Could we start thread about enjoyable games? Which games were enjoyment for you?

I must say that for me those were Mages of Mystralia and Epistory - The Typing Chronicles (besides usual good rpg like BG2 and D:OS2, we are all fans of rpgs, no?)

I'm an rpg fan, pillars is my favorite game but my main genres are third person action, 2D platformers and fighting games :)

It's hard to say. There are so many games I played multiple times, but most of them I'd never be able to enjoy again.

Unreal Tournament

Team Fortress 2

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Warhammer 40K Dawn of War

Myth 2: Soulblighter

Age of Empires 2

Shadow of the Colossus

Zelda: A Link to the Past

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Max Payne

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2

Planescape Torment

Witcher 1

Final Fantasy X

Gabriel Knight 1 and 3

Broken Sword 1 and 2

Metal Slug 1

Guilty Gear XX Reload: Midnight Carnival

Soul Calibur 2

IL2: Sturmovik

Wing Commander V

A lot of these were the best in genre, but they also came at the right time, when my enthusiasm re gaming was at it's peak.

Going by hours spent Team Fortress 2 probably has more than all the rest combined, but that's a different beast.

If I had to shortlist the most remarkable experiences of all time that would probably be Baldur's Gate 2, Torment, Alpha Centauri, Homeworld and Shadow of the Colossus.

I like games with a lot of organizational and collection "busy work" and memorable characters/party members + fun combat (note: fun doesn't always mean difficult). I like singleplayer/offline option. For "story" rpg's I vastly prefer a "full party" vs. a lone protagonist.

I gravitate towards more combat-heavy titles plus at least partially or pseudo open-world party-rpg's (eg. exploration is a biggie for me), as well as city-builder/RTS element types and survival-build-sandbox. I used to like Diablo/clones but I think I'm pretty tired of that subgenre, can't seem to get into them for long anymore.

Dungeon Keeper 1, Caesar 3 and other old Impressions titles, Baldurs Gate 1, Might and Magic series, KOTOR2, Fallout:NV, Borderlands series, 7 Days to Die and recently FF-XV would be primary examples.

Many newer titles have little to no appeal to me at all these days, for whatever reasons. If I find one I do like I play it for months/years and have no idea what's going on in gaming news outside of that, except for whatever news tidbits I read on forums like this one. :p

Cities Skylines is one, though I wish I could create a proper ghetto.

Games that offer a unique story and a memorable cast of characters.

I also like good racing/puzzle/platformer games.

Games that come to mind: Legend of Zelda series, Metal Gears series, Fallout, Arcanum, Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, Planescape: Torment, Mario games and etc.

Same here. The gaming experience has become very standardized, and even though there are now more games then there ever were, by a wide margin, much of it consists of small improvements of formulas that sell well. Unfortunately, most of these are now dreadfully boring if you've been in the hobby for a while, since you've seen them many times before.

These days I scan the reviews on occasion and if something gets uniformly high scores I take a peek to see what it is. Most of the time, it's the usual AAA suspects or a derivative, so I just ignore them.

The fact is, most of the genres that I used to enjoy are either gone or past their prime. I miss a good simulator, an RTS, and a good management game - in the vein Bullfrog used to make. Adventure games are alive and kicking, but it's been a long time since one came out with a genuinely good story, and well designed puzzles, like Jane Jensen used to do.
