Child beauty pageants and clothing/department stores are not "the media". I never said it wasn't a widespread development, I said it's not fair to say "the media keep(s) trying make children look grown up".

Last year the clothing store Primark was selling pushup bras to preteens.

 

Think about it. It's not like serving up a new flavour of ice cream at your local deli. Someone has to design the clothes, hundreds of people sign off on it through the company, then they have to get made, distributed, advertised.

 

As for nature, the fact is nature is playing the numbers, and nature wants babies. Nature doesn't care about emotions or emotional harm, one red cent. You might just as well say that we obviously enjoy saturated fat and alcohol and therefore should eat as much of it as we like all the time.

Sorry, not being very clear. The suggestion was from another member that we need to accept that teens are sexual. I'm not daft I was a teenager once. I'm just saying that what nature drives us to do isn't necessarily in our individual best interests.

Well, I did say media/pageants/some parents.

Also, for me at least, media encompasses a very broad, generic category. I was including magazines, movies, TV, ads/marketing (that would include toys/clothing/products etc.), news coverage of said events, and all of that.

 

(edit)- and I do think it's more than a "handful of photoshoots." It may not be every single magazine article or advertisement on the planet ever made, but it's becoming quite common to see, imo. That's only from my personal experience/observation tho...I don't claim to have seen 'everything' to be able to compare.
