Heals stopped working, entire game super buggy

Question

Before I get to the main problem, lets cover some basic grounds

#1 I have played a number of your games but this is the only 1 I play on my phone.  It is by far, in my experience, your most unstable.

#2 This game has hundreds of bugs.  I don't think I have played a single session that didn't have some king of bug

#3  This game often freezes completely and I must close it out and restart it and/or reboot my phone to try to get it to even move.

#4  I never wanted to make a sign on on your forums.  I just wanted to report bugs, lots before, but there is absolutely no easy straightforward way to do so on the internet.  Maybe there is a way through my phone, but I doubt it.  I don't like writing on the phone for good reason, easy to type on a computer...but why do I need to give you my email address etc. etc???  Why isn't there a place to simply submit bugs?  Give me a break, this game has hundreds of bugs- and no way to report so NO WONDER ITS COMPLETELY UNSTABLE

#5 I play the game because its fun and interesting but your delivery is crap.  It's like a really good soup served at a restaurant filled with roaches and filth and sometimes there is a fly floating in your soup.  Let's fix the bugs before making more content PLEASE.  Don't be Ubisoft.

 

 

THE BIG BUG-

 

Sporatically heals stop working completely.  Cure, Mass cure, major cure, healing staff, shaman ally.  None of them heal.  THey get used, ask for recharge check or get recharged/discarded etc.- but cards are NEVER moved from discard to the deck.

This bug SUCKS>  Makes you lose completely if you were using any kind of healing as your strategy for that quest.  THis is not cool.  ESPECIALLY with quests that make you Banish cards to close and try to win....

 

This is like bugs that tweak or screw with checks, crashing on checks that get made, making you take them again.  There are a few bugs that work in the players favor, but most like this one break the game and make you lose.

 

It's really really really annoying.  Worst case scenario I try to get my money back...which I can't,....but if the game constantly bugs and crashes and has bugs that make you lose...I can at least complain etc.  Most likely I just quit...

 

OR you guys could pull your heads out of your butt and work on the bugs NOT MORE CONTENT>  Fix the unstability PLEASE.  This game is hanging on by a thread in terms of stability.  FIX IT.  This bug at least, it is a complete game killer.

We feel your pain, you are not alone. I certainly agree with you that the number one ask I have of OBS is "fix bugs, don't add features", because every new feature added has significant gameplay-affecting bugs, contributing to a net increase in bugs with every patch.

 

The intermittent bug with all forms of Healing has already been reported several times http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/89942-1143-lini-cant-heal-herself/ but OBS have not acknowledged that post yet (they are very, very slow to respond so older reports get overlooked, hopefully this will bump the issue). I don't know what the trigger is, so I can't suggest a workaround. It's just something we have to live with until OBS can repro it and it gets to the top of the heap in a couple of patches time (at best).

Hello, sorry you're encountering the bug and alas I can't help you with it.

 

However to help the developers, can you provide all of the general information and any gameplay information you think is relevant -

 

General (For all issues)

  • What device type are you on? Android/iPad, etc.
  • What version of the OS are you running? Android 4.4, iOS 9.3, etc.
  • What model is the device? Galaxy Tab 3, iPad Mini 4, etc.
  • What is your PFID#? (Located in the settings menu)

Gameplay

  • Is pass & play on?  Is permadeath on?
  • Tutorial, Story Mode, or Quest Mode? (If not quest mode, did you recently enter it?)
  • Characters in Party
  • Location of each character
  • Turn Order
  • Scenario & Scenario Difficulty.  If on non-normal difficulties, which wildcard powers are in play?
  • What card was encountered when the issue occurred? (Or check, or card just played, etc)
  • Did the issue occur on the first explore or a subsequent explore?  If subsequent, what card did you last encounter?  What was its resolution? (IE, you just encountered an enchanter and failed the check, and on an additional explore you ran into a blessing of the gods but didn't auto acquire it)
  • Did other characters aid the check?  What did they use to aid it?
  • Was the encounter a Horde? (Skeleton Horde, Goblin Raid, Zombie Nest, Zombie Horde, Garrison Location Power w/ multiple characters, Henchmen encounter in Black Fang w/ multiple characters)

This may help the developers to identify the problem when they log this problem.

Also if the dev can not reproduce the problem, it requires very exact description of the bug, so that They have a slim change to make it happen in their own tests. It is allmost impossible to fix something that does not ever happen... there has been some special cases Also in these forums when some bugs vere impossible to reproduce by dev team. In those cases the save file is essentially important along the situation where, when, how the bug happens. There Are so Many different devices around that it is impossible to test them all.

 

But, yeah this is not as fast as we can hope, but only few of the team of 10 actually make the code, so all fixes takes a lot of time. It seems that after patch it take one month to two to fix the new bug and then some weeks to make new scenarios and other content and the start new cycle.

With this small team, I don't think that we can Expect much more speed to these. Same people make new content, read these forums for the new bugs and fix them, test the fix and so on... time consuming task indeed!

