You know I was thinking about buying a horse. One of my tenants has 100 some odd horses grazing on one of my properties. I was talking to them how it would be kind of cool to have one and he said he would sell one to me anytime I wanted. Wasn’t really planning on learn to ride. I was thinking more of just another big pet. But it’s certainly an option.

In the latest news from the world of the absurd the University of Oxford has a bunch of professors that want to ban sheet music. They say it has ties to colonial past and is racist and white supremacist. Classical Music. Racist. Not joking. Sometimes I read the news because I just can’t wait to see what comes next LOL! What the hell, why do this in half measure. Not only should it be banned from Oxford it should be outlawed everywhere. Every single tape, record, CD should be confiscated all digital files deleted and everyone who does not turn there is over should be ruthlessly hunted down like the mad dogs they are! All record of all composers of European descent must immediately be erased they must become unpersons! OK, maybe that would be going to far. Will have to see.

And don't forget the honey from the Babylon Bee to go with your Onion: Sesame Street Introduces 'Todd', A White Male Muppet Who Is Blamed For Everything I like the Babylon Bee a lot. But the Onion is better. It's wittier and more subtle IMO.

Sorry Gftd you struck out again. Bay area UBI experiment excludes white residents Edit: I should clarify. This experiments privately funded, they can give money to anybody they want. IDGAF about the plan deliberately selecting black participants. The whole point of this post was just to tweak our friend in Illinois

Are you kidding? The Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut is the greatest donut ever invented in the history of man! Especially when it’s hot. It literally melts on the tongue. All other donuts are just chewy bread with crap slathered all over them!

The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
When Bill Clinton is picked to head up a council on women’s empowerment the state of politics in the United States has long passed the level of absurdity where it can be rationally discussed. Some folks are still fighting the Partisan battle as though the alternative were any better. Those of us who know what’s going on know that we are on an express elevator to hell and going down. I’m just trying to fire off a few sarcastic comments here and there and otherwise enjoy the ride.

That’s where you went wrong right there. You can’t. You can feed them and provide for them and take care of them but by God you cannot own them. And they will let you know that too. If anything it’s the other way around.

Heck that’s easy. Reach out to the by the Biden administration in an offer to put up a couple of illegal aliens, oh excuse me undocumented migrants, in your spare bedrooms. After all he is shelling out a hell of a lot of our tax money to put them in decent hotels. You could start a AirBnB for them and suckle on the government teat to do it. Win win. Of course you don’t speak Spanish so the conversation will be a little awkward. But the government rent checks will be printed in English. For now. 😂

General movie thread!!!!
Watched this tonight. It was really, really well done: They took some liberties with the original. Some things were out of order, and some lines were said by other characters. No biggie. It was the best movie adaption of a Shakespere play I've ever seen. Even better than Ian McKellen as a very Nazi-like Richard III

What You've Done Today - As the World Turns
Had to go to the courthouse today in Dyersburg to clear up a petty annoyance with a property easement problem. I've been trying to do this by phone/e-mail but Dyer county hasn't joined the 21st century yet. I considered asking Janet (my lawyer) to deal with it but I figure I'm going to end up writing a goddamned check no matter what why write two? But I did stop in Wal-Mart and ordered some groceries and other stuff on my phone. They brought it out to me without having to go in! This changes everything! The thing that sucks about going to Wal Mart is actually BEING in Wal Mart. Now that part is optional! COVID is freaking terrible but some good has come of it.

The TV and Streaming thread Series 4
After numerous setbacks battle star Galactica reboot show runner leaves the project Looks like this is dead and buried or at least very close to it. And probably just as well. I had a feeling it was going to be a hot mess.

The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
I watched the replay of the Biden press conference last night. I feel sorry for that guy. It sucks to get old and he looked VERY old. You can tell his mind wandered off on him a few times. The questions with one exception were slow pitch softballs. He didn't call on anyone from a news service that might challenge him. Not sure where he is going with the "get rid of the fillibuster" thing. If they want to go back to actually making the senators and reps talk to fillibuster a bill I'm good with that. But to make all legislation simple majority forever is a HUGE mistake. Someday you will not be in power. More and more I'm convinced the 17th Amendment was a colassal mistake. It was the first step in the disenfranchisement of the state governments and is one bad act away from creating the tyranny of the majority. And do NOT f-----g blubber to me about democracy. Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.

LOL very reputable sources! Kidding of course. There are detractors to any idea and nothing works with 100% efficiency Like our old buddy JMK would say “The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else. Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influences, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist.” At the risk of repeating something for the hundred thousandth time if the world had been designed by me the government and the economy would have a few degrees of separation in between them. That’s not the world we find ourselves in. So it does no good talking about all the things that we should’ve done because we didn’t do them. MMT is what we are doing now and I am 100% convinced that the default on the rapidly expanding debt is inevitable followed by economic collapse. Probably worldwide. It’s probably bad form to use two quotes even from the same guy in the same post but what the hell here it goes “if you owe the bank 100 pounds you have a problem. If you owe the bank 1,000,000 pounds the bank has a problem“. The upshot is there’s no point in being concerned about it because there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. The only thing you can do is prepare yourself and your family for dealing with the consequences. Speaking only for myself I have done that to the best of my ability.

Tax cuts couple with spending increases are just weapons grade stupid. We have had a lot of that in the US the past 21 years. Tac cuts couples with spending reductions absolutely DO grow governemnt revenue because they are taking a smaller percentage of a bigger number. It's not politics. It's just math.

@Darkpriest & @Pidesco Most of our debt is not money spent. It's money obligated for future expenditures that does not exist. And no, adeherence to MMT (or Keynes on sterioids) where we "create" soft money is not IMO a good thing. Deficits are a big part of Keynsian economics. Use government spending to get the private sector rolling. It does work. IMO it's not the right way to go but yes, history demonstrates it does work. But... there is a comeuppance: devalued capital. Inflation. Sooner or later the bill comes due. Only with MMT they have been kicking the can down the road by using taxation not just as a revenue generating device rather to remove excess money and forestall devaluation. But.... it's coming. Tax is one of those things that just has to be done. Yes, it is theft. Money taken by threat of force. But Leviathan has a big appetite. But it is also, at some point self defeating. If my taxes go up I spend less. If I spend less businesses sell less. When they sell less the manufacturers make less. Revenue goes down all the way up the food chain. Tax as a percentage of revenue goes down to because of the drop in revenue. It's called the Laffer Curve.
