OK I really should have foreseen the members' positive response to 18th century medicine.

The notion that the Founding Fathers have an authoritative view on economics when high tech was barely even at the steam engine in their day, and communication consisted of a man in a three cornered hat riding a horse as fast as possible until it got tired... I can't even begin to... You might just as well argue that healthcare should consist of drinking as much wine as possible and falling down in a brothel.

Sorry to hear that, Bok. Hope the new one works out OK. EDIT/ASIDE: What kind of sub-moron, in front of thousands of people and hundreds of cameras, deliberately knees someone during anything other than an arse-kneeing contest?

Sorry. I didn't mean to diss the song, Cutlock. Actually it's OK. But my point was that it could have been better with just a bit more effort than this pareto bull****.

So many goddamn live musicians available they're going hungry, and these funtwits use synth? Weak. [/grumpyoldman]

The Internet has got a lot of growing up to do

While I approve the sentiment, all I've seen the internet do in that respect is promote moral relativism to the extent that a mass murdering foreign dictator is trusted more than a democratically elected European government. The equivalent effect in dictatorial countries matters much less because the people aren't consulted. ~~ I don't mean to sound defeatist. I believe in change and improvement. But I believe in change centred on and driven by rare good people, not a notion of the common man set free. -
A lazy bot? Now I've seen everything.

Really, so you'd discount the recent standoof between a Philippine warship and Chinese vessels? Smiling and nodding only goes so far. Pretty soon folks are going to get hungry. At that point, who do you think the salons in Beijing would rather fire on? Their own people, or some badly armed foreigners?

All the copper wire in the universe can't change the basic nature of man from being parochial, lazy, and selfish. Utopia projects are - even in Civ - a pointless distraction from meaningful pedestrian policies. -
Even if fusion came online it would hardly send oil companies out of business. They'd just adapt using the huge financial resources at their disposal. The real danger to anyone inventing cheap fusion would be countries like Russia who a) depend on oil for their foreign currency balances b) regularly assassinate people

I'll take a good merc company over any arms-length-and-nose-held UN 'mission' any day. I don't see this story as a big deal, in the context of all the other pullouts. One could hardly expect the Aussies to go it alone. Besides which they really need to prrioirtise tehir spending on meeting the expanding threat from China. A task which strategic allies will thank them for just as much as being in Afghan.

Seems like it. Shame we have, you know, memories.

But just think of all the rare metals, plastics, and copper needed to get all those folks online. -
But no-one can possibly eat an entire sack of potatoes!

Is the air being properly filtered in the new place? Mold? Allergens? Maybe you just feel more anxious in your new place try roaring while beating your chest

I'm actually OK with Breivik getting publicity. The more he talks the stupider he sounds. Largely, but not entirely recovered from that fever last week. Can't stop coughing, though. Weird.

I don't see anyone with the simple charisma to beat Obama. But I believe this is his ruination beyond the election. Charisma condemns him. I think the ultimate condemnation of the man isn't what he set out to do, but that he's either failed to do it or it's been an utter balls up. And it's because of his charisma. Foreign policy wise, which was his big plank, what has he done? Made kissy face at the Russians, Chinese, Iranians, and Koreans. All of whom are taking the complete piss. It's been an unmitigated disaster. Not just for these big players, but the fact that in spite of being a big 'hippy' icon he's been lofting drones all over the place, scrambling to cope with unepxected events in Yemen, North Africa, West Africa. You name it. Domestically, I'm still sold on the notion that the US spends too much GDP on health care which is insufficiently productive, and reducing that is good sense. I still believe (although Hurlshot convinced me to severely question it) that government intervention is the way to do that. But I don't believe that Obama can deliver it. He simply isn't aggressive enough to hit the entrenched niterests hard enough. He thinks he can win by being charming , which is just as much nonsense domestically as it is internationally. If anyone here IS an Obama fan the best thing you can do is to convince him he isn't nearly as charming as he thinks he is. I don't know how. Maybe send him some exfoliation cream, or big sunglasses.

Exhausted, but like Monte I'll be off to work tomorrow. No option.

Let me just ask: how do you feel about toasters?

The Hunter, The Hammer, and Heaven. Robert Young Pelton Trips to three warzones, chatting to colourful types and so forth. Pelton has been in this game for years and I've never heard an unkind word against him. He has written several books which I have read, but this one is easily the simplest to get 'into'. Strongly recommend it.

I have never seen such a parade of horse faced banshees.

I'm guessing two may be needed in case one of us gets ill or what have you. Good way to avoid losing momentum.

Fever seemes to have burned it out. Green mucus all day. Bug corpses, so I understand. Pretty tired, but cheery.

To keep play moving, and also because it's my long-standing conviction that you need a plot GM and an NPC GM.
