I've been toying with Arma II for some time, and with an empty weekend ahead I'm about to take the plunge.

I like realistic FPS, but I'm worried that the combat AI will be so poor as to make it a turkey shoot.

If just the performance would be better. It runs pretty meh on my computer, so I'll have to keep it on around medium settings.

But I love the game anyway. Though, I am not much playing the campaign and such... For me it's more fun to build my own stuff with the editor and play around with this.

/Edit: The ai is very good, by the way. You can also test this with the editor: Create two groups (Bluefor and Opfor) with a bunch of soldiers, set their behavior to "danger" and let them run towards each other with waypoints in some random city. The fight will take a lot time, but you can really see how they move from cover to cover and slowly advance, give fire suppression, etc. etc.

Always keep in mind that this is not a shooter like... I dunno... all other shooters. It's more a simulation.

it's pretty OP. they are better shots than you, so unless you're the god of stealth you'll be dying a lot. flanking the enemy is very hard, and a head on approach will get you killed. you should use your bot-buddies as much as you can. I've been playing in multiplayer for the whole day today, taking a small village with ~20 soldiers can take anywhere from 10 to 50 minutes, and as soon as the tanks roll in, you better turn around and run.

Try to get them from two sides. Also sitting in one position all the time is bad too, because the ai will try to run around you and get you from behind.

Any mods to nerf the ai being jedi-aware?

Time to figure out the editor!

Yesterday I noticed that my ArmA2 folder is 32gb big. The biggest game I have installed (with mods, new islands, etc). With that british army and soldner dlc, that I (probably) will get tomorrow, it should even become at least 2gb bigger.
