Face-up cards when location is closed, please

PinkRose

Question

Can we have the option to show the cards that are getting banished when we close a location?

I always love to know if it was a good idea or not, to save those 3 turns and find it was just 3 Blessing of the Gods left in the deck.

And I always agonize over whether it is a dull longsword or +1 Flaming Longsword left at the bottom of the deck when I close a location.

And that's part of the fun.

I realized after my 3rd or 4th, I wasn't getting to see what I was passing up.

An option in the main menu to turn it on or not would be fabulous.

I'll pass this along.

Personally I like not knowing. Keeps the mystery alive and I don't have to groan when I see a particularly good boon get banished.

There is no way to play the physical game and not look at the cards you banish from location decks. They have to be organized back into their box at some point!

At my table, we always immediately scan the decks after closing. It is exciting to see that you just banished 9 turns worth of junk, justifying your decision to burn three blessings and a weapon discard on that encounter/closing requirement. It also helps reinforce the risk/reward part of the game. Several times we have closed locations with 1 or 2 cards in them only to find Poog or Zantus. That stings, but you remember that event! Similarly, in later scenarios you might have to shuffle cards from your deck into a location. If you forget to re-acquire it on closing, let's hope it was not good loot!

With that said, I agree that an option to turn the cards face up or down on closing would be a good idea. Potentially increase the speed of removing them from the pile while face down, but give the user a chance to scan and inspect cards while face up? I have pondered about this game having an animation where and entire pile of cards is swept away and banished/discarded/whatever.

Yeah, that's how I feel about it too. I love the satisfaction of closing a location and banishing a buck of super-annoying monsters you didn't want to deal with, and I even love closing a location early in an AP and turning over a new super-good boon and being like "wow?? that EXISTS?" So just another voice for "let me see what I'm banishing!"

As we just learned in this thread, there is at least one core rule that won't be implemented at launch yet whose absence can have a major effect on gameplay. I, too, would like to see which cards get banished on location closing, but as this has absolutely no mechanical effect on gameplay, I unfortunately have to hope that it is literally the last thing on Obsidian's agenda. :)
