It's not a big deal for most martial classes because they have hardly options - but on magic class this is really annoying... for example chanters where you're just given the most useless phrase/options.....so it would be really nice if i could actually choose which one i want...

You can retrain characters at an inn if you want full control.

Even the starting abilities? When I tried respecing at a vendor, my main character couldn't change the first ability. Maybe it only applies to the other characters though..

No you can't change their starting ability even after a respec, you're right... But to be honest, does it really matter? By late game you're pack of demi-gods anyway. Once ability choice doesn't affect all that much.

You'll take those starting abilities and ****ty attribute scores and like them!

Popular defenses of this stupid practice:

1) Stop acting so entitled, just enjoy the game!

2) The companions are higher level than custom ones so it's ok!

3) Just use mods!

4) Just use console commands, achievements don't matter!

5) Developer choices matter more than your gaming experience!

6) You might choose attributes/abilities that don't fit the character!

7) I can complete the game on POTD without optimized attributes/abilities!

And many more

i just dont like having abilities picked for me i don't want and will never use while on the same level there are some i like - as said, its no big deal for martial classes where often you kinda have to pick those because there is nothing else there - but for chanter etc. you have lots of options...

It doesn't really help anyone to strawman people's arguments. I may even agree with you, but this isn't helpful feedback.
