A Darcozzi would not be noticeably squishier given the same stats and gear they would 99.9% identical. One of the Shieldbearer talents give deflection to ALLIES. The other the Lay on Hands one that buffs you with deflection pre 2.0 you could use on yourself now I am not sure. Given how important accuracy is and the fact that you can stack 2 Liberating Exhortations on and net a +20 accuracy to an ally or yourself its pretty game changing. Darcozzi is the best. with the rest being more or less the same but a Shieldbearer being slightly better at number 2 and I really mean slightly...If 2.0 changed the fact that Shielding Touch does not buff the paladin with deflection (the tool tip specifically says ALLIES) then there is literally no personal defense difference in any Paladin when it comes to order talents.

weapon causes weapon name as effect
Torm51 replied to Madscientist's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Pretty sure its intended it just names the effect the name of the weapon. Been like that since day one although maybe it is a bug? Don't know what the Developers are looking for. -

Anyway to complete this quest until its fixed? -
Awesome! thanks! I appreciate all the Dev's work. You guys do a great job. Best of any game I have played in responsiveness. And I also too love Paladins lol!

thanks for the info. Looking to make a kite group. I am playing on Beta 2.0 so we will find out if they did anything for Zealous Charge or if it still has the delay. maybe using some CC ability from the start like Slicken will give it the time it needs to kick in. Puts a but if a hamper on my skirmisher squad idea...I intend to open up with Zealous Focus for my crew...fire a massive wall of lead at the enemy switch to Zealous Charge kite, CC as needed, reload or switch weapons(have a chanter with the reload buff) switch back to Zealous Focus fire again rinse repeat. Obviously you cant do that in EVERY fight so the group will have the ability to stand and fight.

Oh ok so we I cant change Eder's attributes cool. When you go to buy the reroll at the inn it does say attributes though.

I agree with my fellow Paladin vets of Raven and no bear. The best from a game play style are the Darcozzi Paladini and the Shieldbearers of St. Elcga. Darcozzi is number one because of the liberating exhortation accuracy buff that stacks. Against big bad guys it could make an immense difference. Shieldbearers also have Deflection bonuses to allies. Also if you don't like Flames of Devotion for tanks (me) and take Lay on Hands they have the Shielding Touch talent that gives your allies (before 2.0 you could also buff yourself with it not sure now.. on 2.0 as the tool tip specifically says allies....but it did before as well don't know) +8 deflection (on 1.6 it was + 10) while LoH is healing them. Also like Raven said if you want better stats and do not want to take the Untroubled Faith talent (talents are scarce so I don't recommend it) You could go either Goldpact Knights or Bleak Walkers as they do not have any penalties for being Cruel thus not incurring penalties to your defense (Faith and Conviction). Lastly, Kind Wayfarers are probably the least desirable for a Paladin tank because one order talent is heal on kill (which as a tank you wont do much of)..the other requires you to take Flames of Devotion as tank but that's OK since you can use it as a on demand heal. The issue with Sword and the Shepherd (the FoD heal) is that it scales terribly. At high levels its just a rain drop in your Endurance pool...granted at low levels its really good. Last thing I will say..other then the first mentioned order talents (and even the Shieldbearer ones are just average) most of the order talents are meh and not really worth tanking..no matter what Order you pick you can tank well with the correct stat distribution (even without one really lol even on PoTD) and talent choices. I say choose the order whose favored actions you like to respond with...Personally I hate Passionate so Darcozzi and Wayfarers are usually out for me...and Darcozzi are the best lol. My favorite are the Shieldbearers coming in first and Goldpact Knights in second (unique for a Paladin as you are a Merc!) for the RP.

The game still does not give me the option to respec attributes for my companions just skills and talents. Unless its a typo...when you go to buy the respec it does say you can redistribute attributes.

Yep pretty much its a pure tank haha. But I took your advice and got over it lets see how it goes. Trying out the 2.0 Beta. Maxed Resolve and took 14 Con the rest into Int. The hybrid seems cool but the way the Paladin plays it just isn't going to happen. Thanks for the help guys. PS Nobear I always enjoy our Paladin discussions hah! and you remembered that I don't like Flames of Devotion on a tank! lmao! PS PS I never used growing aura cheese! I always turned my auras off when I logged off and back on when I logged in!
-
Well I thought you meant Resolve wasn't worth it anymore if you aren't soloing cause 8-9 Deflection is no big deal. So I was thinking if just leaving resolve at 10 and just take Deflection from shields, talents and faith and Conviction. I mean 10 Def against regular bad guys is no big deal cause they die fast and the big bad guys who matter will now hit you anyway since accuracy is up and you can't get Def high enough to avoid them.
-
Agree with you just putting 10 points/ minimal points into resolve as a tank seemed weird. You get good Will Def from it but with Righteous Soul that becomes a bit less important and you can get that from Int instead which will give you better buffs, auras and heals...might be the way to go. I think you are right though. If you were referring to the Defender nerf well you lose deflection now :-/ still you are right it is not game breaking. PS Have they changed engagement and made it more important or is it still crappy.
-
How much is too much? I am specifically talking about Fighter and Paladin. With the deflection nerf (ouch Defender got it hard) getting def into the high 160s and 170s will be difficult or maybe impossible with certain set ups. Also Con has been buffed to 5% per point. I figure since we will be getting hit more tanks will need more Stam and Health. Am I wrong? Am I being ridiculous by going for an 18 Con on a Paladin? (non solo). Those big beefy bosses will definitely hit us much harder. They will also be immune to some CCs correct? So they will have MORE up time on tanks...Dragons are scaring the crap out of me lol...as they should! I like it.

not a bad build I would just be worried about being interrupted a lot in melee with a low concentration and not hitting too quickly. But hey my original build had a 10 Res. I was thinking of going the retaliation route and just main tanking. My original idea seems to be a sub par damage dealer and tank....not really providing much.
-
If you keep PE at 10 in 2.0, your offense is pretty much exactly what it would have been in 1.06, so hardly screwed. For pure DPS might is still better for everyone who lacks massive +% damage bonuses, this was shown ages ago when accuracy was based on Dex. I am bored at work and was thinking exactly that. 1h +Shield and Retaliate. Stats though I am having trouble. Obviously I cant stack Deflection anymore so I will be getting hit more. I am thinking of maxing res and getting a high Con since the HP per point was buffed and I am going to get hit more..
-
I agree with you Paladin will never be an offensive powerhouse but aren't the heaviest hitters in the game lacking in Aoe as well? or am I missing something? Rogue and Ranger don't have very good AoE but they can brutalize enemies. Maybe my hybrid/offtank type with a Paladin isn't possible. You need too many stats I think..either go offense or defense.
-
So I was thinking of building my Paladin as an Off Tank that hits hard when he hits but also supports the group. Pretty much all of my other Paladins have been main tanks who are offensively worthless. So what should my stats look like? as good as Per is now I still cant manage to find room for it... I was thinking something like (I really don't min/max to the fullest) Might 16 (good damage and heals) Con 16 (much lower deflection with 2hander and no resolve so I need HP to stay alive in melee longer) Dex 10 Int 16 (longer lasting support abilities and larger ZF) Per 10 Res 10 What do you guys think?
