The Obsidian Community all-time top 106 games - FULL RESULTS!

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey guys! Last month we made a poll asking the users here to share with us their favorite games, which we then used to compile a list of the top hundred games according to the Obsidian Community. The rules used to compile the following list are as follows: the participants sent in lists of 25 games with 125 points distributed amongst them as they wished; the games will be ordered first by the number of lists they've made an appearance on, and then broke down further by the number of points they've accrued. Each vote was given to individual games and not franchises or series, whilst votes for enhanced/remastered/definitive editions all counted for the main original game; on the other hand, though, individual expansion packs could be voted for independently from the main game, and would add to their own entry instead.

Here's a list of the users who've taken part in the poll:

algroth

Bartimaeus

Leferd

Raithe

Katphood

redneckdevil

Pidesco

IndiraLightfoot

eimatshya

Fenixp

ShadySands

Hurlshot

Keyrock

Tigranes

SonicMage117

evilcat

Epaminondas

Amentep

TrueNeutral

Zoraptor

Malcador

injurai

marelooke

Mamoulian War

melkathi

Jozape

Humanoid

Fiasco

ZyroMane

Huinehtar

Wormerine

Messier-31

Azdeus

blotter

FlintlockJazz

SadExchange

Though I had begun posting the results in the thread used for the poll itself, I came across an image limit per post I was previously unaware of and thus have decided to post the results separately. And so, without further ado, the RESULTS:

I'd like to congratulate you all for picking the perfect game to conclude this wonderful series by algroth! Truly, no game deserved it more than Quest 64. The thread is now done and there's nothing left to discuss, so uh, we can just, you know, close this down now. Yeah.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

O.K., so I'm starting to get the feeling that some of us should've taken the points system a little more seriously.

Dammit, Bart, you spoiled the reveal! :p

Anyhow, I've updated the results with a new batch! Obsidian makes its first appearance on the list with Tyranny, as does the all-time no. 1 game according to GlitchWave, Silent Hill 2, and *da bast game evur* according to all PS4 console plebs with Bloodborne. But truly we all know the most noteworthy and important addition is UNDERTALE. Anyhow, thoughts, opinions? Just spread the LOVE! 1_0_by_babblingfaces-dbdhcc6.png

How so? Anyhow, the higher we go in the list, the more the points will make a difference. Right now all games have been voted by only two users out of the 39 who've taken part, so plenty are bound to gather together.

Yes, I just couldn't help myself: I was so stunned and overwhelmed by literally everyone voting for Quest 64, and everyone giving it all 100 of their points on top of it! (...While, uh, apparently still scrounging up some extra points somehow for all the other games.) I'm sorry: I just had to let everyone know that their favorite game had indeed won.

I think we would've had less ties if some of us lazy folks (e.g. myself) had been more dedicated to assigning proper point values.

Nah, no worries about it. Chances are we would have had a few more ties at slightly odder intervals, but as I said, when you deal only with a combination of two numbers that naturally tend to five, you can expect a lot of ties. There'll be less the further up we go in the list.

Wait, was there a game picked by just 1 person? So far 106. is 2 voters.

Quite a few. I haven't counted all of the games on the list, but I'm quite certain at least 300 didn't make the cut, having either been voted by one person, or by 2 but not gathering enough points to crack the top 100. Once the results have been fully revealed I might post the whole raw list as I have it on my document in the thread.

I think it is pretty amazing that there are only 106 that made the cut. It means we will have some heavy hitters at the top.

We'll see! What's also pretty interesting is just how many games that are used to being found in the usual gaming mag top 20s have already made an appearance, the likes of Super Metroid, Super Mario Galaxy, Majora's Mask, Bloodborne, Silent Hill 2 and so many others. Makes you consider just how particular the tastes of this board are (being, of course, a very CRPG-dedicated crowd and so on).

Bloodborne looks pretty great. Too bad it's on a machine that I don't plan to get. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for a bad port in 5 years.

Silent Hill 2 is a great game, and somehow I expected X-Com Enemy Unknown to get a higher score.
