Guard Dog
I just did some sniffing on Baseball Almanac On this day in 1927 Base Ruth had 21 HR On this day in 1961 Roger Maris had 21 HR On this day in 2017 Aaron Judge has 22 HR. Not to jinx anything here but.... But before we get too excited on this day in 2001 Barry Bonds had 33. Better pick up the pace there Judge! Guard Dog
In case anyone wonders why the Mets are a bloody mess? They are still paying Bobby Bonilla. 54 years old, hasn't played an inning in 16 seasons. Thry are still paying him $1.2M a year. Noah Syndergaard, their star pitcher, is only getting half that much. In other news Tim Tebow has been promoted to the Mets. The St. Lucie Mets where he's hitting .455 with 2 HRs and made this catch last night: http://www.milb.com/r/video?content_id=1557765683&topic_id=&sid=milb&tcid=vpp_copy_1557765683&v=3 And the Rays are now in possession of the 2nd AL Wildcard. Guard Dog
Kato Kaelin won the 50-50 raffle at the Brewers game in Miller Park yesterday. Guard Dog
Think you had a bad day yesterday? Jon Lester had a worse one. He didn't even get out of the first inning. He threw 59 pitches, recorded 2 outs, gave up six hits, ten runs, three walks and no strikeouts. You know your day is going to suck when the other teams #2 hitter hits a grand slam in the FIRST INNING! Think about that for a moment. Pittsburgh beat Chicago 14-3. And no that wasn't the Steelers playing the Bears. I thought this was cool. After the Rays beat the Red Sox 5-3, to take 3 out of 4 and pull into a positional tie with the Yankees for 2nd place, Red Sox RF Mookie Betts offered to fly Rays pitcher Chris Archer to Miami for the All Star Game in his own airplane. The rub there is Betts hit a solo HR off Arch to lead off the 1st Inning. http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2017/07/10/241513608 Giancarlo Stanton hits four HR in three nights and the Marlins swept the Giant in SF. Very quietly the Fabulous Fighting Fish of Florida have been creeping back into this thing. They are 5 games on the wrong side of .500 still and 9 games back from a WC but if they keep scoring enough runs to apologize for their awful pitching it's not impossible they could make some noise. Unless of course there is a fire sale. The sons of Dante Bichette and Vlad Guerrero were on the field today for the Futures Game if feels like the 90's are here again! http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2017/07/09/241450614/guerrero-bichette-gordon-more-shine-in-futures-game Edited July 10, 2017 by Guard Dog "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell

Guard Dog
Jose Quintana made his debut for the Cubs last night by striking out 12 and getting a W. I guess it's pretty rare for a player to be traded and not even need to find a new place to live. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/242472006/jose-quintana-impresses-teammates-in-debut/?topicId=27118122 Oakland traded Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madsen to the Nats for two of their top 10 prospects and someone I've never heard of: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/242442972/nationals-acquire-doolittle-madson-from-as/ . Washington has the worst bullpen ERA in the league and that will be a problem come October. Giancarlo Stanton ALMOST save a home run. But lost his glove in the process: http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2017/07/16/242456952 RHP Stacey Piagno got a W in her first start for the indy league Sonoma Stompers. Guard Dog
David Price is on the DL, Boston has lost 6 of their last 10 games and the now resurgent Yankees are in first. The Rays traded away some valuable prospects and a SP for bullpen and infield help and have now lost eight of their last 10 games to fall out of WC contentions. Grrrr! Kansas City found their ju-ju and have made the AL central a three horse race with the Twins & Indians. AL West? Move along Son, nothing to see here. The Astros are dominating. NL East? Ditto. The Nats are alread thinkng of a magic number and it ain't even august yet. The Cubs came back from whatever vacation they were on and assumes control of the NL Central. Milwuakee is still scrapping but sigs of a fade are there. The NL West has been pretty much over since May. The Dodgers are unbeatable. Ditto the NL Wild card. Arizona & Colorado have that in hand. Oh yeah... Tim Tebow's slash line in the FSL: 303/.389/.495 with an .884 OPS and 5 HR. OK, so I was wrong. He can play. Guard Dog
I watched the Giants/Dodgers game last night. I was pulling for the Giants because Bumgarner was pitching. And he was dealing. Guard Dog
Wow, lot of action at the Trade Deadline today. Yu Darvish, Tony Watson, and Tony Cingrani all to the Dodgers. Sonny Gray to the Yankees on top of their other moves. The Rays, Indians, Orioles, and Mets all made moves. Lots of minor leaguers changing teams tomorrow. The Rays were beatn like a drum by the Astros last night but there was one bit of humor: http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2017/07/31/245624132/chris-archer-sends-orbit-declaration-of-unfriendliness 1 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
