Masterfade
The master? They only have EVE, the next game doesn't even have a release date. True but I don't think anyone else had managed to release a sandbox MMORPG as successful (commercially and critically) as EVE in the last five years. So calling them the master is only due credit. Syraxis
cancelled after being announced. Or shortly after being released, exactly where WAR seems to be headed. Still IMO a WOD mmo has some merit (though I doubt I would have as much fun as I did w/ a single player game, if I played it outside of any possible public beta) it all depends on the execution. Nightshape
Sure, MMOs are at extra risk because of the long development times and the tendency to get cancelled after being announced. Not to mention the fact they have to be heavily marketed, general cost of such large development teams and the technical challenges are well in excess of your average game. MMO's shouldn't seem as attractive as they have been. I came up with Crate 3.0 technology. Hurlshort
CCP has certainly shown how a small developer can be successful in the MMO market.
TheHarlequin
cancelled after being announced. Or shortly after being released, exactly where WAR seems to be headed. Really? I heard they had a pretty bad drop off rate but not that bad. Thats pretty harsh but in all honesty they shot themselves in the foot as well. You'd think after the mess of AoC mmorpg devs would learn but seems they are destined to keep repeating the same mistakes. From what I read (in fairness WAR wasn't high on my list so only what I gathered on blues news) they stumbled into some of the exact pot holes AoC did. And with WAR released less then a year after AoC I feel theres little excuse. Of course I could be mislead on my impressions of what blues is reporting as well. Purkake
Considering the total number of MMOs and the number of successful ones, I wouldn't get my hopes up for WoD. Also, consider how many of them try to copy WoW and how many don't.(all of those were supposed to be totally different from WoW, guess what happened.) I'm surprised people think they would use the old WoD setting. Wow somehow I missed this gem. TW2000 would make a great mmorpg setting as well. Of course prob want to rename it tw2025 or such Ever play the PnP game stalking the night fantastic or witchcraft? StNF predates the secret world and xfiles. Both are similar to the idea of the SW and somewhat in common with WoD. In both game worlds there are secret orgs, some with magic or paranormal abilities fighting in the shadows below the radar of mom and pop on the street. Certainly, if done right, a mold breaking mmorpg like that would do well. We certainly don't need yet another S&S mmo. Hell Kitty
I've never played any PnP. There is an old adventure game called Bureau 13 that is based on StNF. These kinds of settings are right up my proverbial alley, and while I prefer singleplayer, I'll take what I can get.