I did try today Many types of healing stuff and all of them worked like charmed... cure, major cure, healing staff etc...

So there has be spesific reason to your problems and that needs a lot more info than you give in your bug report.

 

I actually did not have a single bug today... I am very pleased how well the game behaved today. So it is definitely getting better. No problems with harpyas or even some other not so well behawed minions.

 

So there definitely is something strange in the combination that your croup fall in that healing matter. More info would definitely help.

Dude, if you played and you didn't have a bug: you weren't looking. Either that, or you just filtered out the ones that you're used to so you "didn't have any new bugs". I have never played PACG and not noticed a bug - either new, or "known issue". You can perhaps tell this from the number of bugs that I post. Seriously, I know that you love OBS and PACG, but you've got to be honest: we're still in an extended beta and we're nowhere near ZBB. I worked in one of the largest software companies in the world, I know what a finished or near-finished product looks like and this ain't it. (Doesn't mean that I don't love the game: I wouldn't put in so many hours both on the game and in these forums and I wouldn't get so cross/frustrated if I thought that it was an unredeemable crock of the proverbial)

I know that there Are bugs In there, i just not happened to meet them yesterday. I have played this game when it was impossible not to meet them. But there is still a long way to go untill this is ready, if ever...

 

And shiffd problem with healing is definitely a bug, but because it is not easy to replicate, it may be hard to fix. So it is important to track down the exact combinations of things that caused that bug.

The problem is that it's an intermittent bug - one that doesn't happen every game and one that can switch states during a game. I find it hard to maintain a buffer of the last two/three turns in my head so that when a bug like this triggers I am able to stop and document things. Rest assured that I am trying to track down the issue. When (if ever) I have it nailed I'll report back.

This triggered again for me today

 

Device: BlueStacks emulator

OS: Android 5.1

PACG build: 1.1.5

 

Pass & Play: OFF

Permadeath: OFF

Mode: Story

Party Members: Seoni, Lem, Harsk, Lini, Amiri

Turn Order: per party

Scenario: either 4.1 or 4.2 I can't remember

Difficulty: Legendary

Wildcards: can't remember

Location: nope, not that one either

Trigger: Mass Cure

 

Lem and Amiri were in the same location but it was Harsk's turn. Lem cast Mass Cure to Heal Amiri, which worked, but it didn't heal Lem.

 

So my guess is that one of the triggers is an off-turn Cure. (A later Major Cure by Lini on herself on her turn did work OK)

I feel like i know what you're saying about the cure part not working. I have had this happen a few times prior to this update. Like with the Father Zantus card, which also heals, being reported as not working. I know there were posts with other people claiming that it doesn't work and i just had to test it myself. But it works so i have no idea what that poster is talking about. But recently, about a week before the new update I encountered the healing bug myself (including zantus) and was able to replicate it a few times. I couldn't explain why it happened but it just seemed to happen with extended gameplay. The longer i play without stopping the more likely it is that the heal bug will be triggered. I can't give you a play by play of what happened previously because there's no way i can remember what i did earlier.

I can't give you a fix and this post may have seemed irrelevant to you but I tried to give some information about the bug. I think, don't take my word for it, restarting the app "could" fix this but i could be wrong.

Ok. So this Sounds similar like bleeding memory issue, when you keep playing a long time the memory will fill up and cause havok. Good find! I seldom play long time in the same seeting, so it can explain why I don't get this bug.

 

The problem with spells used off turn has plaqued this game for a long time. Causing skipping character turn etc. So it is an old enemy, but that bug by playing a long time is something new, or it is something that has not caught attention untill now. Maybe a combination of these two or only the degration by time effect?

 

Hopefully this gives devs some qlue what is going on.

Yeah, I just start the last scenario of deck 5 and heals no longer work. Originally I thought it was the new staff I just got, Staff of Hungry Shadows. Since I hadn't noticed this behavior before I had the SoHS in my deck and tried to use it, maybe it's related. I don't know.

 

Anyway, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet.

 

EDIT: I had to leave the game and when I came back I went to the vault and went back into the game and heals work again. I know it sucks to have to do it, but it's a better brand of sucking than having no heals.

Interesting so it may be Also ui related problem too... or vault trip reset some game settings. Maybe there should be warning that "Extended play time may harm your game" sticker in here ;)

I got this bug (for the first time) today. I'd only just opened up the game, though it's possible it had been running in the background since who knows when. I found Mokmurian's Club wasn't recharging, then buried Father Zantus and nothing happened. I forfeited rather than have someone die to this stupid bug.

 

Party: Lem, Valeros, Merisiel
Difficulty: Legendary

Scenario: 5-3ish, the one with three villains

Wildcards: "Distractions" (end your turn when you get an ally or blessing) and the one that makes you bury a card when you get a something, spell or blessing.

I think it all happened at the location where you banish an item when you get another item.

Sorry guys we are trying out best here to get this bugs (and others squashed).

I have played about 60 hours in my personal game at home and here came across this bug.

