  1. ^ To follow up, finished Ashfall. Not worth it. Most of the "disaster" aspect is in the first opening bits. The rest becomes almost a human drama as chrs. race to steal something so they can do something that might save the world etc. The two main leads eventually have an ok chemistry in the male-bonding under adversity way but meh. I wanted cheesy epic disaster, not drama with a side dose of political messages.
  2. I've been feeling the same, only about TV's I want to use in my game/pc room. Inside walk-in stores I mean. I refuse to order big tv's online, when it's 50/50 I'll want to return/exchange but no one floor-stocks much at a time anymore.
  3. *install MM7 without a hitch* "Ok, here I go! ... 'clickclick' ... wait, how do I move in this game again." *mashes random keys* *looks at configuration sheet* "Nope, that's attack, that's cast spell, that's next turn, that's...wait that's a strange key configuration if I have to click on stuff..." ...a few minutes later... "Oh ... BOTH hands on the keyboard, no mouse. That's right. Games were like that once. How quaint."
  4. It's not a kewl pic or anything, but I just wanted to say: When you use a big screen, sometimes when you pause the game, look away then look back, it's like being startled by Norman Reedus live, in my room. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but that's what it's like.
  5. I'm craving RPG lately too, just a different type. So I'm going to install Might and Magic 7 (GoG version this time, not CD) and see how well it works on Win10. Been years. Can't be evviiillll but you can pick dark magic, which is the best magic. Running around Souldrinking everything in sight was a blast.
  6. It's important to note that one should look for games that have DLSS 2.00 or higher. I was scratching my head when that linked article listed FF-XV in the little box of contents stating "DLSS 2 games" at the top of the article. Because it's not. If you scroll way way down to the actual entry for it, they mention (correctly) that what FF-XV uses is still a very early version of DLSS, possibly even a late beta of it. And it looks like butt. I mean I suppose on smaller resolutions or if you aren't all that picky/attuned to image clarity or sit far back, it's not the worst in the world and you'd get a fps boost but far as I'm concerned, FF-XV in 4k with DLSS looks like someone put a pixel blurring or oversharpening filter over everything - no-DLSS/natively High-Max looks tons better. So don't buy FFXV just to try DLSS. lol Anyway ... DLSS 2+ good. Games that have earlier versions and that aren't likely to ever be upgraded/updated ... only good if you're desperate for that 10-20 more fps just to play, but not good for looks.
  7. I'm sure at some point over the many years someone posted this gif here before, but I'm posting it today.
  8. The Swindlers (2017, S. Korea, Amazon-rented) - three of my favorite actors? Yes please. Turned out to be a pretty good crime/corruption/action-caper movie. I could guess the likely twist halfway through and it's more about emotion vs. character if that makes sense (and has plenty of the S. Korea tropes here and there) but pretty entertaining for the genre. Ashfall (2019, S. Korea, Amazon-rented) - I liked Jung-woo Ha in Along with the Gods and thought it might be a decent trashy, mindless disaster flick. 30 minutes in, the script was even more ludicrous than I was expecting and Jung-woo wasn't on-screen much yet and ... I fell asleep. I'll finish it today but I don't have tons of hope for it. Amazon has it English dubbed (trailer) as well as Korean/subtitles (my choice).
  9. I'm beginning to be a little worried about our neighbors on one side. Nice causal couple in their 30's with a (very young) kid, don't know them well, just wave/hello at them, y'know. They were still here when I got out of the hospital but not long after they seemed to pack up for a vacation and left. They haven't been back. Yard is not mowed, cars are still gone, all yard furniture is there, no moving trucks or for sale ever appeared etc (they own the house). They could have left for work reasons or because of covid concerns or something but it's still odd. After a couple months it's feeling kind of creepy. At least there's no .... smell coming from the house.
  10. Dear Dev's: I do not think your FPS cap setting works as intended. ...it is a bit lower than that while in actual gameplay, but currently forced to use an app to limit it to prevent higher than should be gpu temps over time. Maybe it's just me, dunno. ...and yes, all the BG3 talk influenced my chr. names.
  11. I don't think there's anything wrong with the "four chord progression" being so prevalent. There's probably a reason for it, like heightened emotional response hence more memorable or something. Depends what goes around those chords too. But it is funny when you mash 'em up like that - hence the "all the songs sound the same these days!" (said by people for decades and decades and...).
  12. ^ I won't even watch weekly release shows for "free" (eg, the "big networks" / ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX etc) Speaking of those networks, Netflix now has the 1st season of a show called Evil. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9055008/ Apparently a CBS series, which was marked for a 2nd season so at least there will be more at some point, if I end up wanting more. It's a sort of "movie-Catholic evil/miracle" x-files, with two non-believers and one believer as the church-hired investigators who verify or debunk. The first episode is pretty attention grabbing and even occasionally amusing. 2nd and 3rd episode were kind of "meh". The 4th episode was attention grabbing again. Wonder if that's going to be the pattern. :D Anyway, I think it's worth a look and trying at least those 4 episodes (there's 13), at least if you like the sound of the premise.
