Nanawatzin Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 (edited) I have a question for those of you who have the access to the beta of the game. I'm planning to play as my ranger from PoE1 but I also decided that it would be fun to multiclass him with a priest (I'm mostly playing for story and relations with companions, but the mechanics are also used by me during the game etc.). My question is - do you think that this is a good combination? If yes - why, if not - then why should I stop thinking about it? ^^' Also bonus question - is it worth to play as a druid/chanter or maybe solo druid will be stronger/better? Thank you for your time and potential answers! :3 (Also so sorry if my English is bad - it's not my native language.) Edited February 7, 2018 by Nanawatzin
dunehunter Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 To the question 1, I think it depends on if your ranger using a bow or a gun, or even a melee ranger? Priest of Magran can summon spiritual pistol which is pretty powerful. Other priests can only summon rod or melee weapon. If u plan to add more support element to your ranger, priest might be good, but imo chanter or Paladin might b a better combo choice. In current beta, IMO single class caster is stronger than multi class ones. But u can do a Shifter/Soulblade and both class is very strong on it own. 1

I was planning a ranger/priest combo mostly 'cause I don't think that I will have Xoti with me in my first playthrough (planning to get old pals + Tekehu). And in PoE1 my ranger is using crossbows/arbalests. I just don't know which priest will be a best add-on and which will be better to pick "lore wise" after the first game (I chose Rymrgand's blessing - my OC is a pale elf - and as far as I know, you're not able to be a priest of Rymrgand, which is sad). The second one - I made a mistake and edited that before you answered - I was thinking about druid/chanter multiclass. Edited February 7, 2018 by Nanawatzin
NerdCommando Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Ranger is more of a tanky character so Wael should be the best priestly choice for him - he will be holding real good under the Arcane Veil while dealing some ok-ish damage with his Arbalest (which is probably the best ranged weapon right now). Druids atm are kinda bad at everything but healing so druid/chanter mix is definitely a good idea, especially given how strong chanters are. That will make a very strong supportive character. 2

Thanks a lot! I was thinking about Wael as a potential patron for my potential ranger/priest combo. I hope that his healing ability will not be decreased significantly. :3 To be fair - I didn't knew that druids are a good healers. I mean, I've never played one long before to observe that. ^^'
Nanawatzin Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 If anyone else have some wisdom to share - I would gladly take it. :3
Osvir Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) I'm testing it out, but I believe Ghost Heart/Wael to be a pretty interesting concept, with Rod Weapon Proficiency (Wael has Rod Spiritual Weapon), or Magran (Pistol Spiritual Weapon, shorter range). Also testing out Druid/Chanter (Never tried), whilst I'm at it. Will update shortly.Druid is very versatile in many ways, and your choices will matter. For instance, Lifegiver is a great Healing sub-class, and Fury is a good offensive caster sub-class, and if you wish to be melee, you have Shifter sub-class.With Melee, you'd probably want a Shifter/Trobadour, or at range it'd be a Fury/Trobadour.EDIT:Okay, Druid/Chanter (the one I made) wasn't that strong in the Records Tab on the Character Sheet, but during the encounter it was a really strong summoner that contributed a lot.The Ghost Heart of Wael (if I can call it that) was insane. This is damage output from two encounters.- Total Damage 2252.2- Target Damage: 274.4- Hits: 17- Crits: 0I used Holy Power, Rod Proficiency, Warbow Proficiency. Just self-buff and then unleash Auto-Attack. Marked Prey, Wounding Shot etc. etc. Kablamo! It is quite significant. Edited February 10, 2018 by Osvir 1

