I am not talking about technological progress, material wealth or political stability (which are all much better of course). I am talking about values. Narcissism, indulgence and hedonism are celebrated as virtues. How to you measure hedonism, exactly? I can point to clear gains in the rights of minorities and drastically better crime rates across the country, and you are talking about the feelz.
