Gorgon Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Can you guys recommend me something. Not looking to pay full price unless it's a 'sure thing', and by that I mean Witcher, Fallout NW, or simliar territory. I tried Two worlds 2 and I absolutely hated it, except the melee system, that was rather good for an RPG. I forget is it Gothic 3 or 4 that comes with a broken combat system, it must be 3# right, so how is Gothic 4 ?... Risen, what else. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
Tale Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I hear Gothic 4 is as bad as 3, if not worse. Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga isn't really pulling me in, so I can't recommend it either. The Penny Arcade guys are advertising Eschalon: Book 2. And their advertisements are meant to be taken as recommendations. They didn't even advertise New Vegas. So while I can't recommend it, I haven't played it, but I'm nevertheless curious about it. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Gorgon Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 You know I really feel like giving Assassin's creed 2 a go, except that would be like selling your soul to the devil, or in this case Ubisoft. I will not be tempted, I shall overcome. I really want something with a combat system that's as good as Two Worlds 2, but where your first reaction to every single encounter is not 'I don't care whether you live or die, but if you have a 'go there fetch that quest' make it snappy or I'm pressing escape' Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
Orchomene Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Eschalon book 1 was ok, but lacked a bit of interest storywise, I've not tested the second one yet. Difficult to recommand something without knowing what you have already played. Gothic 4 is not that good, worse than Two Worlds 2 (at least for me). King's bounty is good if you like turn-based strategy games with some rpg aspects. Of course, you can check GoG for games. Mount and blade Warband is very good if you like sandbox games. Very serious in its medieval warfare aspect. Other than that, I don't see many things.
kirottu Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Lotro is free to download and free to play. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Gorgon Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Not really a mmorpheger man. I prefer my games to have a beginning and an ending. Edited November 22, 2010 by Gorgon Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
sorophx Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 just don't play Risen, biiiiiiiiiig disappointment. even DeathSpank is better than Risen Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. And having been educated solely by mkreku in this respect I am convinced that Finland essentially IS the wh40k universe.
HoonDing Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Venetica is action RPGish as Two Worlds 2, and has better combat than Risen, Gothic 3 or Arcania. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Maria Caliban Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Arx Fatalis. 4.99 on Steam Have you played Alpha Protocal yet? Edited November 22, 2010 by Maria Caliban "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
Labadal Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Wich consoles do you own? NIER was great for PS360. Surprise hit for me. Action rpg, but you don't get skill points at level up and no armor. You do get many different weapons that you can also upgrade later in the game. You can also equip "words" for better attack, defence, stunning enemies, etc. I recommend it because of the music, story, characters and boss fights. Just don't expect the best looking game. Need to beat the game 4 times to get the last ending. You start from the halfway point on new game plus. Bought it for
Guest Slinky Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Arx Fatalis. 4.99 on Steam +1 Bought it out of curiosity from GOG about a year ago, and I'm glad I did.
Rosbjerg Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'm also interested in a good RPG, so I'm following this as well .. Has anyone played Dark Messiah? I've been looking at it for some time and it looks interesting, but I can't decide. Fortune favors the bald.

But it is one of my favourite games ever, so you might want to try it out, it's REALLY fun game.
Rosbjerg Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Oh, I thought it was an action RPG.. Fortune favors the bald.
Labadal Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I thought Dark Messiah was ok, but it felt more like an FPS in a fantasy setting.
Tale Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Dark Messiah was just an awesome game. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Cantousent Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 There's a bunch of cheap games on Steam. $5 or less even. There's one that looks kind of intriguing: Winter Voices. Sadly, it's one of those games that intrigues me, but I suspect some of the indy cheese will poke through. I opted out of Alpha Protocol also. Partly because I don't have time and partly because it didn't get very good press. The price is right, though. Time is the big factor. After New Vegas, I don't want anything so addictive that I'm losing sleep playing when I have the chance to sleep. Labadal Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I was assuming he had already played Alpha Protocol. That would be a good RPG for you. Not a super long game, but good replay value. And I think I have mentioned this a few times already: GOTY 2010.
Gorgon Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Is that Dark messiah might and magic or is that something else. Which game is this ? - because that looks like a lot of primitive fun. By the way I don't have a console, and I don't really 'feel' Alpha Protocol, although I'll probably play it once it cools down pricewize.
