They didn't have to put 'tons of new dialogue.' Shale was one of the earliest party members concieved and they had a great deal of VO already recorded before they cut him.

The Grimoire adds 3 attribute points, not 3 points to all attributes. The helmet is one of the best in the game, but you don't start out with it in your pack. It exists in the game world and you can discover it. There's been no announcement of such, but I'm expecting it, especially as they're planning on a DLC expansion. There's no reason to believe that Shale is underdeveloped.

Okay, I've finished the pirate treasure quest. Got myself a swanky new shield. (I just stumbled upon the one you mentioned) Am wielding the sharp bastard sword now. I finally got my alchemy to 3 so I made myself a bunch of health/+str potions. I'm going to finish all my other quests then do that one quest that I hear triggers an event that makes the island more hack-n-slashy. Still a hunter.

I levitated across a cliff (had to use two scrolls) to be rewarded with a 'fine sword,' which was better than the sharp sword I'd made. This is great, as I'd been using the sharp sword for the last 5 levels (was level 12). Five minutes later, I encountered a pack of 6 wolves and 3 black wolves, killed them, leveled up, and now am using my the evil bastard sword, which is much more powerful. No. You die a great deal. When you level up, you die a bit less.

I found the level 3 (max level) picklock trainer, trained, and then ran to the nearest chest that I hadn't been able to open. When I click on it, the PC says, "I'll have to pick this or find the key." Even though it's an open-world exploration game, it's far smaller than either of them. It feels linear to me, more like the Witcher than either of those games; it

After Chapter 2, stonger animals respawn all over the island. Of course, I still have the hunter armor I did in Chapter 1, and I'm back to using my sharp sword, which I got at level 5, as my sharp bastard doesn't block anything. The guy who I wanted to teach me Open Locks 3 will no longer talk to me, so I need to find a different teacher. Annoying.

I'm in Chapter 2 now and for some reason I failed a quest to tell Flitcher about a temple. Annoying. Most interesting bug so far: Recruit: "Can you help me? My friend Kryeban was searching for plants and he disappeared." Conversation ends and recruit begins chatting with Kryeban, who's sitting beside him. I died in Oblivion.

Okay.. traps. How do I not get myself killed by giant spikes that spring out of the ground? How are the fundamental design concept of Risen so different from Oblivion? It's more story-based, but it feels very much like a mainstream RPG.

I've focused on the secondary skills (gutting, prospecting, smithing, pickpocketing, lockpicking, sneaking) and have a strength of 50 and a bastard sword I made (thank you mkreku). I don't like the combat. I find it strange that NPCs call the PC a pretty boy when his face has to be one of the most unattractive in the game. There's apparently only one model for women.

AP isn't coming out until 2010. Yes. And if you look at the picture I posted, there's a shot of the inventory. The fifth row down, the second item is weed that you can smoke. Doing so gives you +23 XP. So they're rewarding you for smoking weed. You also get XP for sex. That's why they banned it. The only option is trade/don't trade. If you say 'Yes' then you get 5 gold. If you say 'No' then it cancels the transaction.

.. Are you sure? If so, you're dealing with one hell of a bug. Just to be sure, I'll do to a trader, sell them a single item and see if your gold doesn't increase.
