What Are You Playing Now: Gaming Lives

"Played" another hour of Outer Worlds. In quote marks because I basically ran around it in circles close to the first town, taking pictures, killing a few animals/bandits while avoiding others, picking up any free loot containers, and talking to quest npc's but then completely ignoring them. I dunno ... I find the landscape quite nice to jog around in but the desire to follow the plot or take "work" to make cash is nil. I need a pretty walking simulator with no boundaries for VR or something. I was sort of interested in that new Occulus 2 VR because $299 would be an ok experimental price point to me, but then heard about Facebook account connection/login/integration required. I don't have a Facebook account, not going to get one. So much for that. -
Music for Halloween. Also, a history lesson about the pipe organ and Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor,

omg, just the other day we were talking about movies and his name came up. I said something like "he's still alive." NooOOooooOooooo.... Thanks for all the wonderful characters. RIP

I absolutely loved Season 1 of Dark Matter, told hubby about it etc. Then they did something and I stopped watching. Hubby finished it tho.

According to Steam and user-tags, 75%** of all games ever made are RPG's. ** number pulled out of my arse, but it sure feels that way sometimes

Couldn't take the non-rebindable keys in Xuan Yuan 7 anymore, my pinky just doesn't like to move to the left (shift, ctrl, etc) and all I was going to do was smash the mouse button, so I picked up my dualshock. Which is much better ... except the prompts are xbox so I spent a while fumbling around learning what button is what while staring at my cheat sheet taped to the TV. At least I can dodge and some other stuff better, now. -
@HoonDing The drawing art in the game is beautiful.

I've pretty much decided that I should buy a house next door to at least one of several forumites so I can drop by for food now and then.

...I see no pictures. Sounds nice, tho.

Wot I bought last - a fool and their money mystary edition

I haven't gotten any farther in OW than the intro stuff, not because of any judgements but because I'm easily distracted and fickle lately. It is the first Obsidian game I've purchased since Pillars 1 tho. After Pillars I lost interest in similar styled rpg games. I've considered Grounded but the visual style doesn't suit me that much for some reason, it's not complete yet, and I'm tired of survival/base-building games as well. Avowed might be something to perk my interest tho. Maybe, need more info first ofc. Also on topic: I bought that silly be a cat game because it was very cheap, I was bored, and cats. And the Taiwanese RPG Xuan-Yuan Sword 7 that I posted about elsewhere, which for $35 was worth a shot and I'm liking it quite a lot. -

I saw/considered that game a bit ago, but then I read it required an always connected 'net/server connection to play ... single-player. I don't buy those. -
Total War: JJ Abrams edition?

Wutwut? *google* Hmm...these days I typically don't have patience for micro-managing RTS armies or the politiking aspects if any (even tho I do like the genre). But I watched a video of a couple battles and ... yeah, I can see the appeal there. Maybe at some point.

Xuan-Yuan Sword VII Took a chance on this, one of the few Asian (Taiwanese) RPG titles on Steam that has English subtitles and might be in my wheelhouse etc. A long running series apparently, VII is the latest one. While some facial animations/textures aren't "top modern best" it looks fantastic on the 4k TV (1440 monitor too), with great in-game scenes and overall look. No performance issues at max (did have to disable Win10 resolution scaling compat. setting to play 4k, known issue) So far I like the music. There's a lot of long dialogue back and forth at times (think Taiwan/Chinese drama over-exposition) but for once I actually don't mind and so far am interested in the actual goings-on. I think you can skip-button just about all of it if you want however. I'm not too far in, the first couple hours seems to be setup/exposition moments and short quests, very tv/movie like, but again ... I strangely don't mind. It's probably going to be fairly linear path-wise and the basic combat/controls seem simple, but with special moves/attacks/combos (?) and the like later. I wish you could rebind a few keys tho. Anyway ... I'm quite enamored of it already, especially in terms of chr/mystery and visceral appeal. -
Finally ... I think this is one that will be more than a brief stint/I'll stick with.

I'm a cat who is gonna save Halloween, apparently. But first I was thirsty. Then I found the trampoline. Best cat game evah.

Get to Chapt 3 as soon as possible, don't dwaddle in the first extra-long tutorial section (if you're sort of a completionist you can return to it later anyway). As for the cinematic - they slow down for most of the game except certain story moments, but you may rage a bit at the end unless the story really interests you. They overdid the UI micro-animations tho. Pressing skip over and over for certain things was definitely annoying. -
My problem with shopping for a new/better tv to use as a monitor is the Samsung's are constantly sold out at stores. By the time they have anything in stock or not a month long order list it'll be a new gen of TV's. >.> I don't want OLED yet, still too worried about burn-in with the way I'd use it (it's desktop-on pretty much all day every day, only off when I sleep). Also, I'd like one in the 48"-50" range but most of the "better" ones are 55" or larger. I could get a 60-65 and mount it on the wall but I'm paranoid about it falling down (especially if there's an earthquake), and even with some swivel/tilt and extension on the mount, getting to the back of it would be a PITA. Are there any truly good wall mounts? Hubby bought a floor stand for his 55" so it could be behind his desk putting a bit more distance - sadly that won't work in my case. I could just stick with a larger and cheaper LG TV again but ... I'm just horribly undecided.

Hmm...I like the game look (pics from very start). This is the demo, not full game. "Ghostrunner." See that board sign ahead? You can run sideways on it to get to places (like parkour I guess?). It feels cooler than it sounds. Very smooth and fast. Can't take screens while controlling it so these are video stills. It's a slicing and dicing action game, btw. The one-hit one kill type. You will die. And die. And die. Maybe I shouldn't buy it, after all. But that running move is so fun!

Don't know how they compare to any others but plenty of mom's I knew growing up would use the common US ones for stuff. Pies mostly, soup sometimes. My mother liked to dry out the seeds in the oven for eating.

@Keyrock - I like your hat. The pumpkin could use a face, tho.
-
No worries, even if you were, I wouldn't understand it. What Keyrock said is good enough, I trust y'all being more knowledgeable than myself. I'm still perfectly fine with 60hz as long as the 60fps is solid. But it's harder to find low hz quality monitors for example and I figure at some point I'm going to have to switch (yes I know I could run 120 at 60, just saying). I mean, I can *get* higher than 60 fps in games but outside of being an fps overhead I gather it doesn't mean anything vs 100+fps on an actual higher hz monitor. I'm dubious my old eyes would even notice a serious difference but one day I'll find out I guess.

Ah, ok. So something like the Q90 has a 240 "magic trick" mode instead. Got it, thanks.
