Guard Dog Posted October 22, 2017 Author Posted October 22, 2017 Good game tonight. I think Houston matches up well against LA. Looking forward to a good series. 1 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Agiel Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 (edited) My dad is a proud Angeleno with a burning hot hatred for the Yankees and all things New York (the way he described his brief stay in the city makes me believe his experience was akin to that of Homer Simpson's), so unfortunately for him he won't be seeing his dream 7th World Series game of them shutting down the Yankees called by Vin Scully. Edited October 22, 2017 by Agiel 1 Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.” -Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>> Quote "The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete." -Rod Serling
Guard Dog Posted October 26, 2017 Author Posted October 26, 2017 Amazing game last night. Verlander was dealing a no hitter into the 5th, three big comebacks and a dramatic extra innings finsh. Game 1 was sort of dull. Game 2 anything but. 1 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Hurlshort Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 I was on the edge of my seat for the last hour. Crazy game.
Guard Dog Posted October 26, 2017 Author Posted October 26, 2017 There have been a lot of managerial firings that made no sense. Although the story seems a bit vague, it may have been partly his choice as well after what he said about family.

Hurlshort Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 (edited) Crazy that he did something similar for the Giant's in 2010. Some guys are just clutch. Edited October 26, 2017 by Hurlshot 1
Guard Dog Posted October 28, 2017 Author Posted October 28, 2017 Great game last night. The Astros almost blew it open with a grand salami in the 7th. Another two feet and it would have been in the bullpen. Nice job by Pea**** in his longest outing of the season. Of course the downside is they have likely lost him until game 6, if there is one. Leferd Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Oh, have I mentioned the balls are juiced? https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/29/world-series-baseballs-leather-justin-verlander-yu-darvish-ken-giles-kenley-jansen 1 "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle
Hurlshort Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Yep. Are they going to put an asterisk next to this season?
Guard Dog Posted October 29, 2017 Author Posted October 29, 2017 Don't know about the balls but the ratings are juiced. Game 4 was the higest rated WS game in 5 years. WS ratings over the first four games are the highest since 2014. "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Guard Dog Posted October 29, 2017 Author Posted October 29, 2017 It's about time: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/nationals-hire-dave-martinez-as-new-manager-report-says/ar-AAucbyu?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp I've always like Dave Martinez. He was the Rays bench coach for many years. Several teams have flirted with him. About time one married him. Leferd Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Juiced balls aside, I wanna be Jose Altuve when I grow up. Oh, and the balls are juiced. Guard Dog Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 Game 7 ?! "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Hurlshort Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Bummed that the Astros couldn't get to Rich Hill. This figures to be a much tougher match up, but who knows what will happen in this crazy series?
Guard Dog Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 The Dodgers bullpen is spent. They are going to need Yu to go at least 6 and then maybe have Kershaw come in. If the Astros can hit Darvish they have a real good chance tonight. "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Guard Dog Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 The last time the Dodgers played a WS game 7 was 1965. Hurlshort Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Kind of prophetic that they went with a space theme and now the next game 7 is them playing the Astros.
Guard Dog Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 In '65 project Gemini was big news and the Twins were i the WS. It just works as a space theme. 1 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Guard Dog Posted November 2, 2017 Author Posted November 2, 2017 Darvish does not have it tonight. "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Hurlshort Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Darvish does not have it tonight. That's an understatement. Into the bullpen now for both squads. I hope Houston stays ahead, but I'm not betting on anything in this game.
