Graphics of Raedrics Hold area messed up (linux)

Hello,

I've encountered a weird bug. The graphics in Raedrics Hold are all messed up. There doesn't appear to be any other problems and so far only that zone is affected. I have included a dropbox link of all the savegames and logs including a screenshot of the problem:

Any suggestions? I've already tried "resetting" the area by deleting it from the savegame file.

I'm running Fedora 22 (64bit),  AMD Phenom II X6 1065T Processor, Radeon graphics card (I forget the number). Because it's only a few areas, my best guess it the files for the areas got corrupted somehow. I have know idea how that could have happened though, or how to fix it.

Are you using open source or proprietary drivers for your AMD graphics card?

 

I had problems like this, in addition to full on crashes only in certain areas while using open source AMD drivers on Linux.

I'm using the open source drivers. I was having various issues with the proprietary drivers a while ago so I swtiched. I hate to go messing with the system when everything else is working just fine (even other games). It seems odd that only certain areas would react to the drivers, wouldn't the developers implement the graphics of the areas uniformly?

Hello Daoimean,

 

We haven't received and reports or issues like this from our Linux user. Have you tried verifying your game files in steam? Try that and see if it solves your issue.

I just tried that. It appears to have made things worse. I've attached a screenshot of Caed Nua, a zone that previously worked fine.

Hello Daoimean,

 

Since you are using an open source driver, and no one else is experiencing this issue,  there is little we can do unfortunately. Does this happen to other games that are using the Unity 4 engine such as Wasteland 2 (non director cut)? I would suggest downloading the proper proprietary driver. You can also try uninstalling/reinstalling the game.

As MikeMaximus has mentioned, Open source drivers can be unstable.

I played throu Waseland 2 with no problems at all (before the directors cut was released). I'll try reinstalling, if that doesn't work I'll look into the other driver and report back. Thanks.

Just reinstalled. Problem still there but now sound doesn't work... still works everywhere else... even Wasteland2. What the heck is happening now?

Okay, so after the obligitory 3 reboots the sound is working again. Just tried installing proprietory radeon driver, no luck. The new drivers don't support my version of XServer and I'm not experienced enough with linux to go messing with that. So basically, I can't install it. Any other options?

Looks like this is the problem: Could not find string for Table text/game/factions.stringtable ID 50

Looks like some kind of unity error. I'm still not convinced it's a driver problem.

 

Can any developers tell me what this means?

When those errors occur, verify your game cache will typically fix those issues. Try verifying your cache again. I am not familiar with Linux but when you uninstalled the game, did you also delete the directory folder to make sure no old files were left behind? 

 

Hopefully someone here on the forums who is more experienced with Linux can help you out. Perhaps you can find an older version of the proprietary driver that will be compatible with your version of XServer.

Just tried reinstalling again. I deleted everything related to the game that I could find prior to reinstalling (savegame folder, unity3d logs, game files). Didn't solve the problem. I had a look at the new log file (it's a bit easier to read since there is only the one area loaded). Definitely looks like some textures aren't loading (or are missing). I've copied the log file below. (Is there a better way to attach logs?)

 

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'll look into the driver again, but I have my doubts that a new driver will find missing assests. Is there maybe a way to test if the assests are there and not being loaded (driver?) vs missing (some other problem)?
