South Park Is Hilariously Inappropriate

South Park: The Stick of Truth has been on my radar since it was announced earlier this year. I mean, come on, Matt and Trey have teamed up with Obsidian Entertainment to create a turn-based RPG with the only focus being on the point of the game playing like an episode of the show. What

I'll be happy if we get to see more gameplay at CC.

Right now, the only thing this priest wanted to do on Day 1 was make up for E3. The stuff we missed. And, the absolute worst moment of our wonderful Electronic Entertainment Expo experience was skipping on South Park: The Stick of Truth.

The Joystiq preview is out.

EDIT: No quote because copy-pasting doesn't seem to work well for me right now.

It combines Obsidian's talent for grindy fantasy RPGs...

Lol.

I had no idea that we were known for grindy fantasy RPGs. :)

Let me get back to sleeping. I'm tired...

I was going to make a joke about how grindy your games are, but then I couldn't come up with anything. I have never felt that I have had to grind in any of Obsidian's games to be honest.

You gain your levels as you progress, but I have never felt that I had to respawn enemies to gain more levels. I remember in AP, when I was at the end in Russia that I was stuck at the last boss fight. I just couldn't beat it on my first playthrough. So I decided to go to other areas and become stronger. But I wouldn't call it grindy, because at the same time as I gained exp, I still progressed the story.

Grinding for me is when you just run around killing enemies over and over to become stronger.

I don't think any Obsidian game had particularly brilliant encounter design (the later ones are better than, say, Neverwinter Nights 2 or Knights of the Old Republic II, but hardly great), so I guess you could call them "grindy" in that "you fight waves of mobs over and over", but uh, ultimately I'm not sure what the adjective was supposed to mean in context. I suspect the writer didn't reflect on what it would have meant to other people.

I thought some of the encounter design in MotB, SoZ and DS3 was quite great.

Storm of Zehir had some good encounter design, yeah. I don't remember anything particularly great about DS3 or MotB but that might be my memory's fault.

When I think of the word "grindy" I see the endless tunnels/caverns in Dragon Age 1&2.

OT: 4 new screenshots

Not enough SSAO, Bokeh DoF and soft shadowing. I'll pass.

Eh, no FMV movies, turn based fights and cartoony look. I'll pass

Well would you look at that, they put Nicole in the game! Must be nice to work with characters models so simple!

New video up at gametrailers, can't get the link to work properly.

Vide with some dude talking about it. It's basically the same thing as the written previews except with a boring guy talking instead (no new footage). He liked it a lot though.

Had a little demo of South Park: The Stick of Truth in the office earlier. Lots of laughs, fans of SP definitely won't be disappointed!

Wow, looks exactly like playing through the world of South Park.

What you'll see from THQ at this year's EB Expo

In another Australian exclusive, we head to the perilous battlefields of the fourth-grade playground where a young hero will rise, destined to be South Park’s saviour. We take you on a side-splitting adventure with Cartman and his crew in never-before-seen gameplay showing of South Park: The Stick of Truth.

It's a video walkthrough but believe us, it's incredible and does the game justice. Inside the theatrette it'll be phenom #EBExpo

THQ seems to have a lot of faith in SP:TsoT :)
