BruceVC Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I agree with Volourn. Why would anyone voluntarily be American. Because I'm afraid I might get deported back to Cuba. Why wouldn't you want to be returned to the socialist paradise of Cuba? Yeah Orog that wouldn't be so bad...you know how hot those Cuban dancers are and I imagine the local Cubans would see you as a celebrity for living in the USA "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead" - Nelson Mandela
Orogun01 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Nah, I'm thinking of doing my retirement on a different Caribbean island. One where the dollar is still worth something. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Guard Dog Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Nah, I'm thinking of doing my retirement on a different Caribbean island. One where the dollar is still worth something. Plus it would suck to return to Cuba only to be sent to the Isla de Pina or get a bullet in the head because your parents had the audacity to leave "paradise". Yes Bruce, they do things like that. Really? I wasn't aware of that, so you are saying for Cubans to return there lives would be threatened....if that is so then yes there is NO reason to return to Cuba "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Barothmuk Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Probably a reaction to that whole Bay of Pigs thing.
Ineth Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Well that makes it okay then. "Some ideas are so stupid that only an intellectual could believe them." -- attributed to George Orwell

That might have been once at the height of communism but nowadays they just let you be. A lot of people have returned because they don't like the US (too much work) and they aren't singled out. Even people that are returned after being found by the coast guard aren't, they just get a little black note on their file. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Barothmuk Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Relevant story I remembered from earlier this year.

PK htiw klaw eriF Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Global Warming or market crash? Market crash. Although by the time he hits retirement age(I assume he's 20-something) chances are those islands will be flooded. Probably true, although I'm hoping that technology will solve the needs of a globalized marketplace by making it easier have works overseas. But that might be too optimistic. Namutree Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Relevant story I remembered from earlier this year. Hm... Yet another story highlighting how crappy the US healthcare system is. We really need to fix it. "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking. I use blue text when I'm being sarcastic.
