Freelancer167 Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Hello, I noticed that I can generate a Steam (or GOG) key in my Obsidian account now. Should I do it now or should I do it just before launch? Thanks!
bleedthefreak Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 What do you believe the benefits of waiting to be?
Daled Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Go with it! It's refreshing to redeem backed games 2
Freelancer167 Posted April 11, 2018 Author Posted April 11, 2018 Thanks ... just wanna make sure there is no problem because I haven't tried pre-ordering a Steam game before. 1
Ethics Gradient Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Yeah. There's no reason not to. Whether you go GOG or Steam, redeeming your key will add the appropriate "Fig Backer Edition" of Deadfire to your account.
Silent Winter Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 The only reason to wait would be if you can't decide between gog or steam. If you're going "ummm....ahhh...hmmmm" then sleep on it. Otherwise it's nice to see the game on your digital shelf (I assume steam has the same sort of thing as gog there), even if you can't DL it yet. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ *Casts Nature's Terror* , *Casts Firebug* , *Casts Rot-Skulls* , *Casts Garden of Life* *Spirit-shifts to cat form*
Karkarov Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 At this point I would advise anyone who hasn't redeemed to redeem on steam unless they are die hard anti DRM. Why? Because you can't use the codes in the scavenger hunt unless you are on steam, GoG users won't get it apparently. 2

Where did you read that gog users won't get them? 1 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ *Casts Nature's Terror* , *Casts Firebug* , *Casts Rot-Skulls* , *Casts Garden of Life* *Spirit-shifts to cat form*

The exact quote from Obsidian is "However, we're looking into what we can do for GOG users and hope to have something soon!" 3
Wormerine Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 So yes, there is reason to way, unless you know if you want steam. I am a gog person, so in your place I would wait until they find a way to connect scavenger hunt with gog. If they won’t do it I would certainly go for steam. There are benefits to procrastinating after all.
Freelancer167 Posted April 12, 2018 Author Posted April 12, 2018 Well I have already decided to use Steam, got the key and added to my library, thanks all. 1
Karkarov Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 (edited) Someone in another thread ( https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/96804-deadfire-scavenger-hunt/ ) said that gog was being worked on. Where did you read that gog users won't get them? "Being worked on" and "We have a solution" are very different statements. At this time, regardless of what Obsidian is trying to do, only Steam is getting the items from the scavenger hunt. So unless you are die hard anti DRM/anti steam, there is really no incentive to wait around and see if Obsidian can do something for GoG. Ethics Gradient Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 "Redeem on steam, double dip on gog." Why buy one copy when you can have two for twice the price!! 3
