then you will know from the books he is judo master, gets into boxing matches, and has tremendous physical control. He enjoys a chase and a scrap. I shouldn't pay too much mind to the ads. They are for the hoi polloi.
  13. What I love is how our resident dictatorship fanboy* is so against people deciding how to disburse their money according to their privately chosen religious inclinations. *see previous threads for my explanation of why communism can only be sustained through use of force.
  14. Why not start with yourself? He does have a logical point. If all humans are worthless then by inference YOU are worthless. Me I chose to believe that many humans are awesome/curvy.
  15. Morgan Freeman has tapped into the power of Awesome. That's what. Today one of the buddhist monk guys took me to see a chiropractor. I've never had it done before and when he bashed my neck I swear to God I nearly jumped up, shouting "OH SO IT'S A FIGHT YOU WANT, IS IT?" I feel really weird now, and I think one of my eyes isn't tracking at normal speed.
  16. Seen Sherlock Holmes, and I loved it, even as a long time fan. A genuinely clever adaptation with plenty of fizz. Invictus was excellent, but less fizzy.
  17. Enjoying the last day of my US trip. Some good professional contacts made. Treated very warmly by all. Had only a coupleo f political discussions, which I sidestepped since I'm also a bit on holiday. Not looking forward to going back to bad food. Looking forward enormously to going back to a country which drinks for fun. Don't think I'll have time for meets in Chicago, due to elevated security checks.
  18. I can't believe the downer you goons have on Churchill. I really don't think you're being very understanding of the context for his bad decisions, or the context for his good ones. I especially don't think Gallipolli is a very good example of him being a cretin. At a time when everyone else was saying we just had to keep piling men into the trenches in France he pointed out that it was bloody silly and we HAD to try somewhere else. Yes it failed, but to the best of my knowledge it was operational implementation that failed, rather than the strategic decision which was his responsibility. However, what's more startling is that good space is still being wasted on this topic.
  19. Culture can say something is good or bad when it isn't in the same way it can say anything at all. It said the Earth was basically flat when it wasn't. That didn't change the curvature of the earth. Likewise virtually everyone in the 1940s was racist. Didn't make it right. It merely made it more understandable, and ultimately more manageable. Interesting that you mentioned the South Africans. I had two aunts, both in their eighties, They had their home broken into. They were apparently raped by at least four individuals who then beat them to death. If their culture says that's OK then yes it's evil. I'm not convinced it does, tho, before anyone gets any crazy ideas about South Africans.
  20. I'd just like to add that I've been bought the game for Xmas! huzzah!
  21. It's all perfectly sane. Xenophobia is bad. Xenophobia means fear of aliens. This game certainly makes me scared of aliens. ERGO AvP is bad and should be banned because it makes you want to track jews with a motion tracker then nuke them from orbit.
  22. Fwiiw i don't mind you whingeing. It's nice sometimes to hear another side to a popular thing.
  23. Secretaries don't get recognised? Maybe so, but any smart man makes damned certain he recognises them. It's the seccys who get stuff done.
  24. Please forward me your postal address. I wish to do a large number of revolting things to you then claim they are good where I come from.
