Reposter Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Hi guys, Its been a while since I played tabletop D&D but I was wondering which edition is Deadfire based on?
pstone Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 (edited) Pillars of Eternity doesn't use the D&D ruleset (nor any of the D&D settings). But if you are familiar with D&D, you will probably feel at home fast with the Pillars ruleset. Edited May 8, 2018 by pstone 2
Wormerine Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 PoE1 is inspired by Infinity Games, which were isometric real time interpretations of 2nd and 3nd D&D. However, Deadfire uses its own ruleset, adjusted to be better suited to cRPG. A lot of mechanics should be familiar, but how they work and are calculated will be different. Especially in Deadfire, which rather than “inspired by Infinity Games” I would describe as a “sequel improving upon a game which was inspired by IE games”. 1
Reposter Posted May 8, 2018 Author Posted May 8, 2018 Ok, thanks for the info. Does the Steam version come with a game manual explaining the rules? Or is there some other wiki or website that explains Deadfire's rule set?
Sedrefilos Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Here https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Official_Pillars_of_Eternity_WikiAlthough its easier to google first then come to forums. Also the manual is not needed that much since the game has tutorials and tooltips. In addition, Youtube provides a plethora of videos explaining mechanics and everything else. Welcome to 2018 friend! 1
Ganrich Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 In game certain keywords will have hyperlinks to explain things as well, and this shoupd cover most game mechanics. There is a good bit of the hyperlink stuff in the character creation.
JerekKruger Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 I believe it's based on D&D8.5 but I might be mistaken. 1