Osvir Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) Yeah I was very surprised when I open the character sheet. It was like "Woah! All this? o.o"Here's the party I used (I removed Sorceror and Battlemage though), but you can also compare damage output.Fighter/Paladin (Crusader) Also a Battlemage statistics (not the same encounter as the Crusader or the Ghost Heart) Fighter/Wizard (Battlemage) Edited February 10, 2018 by Osvir
Nanawatzin Posted February 17, 2018 Author Posted February 17, 2018 Anyone else can support the idea of Ghost Heart/Pirest of Wael combo for my ranger/priest OC in upcoming game? :3
Boeroer Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Not really - but I don't oppose it either. I mean the Ghost Heart part. It doesn't add anything exciting to be honest (at least for me). Ranger + Blast (rod) in general is an interesting combo because of how Blast + Driving Flight works at the moment. Every AoE hit will be getting a second hit in the current beta. And since Wael's rod does +50% lash damage also with Blast, Ranger/Wael is pretty cool. Also because Wounding Shot + Blast is pretty awesome (if it stil works like this - it does with rogues' afflicitions so I guess it still works with Wounding Shot as well). My pick would be vanilla ranger or Sharpshooter because the extra PEN (or ACC) is pretty useful with rod and Blast and you'd have a permanent pet that doesn't need summoning (costs time and - even more importantly - bond points). Nanawatzin Posted February 17, 2018 Author Posted February 17, 2018 Well I guessed that the summoning of the animal spirit will cost bond points. I chose this one subclass mostly for the fluff. It would play nicely with the whole concept of my OC. And I'm not the one who's playing cRPGs just to have the most powerfull character who will deal tons and tons of dmg (if I wanted that I would probably play some MMO). I thank you for your answer, it was enlightening. And I can see why you think the Ghost Heart is not a perk in this combo - you're looking at this char from the mechanical point of view and I thank you for that, 'cause I would never know that. At least not until I play the game on my own. Mostly I want make na ranger/priest combo, 'cause for my completionist wt and for my main OC I'm planning to have a team of: my OC ranger/priest, Edér fighter/rogue (dunno which combo of subclasses will be better for him), Aloth pure wizard without any school if possible, Pallegina pure paladin and Tekēhu as a druid (probably shapeshifter) - dunno if multiclassing him with chanter will be usefull. Any thoughts on that? I mean not on the companions but on their class combos I've put here. :3

I remember checking wounding shot + blast in beta 2, wounding doesn’t split to blast targets so no synergy between rod and wounding shot :/
dunehunter Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Berath/Stalker would be pretty good since you can consider Lash and Wounding as two different multiplier. Berath offers a good summon weapon that gives 50% lash while wounding shot gives 60%+ wounding damage. In summary, 50 lash + 60 wounding > 50 lash + 60 lash.

mrmonocle Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 What about multiclassing fighter with rogue? Any good combos? Especially for tanking/mechanics. an unbroken / rogue plays ok with a shield. Rogues however are not too suited for a tanking combo since they gain no benefit from high resolve, if I'm correct none of rogue's skills are spell damage. I see the dreams so marvelously sad The creeks of land so solid and encrusted Where wave and tide against the shore is busted While chanting by the moonlit twilight's bed trees (of Twin Elms) could use more of Magran's touch © Durance
Nanawatzin Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 Soo if not a tank version, what about something durable during fights but still good with mechanics? I would like it to be useable as a trapfinder and lock opener but also as a decent fighter.

Blackjack/Streetfighter, get bloodied in battle and then use fast switch with 3 set of blunderbuss to do crazy burst damage.
Nanawatzin Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 Oh wow, thank you very much for the answer. I still have to think about my ranger/priest combo, but I really appreciate eveyrthing that was said in this thread. :3

Devoted/Streetfighter with the hatchet specialisation makes a good tank/DPS combo. I imagine Unbroken/Streetfighter would be good too. Riposte, powering up and reducing incoming damage as more people engage, flanking anyone they engage with. I'm definitely making Eder a fighter/rogue. Edited February 19, 2018 by CottonWolf 1
Nanawatzin Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 Yeah I'm totally up for making Edér a fighter/rogue combo. Mostly because he'll be my only rogue in the team. And thank you for your answer! :3
Nanawatzin Posted February 24, 2018 Author Posted February 24, 2018 I found out that the priest of Wael is losing access to punishment spells - wanted to ask if it is something really bad or nah? It's hard for me (as I don't have beta access) to figure out which spells for example it would be. :3
