I've had problems when the Nightbelly Boa shows up in quest mode, I'm on an iPad Air, and my Quest party is at level 27 at this point, so the Boa is popping up as a henchman option on heroic difficulty. But when I defeat it, it doesn't give me the option to close the location. It just sits there, as if I defeated a generic monster.

That is what it is supposed to do.

Are you sure? The text on the Nightbelly Boa is "If undefeated, put the Nightbelly Boa faceup on top of this location deck". The OP says that in their situation they have *defeated* the Boa, so it should have disappeared, not gone back on top of the location deck

The Boa does not give you ability to,trigger location closure. I thought it was like a regular henchmen too until someone pointed it out to me. Basically you need to explore all the cards if you want to close the location or much easier hunt for the boss to trigger location temporary closures.

Team up on a location so you can deplete the location deck till you get to a number which your party can cover everything.

Agreed, it doesn't allow you to close the location, but it shouldn't go back on top of the deck when you defeat it. Ah, hang on, that's not what the OP is meaning by "it just sits there as if I'd defeated a generic monster". My bad :(