Also I have untold amounts of hours across a number of devices here at work and have also not encountered this bug. When this happens it makes it very hard to track down what is broken. Someone mentioned off turn heals, but it could also be having the app open for a number of hours mixed with that as well as other issues that make finding this bug a bit more complex.

If it helps at all, Mr. Dev, I can tell you exactly when I first encountered it. I used the Staff of Hungry Shadows and discarded a spell as part of it's condition. That was supposed to recharge a random card from the discard, but it did not. I thought it was a glitch with only the staff, but after that happened none of my healing spells worked. Of course, correlation in one event does not confirm causality, but maybe they are related since I'd not had problems healing previously. I do sometimes leave the game running while I do other things, both off and on my tablet, so that's another one, but I've been doing that since the very first day or release without seeing this healing problem.

Gameplay: Pass & Play off, Permadeath off

 

Now, reproducing this bug is super-complicated, so I will walk you through it very carefully.

 

Step 1. Use a healing ability. Any healing ability (minor staff of healing, Mokmurian's club, Cure, Major Cure, Mass Cure, Kyra's ability, whatever, it doesn't matter in the slightest), on any character, by any character, in any scenario, at any location.

 

If that healing ability actually worked, congratulations, that means you can't progress the daily challenge, now proceed to step 2. If it didn't work, you have successfully reproduced this bug.

 

Step 2. If healing is currently working for you, use another healing ability out of turn (I routinely used minor staffs drawn by a character resetting their hands at the start of the next character's turn, because why wouldn't I? And until the latest patch, that always worked fine.). At this point, healing will no longer work, but you will be able to progress on the daily challenge.

 

It really is that simple. I can't imagine why anyone is having the slightest difficulty reproducing this obvious, constant bug that makes the game unplayable.

 

Based on some of the ideas in this thread, I tried restarting my tablet. That was actually successful in putting me into the "healing works/challenges don't" mode of the game, and thus where Step 2 came from. Still, until and unless the game returns to having both healing and challenges working at the same time, I count the game as unplayable and won't be wasting my time with it anymore.

Interesting. In my games both of those Are working at the same time. So both the challenge and healing works. But some outturn healing can sometimes turn the healing of, but not always...

Whoa. Such snark and sarcasm. Completely contradicting the culture of this board.

 

I have played the game with many parties on both the AmiDUOS emulator (which, like all emulators, is unsupported) and a low-budget LG tablet. I have never had any healing power fail for me, ever. I've run a solo Lini through all released content with 3 Cures in her deck. Cure has always worked. I've run a Lem/Valeros duo through all released content with Lem constantly pulling his Cure from his discard pile, and, towards the end, doing the same with Mass Cure. These have always worked. Merisiel with Staff of Minor Healing. Kyra using her power. You name it, it has always worked for me.

 

So, some helpful information about how to reproduce this would be appreciated.

Dude, if we could figure out what the trigger was, we'd say so. Are you saying that it's our responsibility as users to invest time in performing experiments to determine the cause? 'Cos to me, that sounds like the task of the development team. Our job is surely to say "here's something wrong and here's our best understanding of the circumstances". But the thing is, if the trigger isn't immediate (like, say Merisiel's recharging of Blessing) where cause and effect are directly linked, it can be difficult for an end-user to spot, when they are focussing on playing the game, which is the job of the end-user.

Well in this case the developer spend 60 hours trying to reproduce the bug instead of fixing something else and did not tricker the bug...

So I think that the dev is trying out to find the bug and if They do, They may fix it. But it is very hard to fix something if it is not broken or if it is very hard to cause the problem.

So the Dude above is not complaining that we others can not provide more accurate information. He mainly was consern that we could be more polite. I am personally an "older" person and I often found these forums Also be not so polite towards game developers and even against other Forum writers. It disturbs me greatly some times, because all that unfriendly speak does not fix any problems that we see in the apps and programs. They Are just mean and ill words that hurt peoples. But as I said I am an elderly Person and my personal tolerance to unfriendly talk is very limited. So it is a personal taste in some degree.

 

These hide and seek bugs that Are very difficult to reproduce Are really hard to fix. So every Person who does reproduce this bug and Also can do it again and again by using same combination of things will help a lot in fixing this problem.

If devs use 300 hours more and do not find this bug it is a time wasted on fixing other bugs. Ofcourse They will try to reproduce it because it is their job and interest to do it, but any more clues will speed up the prosess!

My both thumbs Are up to all the post above that have been given new clues and more accurate information about this bug! You Are Great! Keep it upp! Sooner or later this bug is a dead bug... and good riddance of it in that day!

I have two points:

 

First, like Hannibal said, some of the tone in this thread is way out of line. There's no need for it.

 

Second, we're all part of this community. If you are seeing the bug, and many others (including all the developers) are not, it would really help the whole community if you could detail the situation in which you see the bug.

 

I'm not saying you as the end user have to find the trigger.

I'm saying that detailed information can only help to fix this problem, which would benefit the whole community.

 

The developer asked for assistance, and got snark and no help. That's what I'm objecting to.
