Hello old chaps. I was just looking through the wiki and I noticed that while the paladins get orders and the priests get dieties, there doesn't seem to be any information on monk orders. Do they... not get any? I would be nice if they did... If you want to be a philosophical monk with a long grey beard, then you need a philosophy to follow!

the whole martial monk thing strikes us as weird. oh, sure, there is a few orders o' combat trained monks. heck, even the catholic church had some such, but for the most part when we think o' monks, we pictures a handful o' guys living in a monastery (duh) where they can be quietly contemplative... and perhaps make beer or cheese or some such.

video is a scene o' a couple franciscan friars interacting with benedictine monks.  am having a hard time picturing old jorge  or the assistant librarian (berengar? he were the monk startled by the rodent) being much help fighting elder lions in poe.

btw, is a fantastic book.

rpg game monks is too much shaolin mythology and not enough good beer making for us.

HA! Good Fun!

To answer the OP's question no, there are no monk orders in the game.

I imagine it's more like a master/student thing than what Paladins have.

I could get behind that. Each master passes on his style to a few gifted students... still, in time, you'd think a few bigger schools would form. Or are we going with the "There can only be two... a master and an apprentice..." thing:)

Monks are just random dudes who sent 30 coppers in the mail after seeing an ad for "Secrets of the Dragon Masters Kung-Fu Manual" on the back of the menu at the local pub.

Wow, I had no idea they were so at odds with the law!

Honestly though, I'm pretty much so poisoned by games and gaming fantasy (oddly it's not so common in literary fantasy) that when someone says "monk" in context, I automatically think of a martial arts asianesque monk, even if it's a westernized setting, it just means that they're westerners practicing martial arts of some kind, and mastering their inner strength or personal soul or something along their lines (if it's straight-up asianesque, then it's obviously just called 'Chi').

I don't think of the meek, vaguely homoerotic, cheese-making winery priests of post-Dark Ages' Europe.

you sir have actually found an animated gif that scares me. I don't want to look at the googly faced guys, they creep me out! But josh seems like a interesting guy so it has a weird synergy going. It's almost like staring into fire...

Also to the OP: ohhh I was slow understanding what you meant by order's based upon the thread title... I was thinking like, "Transformer's, Roll out! or Squad 7 Attack!"

It bothers me that the Valians at least don't have monk orders. Wouldn't physical perfection and fighting prowess on a beautiful level be part of  "The Vallian Way?"
