The Gamespot review
Polanski replied to sim-h's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It is clear that Kevin has actually taken the time to finish the game completely and as a result have been more plagued by the bugs, in contrast to some of the early 10/10 reviews. The minuses he points out are both completely fair. That seems to be a very fair review and 8/10 is a great score whichever way you look at it. I do not understand why the OP is complaining. -

Devs Release Party?
Polanski replied to TheSteadfast's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think there is a huge difference between a 'launch party' and 'developers going to a club drinking, because they are releasing the game'. -
It is a unhealthy trait to be so entitled, it is something that will just generally make you unhappy. They are getting a review copy, that is not meant for the public (that includes the 77.000 backers). That is an unfinished copy, we will get to play the finished game once it is released. It is done to promote the game and to increase sales. Obsidian and Paradox are fully in their own right to decide how to promote the game.

The main thing to remember is that they designed it so that the unlocked dialogue options, are not nescessarily a win-button, just something that your character has the personality to say/do. Also I believe all stats will be used in dialogue at some point, though not evenly so. It even says in the character creation which stats are for what unlocking which dialogue types. So make the character you feel most like rp'ing.

Nice namegenerator! It would be fantastic if it had a culture setting as well. It could be possible that the devs actually patch something similar in at some point, as that should be quite simple. so Aedyr, Ixamitl Plains and Old Vailia naming conventions should be covered by the link I provided. For Deadfire Archipelegola, Rauatai, The Living lands and The White that Wends, we need to get creative. Deadfire Archipelegola: The language has Inuit roots, which has some beautiful names and sounds, so we can probably steal from there. female: Panninguaq, Nivi, Pipaluk, Ivalu Male: Malik, Nuka, Pavia, Inunnguaq, Aputsiaq Furthermore the Inuit diminutive -raq and -nnguaq, which both mean "little/sweet" and are used with names from both genders, e.g. Pipalukraq and Nukaraq http://www.nordicnames.de/wiki/Greenlandic_Names Rauatai: Lots of "auauauai" I guess. Based on the Maori language, so let us look there for inspiration: Female names: Hauku, Airini, Ahorangi, Whina, Hahana Male names: Arapeta, Maaka, Matiu, Rua (seems familiar), Marama http://www.huggies.co.nz/parenting/parents-and-children/maori-baby-names (I don't feel these fit so well, you probably need to put in some more au.) The Living lands: It sounds like a very disorganised place and alot of settlers from other places, so I think names from other cultures are all good. I have not been able to establish what the pre-dominant culture is though The White that Wends: The only thing I have been able to establish is that the Pale elves and Boreal elves of the region have seperate and unique languages. And that the language of the pale elves has some roots in Eld Aedyran http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Eld_Aedyran#Eld_Aedyran The closest we get to names for the pale elves would probably be using the aedyran names or old english/Anglo-saxon names. Hope this helps a bit and that Josh or some other dev who knows might shed some more light on these unknowns.

Review Watch?
Polanski replied to Fenwick's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
caps/italics are his Best way to avoid the embargo ever I hope Obsidian sues RPS for breach of embargo. They really should not be circumventing stuff like this, positive opinions or not. A nice fat settlement should help fund PoE 2 as well. -
Just based off the cipher specific dialogue options in the beta that class has peaked my interest. Some of the most interesting developments as a result of being a cipher. Question: Does the cipher-specific dialogue also trigger if one of your companions is a cipher and your main is not? I am really torn over if I should pick a cipher or not, knowing that I will want Mother as a companion the whole way through.

The only "review" I've seen is mmrpg first impressions of which were favorable. Actual review will be out later this week. Does this one contain any spoilers? Same question goes for the other ones. If any brave souls can say it when a videos do not have any spoilers.

Keys ? When ?
Polanski replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Does anyone know how to choose between Gog and Steam? I guess it will just be when they give us the key, but want to be sure I have not missed anything. If I have multiple digital downloads (gifts for friends), do I have to choose the same medium for all of them? -
The Custom Portraits Thread
Polanski replied to Namutree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah, the non-standard fantasy races are particularly hard to find. When I tried searching for Godlike, they were either too human or too alien. I didn't bother with Orlan because I knew I would just get a bunch of furry pics. How about this for a Fire Godlike? Chandra Nalaar <3 I have been looking at mtg portraits specifically to find some portraits for the unique races of PoE. I look and post them here. -
Fanart | Custom Portraits
Polanski replied to Wespenfresser's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
All 3 of these are absolutely beautiful. In regards to the watermarks, you should do whatever you feel like, and do not get into long forum discussions about your choices. Those discussions are better to have with fellow artists in person anyway. All these pictures are clearly meant to be cropped anyway and there is intentionally left too much head-space to leave room for the watermark. (My personal preference would also be to not have the faces so centered.) So crop them! Even if they did not have the watermark you would do that anyway, too get the most out of the portrait in the game.- 164 replies

Early Backers Playing Early?
Polanski replied to kilekaldar's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Why would you think backers are already playing the game? All backers and buyers alike will be able to play the game the 26th.
