Price Changes Coming to the Mobile Version of Pathfinder Adventures!

Well met, Adventurers!

As we mentioned in an earlier post, pricing changes are coming to our store. Why did we decide to make these changes? Several reasons: first, and most importantly, we got feedback from our players (both directly through comments and through watching what is and is not actually being bought), about what items they wanted to see at what pricing. We listened to these comments and made changes we think make sense, while still making business sense for the product.

Second, as you know, we recently added new content to the game and will be adding more in the future, and this new pricing system works better with the new content. It doesn’t make any sense to charge more for a bundle, for example, than it costs to purchase the items in that bundle individually.

Hopefully, you will agree that the new pricing system is much more logical and equitable. Chests are now a bit easier to get with in-game gold, and just about everything else that had been purchasable with real-world money has been made cheaper, bundled together in a single-priced package, or both.

For those of you who already own some or all of the content that has undergone a price change you will not lose your content. Nothing will change, you can keep right on smashing goblins and seeking treasure cards as you did. This change only affects future purchases.

The full list of price changes is below. If you have any questions or feedback for us, please talk to us on our official forums.

And now to take down the Runelords!

6 Treasure Chests for 5000 Gold?  Are you sure that's correct, since one can buy 1 Treasure Chest for only 500 gold?  Buying six of those would cost only 3000 Gold.

The blog is incorrect. It's actually 2500 gold.

Sorry guys but it made me very unhappy. I planned to buy the stuff with my gold, now i cannot go on the story with different chars, neither get the story rolling on. I planned to buy goblins by the time i finish the regular story, but now i refuse to buy anything. Thanks for ruining fun.

I made this account for exactly one reason: to say "Wow, you just totally ruined your game!"

I was actually really looking forward to buying the next adventure this weekend. But now you want me to pay actual money? Uh, no, I only spend money on real games, not mobile time wasters.

I can't even buy characters with gold anymore! Can't buy adventures or characters: gold is now effectively worthless. With gold becoming worthless your replay value is totally gone. There's no way I'm going to pay money for a game that I will play through exactly once, at normal difficulty, and then delete forever. Rewards for playing at higher difficulty are no longer worth the time investment; honestly, saving up enough gold for the next adventure or character was kind of the only reason I was still putting in the time. I feel really bad for anyone who actually bought gold, whom you've just essentially robbed!

If you put gold costs for characters and adventures back in, there's a chance I'll come back, but honestly I'm not going to pay that close attention, because it's just not worth my time. I'm sure you won't care, because you weren't getting any money from me anyway, and that's obviously all you care about, so basically, this is Peace Out.

Money funds development, developers create content.  The more people that opt out of that loop, the better the chance that the game dies a quiet death.

Without even forcing users to watch annoying ads, it was fairly generous of Obsidian to have let almost all the mobile content be unlocked for free.  Try not to pretend that anyone did the developers a favor by doing so.

Sooo.. i paid for getting the daily gold feature. Now i get 200 gold per day for a month..... but... what exactly am i supposed to do with my gold now?
Two thumbs up for whoever thougt "Hey, if we remove the ingame currency, players will spend real money!"

And guess what? You're right. But not if that's the only way to play the game.

I played the game over and over for buying some more chars and adventures with gold. Then i already planned to buy the addon campaigns with real money because i like the game. But that's gone now? I hope someone will reconsider this and maybe ask someone from marketing before ruining their own game.

Developers,

This transition wasn't handled well at all. You can still fix this for your current users. Give one last option to spend gold. Trust me, it will be worth it to keep your loyal users and get them to spend $ on new future content.

So yeah, Obisidian found this wasn't profitable so they flat out stole money from anyone who'd bought gold. I'm a bit behind on their products but suffice to say I'll never be getting Tyranny, or any newly released content post Pillars of Eternity 2.
