Pictures of your Games 11 - The Quickening
LadyCrimson replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
I play the game and I still have no idea what is going on. But one is a Summon, which is something that randomly prompts in combat (or is scripted to occur), different ones do different attacks, all have flashy animations. The interesting thing (to me) is how little of it they actually show you vs. what you can see while using Ansel. I mean I know it's cherry picked for dramatic effect and all but I still wish they showed more. It's like how dance in movies used to show more of the full body, following dancer around, and now they just show you and arm or leg or flash on a movement for 1 second. (Skip to 30 seconds if you want) -
I almost never watch late night talk shows so I miss all this stuff. To me, that's what YT is for. Oh man, I was dying. Paul Rudd has it down. And they do their own singing. it's perfect.

Finally got around to doing the FFXV - FFXIV collaboration quest - Garuda boss and summon. The mission was kind of boring (and leads to new gear you have to grind for, meh, plus silly bro outfits, double-meh) but I like the garuda wing design. -
I had a cat who didn't like to walk on carpet, once, a few months before he passed from sudden liver failure. He would jump/leap/contort on stuff as much as possible to avoid touching it. It was really weird. Over sensitive paw pads I guess. I figured it was from the disease affecting that but vet said he'd never heard of such before. *shrug* ...today I've been trying to make the two 27" monitors match in color calibration as much as possible. The 1440 from hubby's stash is constantly a bit more yellow with the lack of blue tone and brightness to whites/overall contrast that I like (or the other way, too much red). I can make them fairly close but not enough for me to ignore re: consistency across all workspaces. eg, I need a new monitor. Pick, pick, pick.

Weather's getting a bit warmer so hubby's back at the cheap 3D printers and getting them to print "properly.". I wonder if he can do R2D2. Also, it's really hard to get a decent shot of something black and reflective w/a cheap PoS camera.

And that's how I feel about that. ...also, my tooth or gum hurts. Not sure which. I could probably "self-treat" it like always and the pain would leave eventually but I suppose I'll have to stop avoiding the dentist soon. Edit: yes I hate dentists ... I can just eat jerky puree, right.

Thanks, Cheat Engine people. Any chr in any mission (cutscenes excluded ofc). So I was able to play with the panther a bit before I even reached that point in the game. More fun than practicing in "the Void". -
I don't disagree Steam could use some more store competition. What I dislike (so far) about Epic is the whole exclusivity thing, especially the time-length of it. I'm never a fan of exclusivity contracts for games even as I understand why it's done. But if Epic - or someone else - comes up with a launching client that gives me, the user, a lot more control over stuff like WHEN to install game patches, online/offline features, game search indexing and exception rules, than Steam does etc, I would consider moving.
-
That is ... well, not exactly encouraging. I wonder what they'll come up with as a rationale.
-
That sounds like a good deal - couple years of lower rent to be able to save etc. Especially important/useful around here. Congrats. We (especially hubby) used to like projects like that but yeah...it's a lot of work especially if you're in a time crunch of some kind. It's amazing tho how just a fresh coat of paint and/or some cheap new carpeting can make a place look/feel so much better. Good luck/have fun! :D

Speaking of Epic ... I guess the new Epic "panic" is from some twitter remarks Pitchford made regarding Epic a few months ago. So folks are drumming up fear that BL3 could be Epic exclusive. Rather counting eggs before they hatch but I can understand why ppl are worried, with all these exclusivity stories. Ducks/waterfowl hanging out in their element is something I've always found relaxing. Taken my fair share of photos, too. :D -------- The KVM switchbox I bought worked but every time I switched PC's it'd move and resize open windows. Piece of expensive $300 trash if you ask me. So I crammed a 3rd monitor on desk so I don't have to switch monitors and bought a small $30 USB KB/mouse switch instead. With a cheap 5V power added, it powers the LED keyboard just fine and doesn't move your windows. Much better arrangement all around even if I have to crane my neck to the right to view the 2nd rig's monitor. Hubby had never seen a switchbox where the cable was a USB connector on both ends (vs. one end having that sort of square plug). I told him he just wasn't hip anymore.

The Dawn Wall, via Netflix Good documentary about freeclimbing and the two guys that did the Dawn Wall in Yosemite. Lots of bro-bonding in the last half. Also answered the question of how do you deal with a #2 while camping on the edge of a sheer cliffwall. Not that I really needed that answered, but there it is.

If it possibly saves the company from going under, that feels more understandable. I still think it's an icky thing to do, but sometimes business/running a company ends up like that. Hard decisions have to be made and it's not about malice or pure greed ... but such doesn't always make the consumer feel better or more accepting about feeling like expectations/promises aren't being met in the original promised form (not having to wait a delayed year if you wanted Steam/God, for example). Grey areas.

