Game crash

Question

Hello everyone.

I have downloaded and installed the GOG version of the game, but after running it, it shows Obsidian, Paradox and Kickstarter logos and immediately crashes with a message that I should send the folder with the log to the developer. So, how and to whom should I send it?

If you get the crash Hoyoku gets where the crashing system is "CSteamworks.dll" in the error log (which would happen right after an Achievement would be granted for backing the game), then you probably just need to update Steam to the latest version as the Steamworks library we are using doesn't seem to work on older versions of the Steam client.

Wrong directory,

If It's the steam version it will most likely be in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\Mono

 

As for the GOG version it will most likely be in

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\Mono

 

Just look inside the main game directory.

I replace the file with the new into the directory (keeping a copy):

C: \ Program Files (x86) \ GOG \ Pillars of Eternity \ PillarsOfEternity_Data \ Mono

 

by launching the game I have this message:

 

failed to load mono

mono: function mono_loader_get_last_error not found

mono: function mono_loader_error_prepare_exception not found

mono: function mono_unity_liveness_mark_classes_for_intptr_scanning not found

mono: function mono_unity_liveness_has_parent_class not found

I'm using the latest version of Steam though?

Hm…still no fix in sight. 

 

Paid for a product that is not working…and no response regarding fixing.

 

What would be the next appropriate step?

 

The crash after logos issue is something we have on our radar and have recently brought up with Unity. We're hoping for a solution that doesn't require workarounds like most of the people here have already done. A handful of other recently released Unity engine games (Wasteland 2, Hearthstone, Kerbal Space Program, etc.) seem to be hit by the same issue where the game is crashing because of the uncl.ttf font for some reason (we don't use that font in our game). All of the other mentioned game forums that were hit with this issue seem to suggest doing the same thing: remove any uncl.ttf font in your OS's fonts directory. 

 

In the meantime, we're working with Unity to see what can be done to fix this issue.

my game is also crashing. Each time I enter character creation and press 'next' my computer reboots itself for no apparent reason.

 

-I'm running the game on Steam, which is updated

-Drivers are also ready to go

I followed the instructions in the first crash fix. by deleting the font that was affected.. was running the game smoothly but then i messed up having to uninstall the game. then system restore and steam patched it up.. now i keep crashing, i can't even get into the main menu. then I checked the local content, it is now downloading 4.4 gig.. at any rate my speculation is there were some files missing but can someone confirm here are the output logs..

Hm…still no fix in sight. 

 

Paid for a product that is not working…and no response regarding fixing.

 

What would be the next appropriate step?

 

The crash after logos issue is something we have on our radar and have recently brought up with Unity. We're hoping for a solution that doesn't require workarounds like most of the people here have already done. A handful of other recently released Unity engine games (Wasteland 2, Hearthstone, Kerbal Space Program, etc.) seem to be hit by the same issue where the game is crashing because of the uncl.ttf font for some reason (we don't use that font in our game). All of the other mentioned game forums that were hit with this issue seem to suggest doing the same thing: remove any uncl.ttf font in your OS's fonts directory. 

 

In the meantime, we're working with Unity to see what can be done to fix this issue.

I have a crashing issue on game load. However for me this had been periodic, so sometimes it is on game load, then sometimes when I try loading a same, and other times the game loads fine. If I manage to get a game to load then everything is good, otherwise I have to keep restarting my PC until it works, if at all. I have verified my game integrity. I do not have the uncl.ttf font installed, I have scanned my fonts folder with two pro apps that detect corrupted fonts, neither reported any corrupted fonts. And I have tried loading from an earlier save, but that also doesn't work. So at the moment I am very much struggling to get a game to load without PE crashing.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've found if the game hangs rather than crashes you can leave it hung (for me around 5 minutes) and it will finally load to menu. Not that that matters since Obsidian hasn't delat with the save corruption or delete issues. I'm not waisting my time trying to play to have the game repeatedly lose my progress over and over. Very disapointed to say the least.

Just bought the game. Installed (on Steam) and it crashed (to Desktop) when I clicked "Done" with the first loading screen/story about you being taken ill on the five wagons travelling through the night. Haven't even made it to the character creation screen yet.

 

Second attempt... made it to the character creation screen then quit out and it crashed again. Here are the files, I hope.

Just wanted to let you know: the fix from the pinned article (make 32 bit windows use 3 gb for a single application) worked for me. Now i´m in gilded vale ^^.

 

It looked to me as if the fix in the pinned article is only for windows7 - is that correct?

The GoG version worked on my Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit Linux system, however as I was not satisfied with GoG's Linux patch solutions I bought the Steam version yesterday. Unfortunately after starting the game freezes at the Kickstarter acknoledgemtens screen. All prior hints in this thread were related to Windows operating systems. Where can I find the corrupted font files in Ubuntu?

So I just started playing Pillars yesterday and I also have the Steam version. I already downloaded the new patch and every time either at the opening scene or at character creation it actually crashes my entire computer. It doesn't even knock me back to desktop. Anyway way to solve this?

After having dowloaded the patch 1.05, I found out the game is crashing.

I start it, arrive on the main menu.

 

When I choose "Continue" option (or load a game), it crashes.

It was working well before the patch installation.

Hey. I joined the community to add a response to this particular error.

 

I was having the same error (0023:00000000.), and it is unrelated to fonts.

 

I solved this error by restoring driver information to the registry that had been deleted by some stupid program called Driver Fusion. If you made any modifications to the registry or video drivers recently, try restoring backups or rolling back your system

Hi

 

I have a crash error that is unrelated to fonts. I am unable to do anything but walk around the map. Combat, talking to NPCs, trying to chance area, etc all crash the game immediately. The crash log does not provide any information that is usable to me, but I would like some help if anyone could manage. Attached are a few of the error logs.

 

I have tried reinstalling the game, fixing registry issues, running as administrator, making sure there is enough RAM available, etc. Nothing has helped.

Hi my game crashes when I try to enter Durgan's Battery - i've just opened the door and and when I click to enter it loads and crashes.

In your log I see 2GB of memory, but the system requirements ask for 4GB RAM.

If that is correct the crash is likely due to entering a area requiring more than 2GB RAM.

    • Memory: 4 GB RAM

Hi,

 

Thank you so much for taking the time to get back to me ! I really appreciate any support !

 

But I'm not convinced that the requirements is the issues because I have:

 

  • OS: Windows 7 Ultimate / System type 64-bit Operationg System
  • Processor: Intel® Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz
  • Memory: 8.00 GB (7.84 GB useble)
  • Graphics: Nvidia GEFORECE 640M 2 GB
  • Storage: 
    • Free storage space on drive C where Windows is = 3.96 GB
    • Free storage space on drive where game is installed = 19.9 GB

Also

It's my second run of the game - first run was with WM I, now I am playing again after I got WM II also. The first one was without issues like this. I also still have my saves from the first run and from withing the Battery. So I loaded the old saves and went exploring through the Battery levels from the Forge Level up. The other areas within the Battery were loading fine, but when I got to the first level, the Main Hall I guess - that area loading crashed in the same way.

 

This leads me to believe that it's something related to the Main Hall area in particular.

 

Any other advice I can follow ?