  13. I still find the frequent/constant face/shoulder close-ups overly distracting. I guess I'm too visually oriented (or something) and especially on a larger TV it makes me want to take a step backwards, as if I'm standing almost toe to toe when they're talking. Seems rude! Those are definitely comical moments most of the time.
  14. 9th Dawn 3 (a pixel-y, hack-slash rpg game with bit of Divine Divinity feel but more grindy) --there's no tutorial re: skills or abilities and it took me a while to figure out how to become a mage vs. melee, seems to be the "use gear/skills to increase" sort --you don't gain ability points (eg, to acquire Fireball or other active/passive skills) on level up, you have to find them as loot (or maybe some thru quests sometimes?) --if you die, you lose "a little XP" --if you die, you're teleported back to the last/closet load spot you saved and all enemies respawn So I keep trying to clear this early snake-pit dungeon. Mostly easy peasy. One locked room however (the lever to open it was far far away), I've tried to approach the room itself to loot it and the enemy guarding it keeps killing me. Die, back to town, sell, try to upgrade a little, fight back, die, repeat. Maybe I'm a little too low level. Grindy, slashy, mindless fun tho. Can't wait till I can tame an army of rats or other to fight with me. Might be a while.
  15. So maybe this would work for my desire to be evieeeeeeeeeeaalllll? I think my general impression is that overall it's going to be a pretty good cRPG, even if it doesn't "seem like a Baldurs Gate" in the end ... just not a rpg for me personally. I really am impressed with some of the visuals in it tho, for the game type. Last time I played a game at all like this one was probably Pillars of Eternity and iirc, even tho I did like it quite a lot, I was near insane with irritation of the micro-management of combat by the end. And that was RTwP not turn-based. I think my patience for that kind of management rpg combat are sadly over.
  16. Remember this? Roomie made a new mash-up of more songs with those chords. It's not comedic tho, just melodic.
  17. I wasn't a huuuge fan of Nutella chocolatey spread but I'd buy a jar now and then. Of course now I "can't" since it's higher in carbs/sugar (and not much else) than I'd want even as once in a while. I mean it's basically spreadable candy right, despite the claims of hazelnuts. Found this at Nob Hill tho. I tend to like almond butters more than peanut. It's a little hard to stir in the jar if the oil separates a little (can in warm weather) so it's not the most evenly-smooth stuff, but it sure tastes good on bread/crackers. Don't know if I'd call it healthy, exactly, but at least it's more nut-fat/nutrition etc. Less of that odd artificial flavor than Nutella too. Lots of options these days if you're actually looking for them.
  18. Do you notice the difference? ...the green line has gone down by almost one segment. ...is it being shipped by rowboat? Better be the mostest cushion-y, squishy cute-ness worth the wait (and the price tag).
  19. I have full width posts too and didn't even have to use any blockers. More seriously, @Schin, it is better than before in terms of width at full screen, even with those side boxes still there. Bonus, it still scales down nicely with skinny resized windows - I think before I couldn't make them that skinny without a scrollbar at the bottom appearing.
  20. Sort of a cross between Divine Divinity (1st one) and Diablo maybe? https://store.steampowered.com/app/1154850/9th_Dawn_III/ Take everything - I can agree with that motto! It's not pretty (the run animation is hilarious) and the click combat is a little clunky feeling but it works fine. The map is fairly big seems like, with the dungeons you enter being decently maze-d size. I think I likey. Edit: plus can eventually tame animals as party members.
  21. ^ I noticed the post width shrinkage as well. If you're still on 1080 it's not that bad but on 1440 or 4k (lol) it's kind of annoying at full desktop size. But I tend to size browser windows to half or 2/3 of my desktop size anyway. I do like that it scales well to resizing (to a point) so if I want I can have it be this tiny narrow strip on one side and it's still readable/functional (doing this puts the "Announcements etc" bars at the bottom, like on mobile), heh. I find default fonts on a lot of websites/web software these days terrible to read, especially using higher resolutions, and I force a font via browser settings vs. allowing sites to pick. Each update puts it closer and closer to the way such looks/acts on mobile, vs. keeping something that is more "PC-designed." Eh, I'm old school too, but I'm pretty resigned used to it by now.
  22. LOL ... it's a trap! https://clips.twitch.tv/HumblePatientSageRlyTho Edit: how does one unlock yet not unlock in D&D? Is the second supposed to be "couldn't disarm?"
  23. I definitely noticed dem checks, and they're quite frequent. The cute animated dice roll is cute, but yeah ... most people I saw either failed them or reloaded a few times. I know if I was playing I'd likely be save-scumming like mad during a 1st playthru. Another early-ish fight I saw has you encountering an event where before you're allowed to fight, the camera kept swinging rapidly/violently between this bunch here to this bunch up there, as they either fought or battle-cried, to some guy jumping off a wall to an enemy etc. It was all whiplash inducing, that camera.
  24. ^ I've never seen/looked under a console before. Wait, I didn't see it, where's the gpu? ...oh. Miniaturization is a beautiful thing. When can we have PC gpu's that are still PC powerful but get at least a bit smaller instead of bigger and bigger and bigger ....