DMC5 - not far in, still, but feels like any backstory is largely contained in load text screens (that I often can't read all of because it loads too fast) while the rest is in cutscenes. Missions dump you into a set piece quest area where you romp around smooshing stuff with a boss at the end. Maybe it improves later. It's weird flipping between chrs vs. picking one to be the chr. for the whole playthru, and the fact each chr. uses different combat button layout makes it even weirder. I put it on easy mode with "combat assist" since I probably would suck at the manual button combo stuff, especially when I'm more concerned about hitting the Photo Mode key than about hitting enemies. 4k Ultra is around 80-120FPS. Graphics are pretty, faces are photo-realistic at times but look rather fugly and uncanny valley up close or when moving, Lip syncing often feels a bit off, both in English and in Japanese/subtitle which doesn't help the uncanny valley aspect at times. The whole "orb" thing for buying skills and talents feels arcade-y, although it feels like there'd be little problem amassing enough without microtransactions. Unless you suck at combat and are trying a difficulty too tall for you. No crash issues for me yet.

Took me a while to figure out techie/display issue stuff, haven't even gotten to panther-Ren in tutorial mission/s grr. The photo mode's camera zoom range is very limited (smallish circle centered around player-chr). Ansel is definitely leagues and leagues better. Supposedly I can get rid of the logo with a file I downloaded I'll try it later. If you're using a Dualshock, the button to get to Photomode is super awkward to hit in the middle of a fight meaning very tough to get action shots. Plus a lot of blurry ripply effects. >.> -
Tried watching a longer, real gameplay vid of DMC5. Was thinking "graphical pizazz, still not sure I like the gameplay yet ..... WAIT ... is that a (sortof) BLACK PANTHER COMPANION Kylo Ren is using?" *hits the purchase button* I'm so easy.

When it's so windy (no rain, sunny day, just wind) that in the middle of typing something, the power goes out. Doesn't happen often here. My new rig! Noooooooo! ... wait, it seems fine. That's ok then. Btw, how do you get Win10's UAC to shut up every time you open an already installed program like, say, CoreTemp. I put UAC down one notch, I checked the "Run as Admin" on its shortcut, UAC still asks every...single...time.

A Korean Odyssey/Hwayugi via Netflix Hm why haven't I noticed this one before. It reminds me, in flavor, a bit of both Goblin and Masters Sun. So supernatural, deities, demons, ghosts, comedy, (probably eventually) tragedy, romance. On episode 5, very bingeable so far. And the actor playing Ma Wong is killing it. I'm in stitches almost every time he has a longer scene. (He's not human and Sam Jang = a special/rare human that has an irresistible blood-scent)

I'm also lazy. Plus I've never been an early-ish adopter of things like "you must use/play it here" software clients. I wait and see where it goes/how it develops first. Didn't get onto Steam until 6 years went by.

^ Not familiar with that game but seems like an icky thing to do, considering it was at least partly or mostly crowdfunded far as I can tell. Especially after that Metro backlash, that a small indie game would make that move seems odd and one does wonder exactly what benefit they see in it. I mean, if they like the Epic model so much they could wait until their next game to do it, for example. I wonder how many will demand that refund.

--Sekiro on March 22 looks interesting. --I still think of Kylo Ren when I watch that one chr. in DMC5. --7 Days to Die ran at mostly-maxed on 4k at 60-75fps with drops into the low 50's or upper 40's with lots of zombies around. The still horribly unoptimized voxel alpha game makes for a pretty good CPU tester actually. Alpha17 looks better than before but it's never going to be a looker. I hear Minecraft with certain mods brings things to their knees too. What I need is The Outer Worlds. Just to play. Hurry up, Obsidian.

^ Ah, yeah, ulcers suck. I knew two ppl who've had them - one was cured of it because it was that bacteria related type, the other still deals with it. Only thing I ever had was a fair bit of acid reflux when I was younger but it seems to have gone away with age, or perhaps when I stopped drinking a liter of sugar-Pepsi a day, haha. Massive diet restriction is one reason why I refused to take those earlier anti-depressants doctors kept trying to push on me as a kid (MAOI's) - no soy/sauce? no cured/smoked meats? no pickled foods or sourdough? etc - no way. :D (the other reason is because they made me sleepy and zombie brain dead) Never thought about yogurt and acid. Unless they're super jam-fruity or something I don't have the belly to notice it I guess. Tomatoes on the other hand ...

Sounds like a fine idea! Because that first/original Doom movie worked so well....oh wait. And yeah, it does look like a cheap SyFy film or something, heh. I still think Will Smith is horribly miscast but I grudgingly admit it can be hard to tell from 5 second soundbytes.

Has this become the "Games You Are Uninstalling" thread? I have to decide what games I'm going to leave installed on the Win7 rig and what I'm going to reinstall on the new one, still. I still want a large HDD purely for the storage space since I like to flood them with GB's of nothing but pictures and videos that don't need mega speed just to view, but I am loving the 1TB NVMe SSD ... *stupid FFXV and its 152GB install size...* ...and I'm still playing Quest Hunter. Fairly quickly I'd lose health so rapidly to dungeon enemies that I wondered how I was supposed to progress. Then I realized I was having so much fun whacking stuff with my frying pan that I'd totally forgotten about the stat/skill point stuff. And quests to get a blacksmith. Now I can freeze enemies, do more damage, and all is well again. Ditching the fry pan made me sad tho.
