Walsingham Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 Did the twenty minute run, with three breaks of 30 seconds walking in it. Top quality, head up, good bounce, ran hard. Less impressive I warmed down before I remembered I had to do the upper body stuff. Now I've got to get to meet a friend at the station and there's no time. Ah well. At least I did something. Walsingham Posted November 23, 2009 Author Posted November 23, 2009 Did the hour walk yesterday to the train station and back. Today it's late but I'm going off to do a fifteen minute jog plus: 3 x 20 press ups 2 x 7 dorsal raises 2 x Tricep dips 3 x 30 situps "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Walsingham Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 Run an unqualified success. Romped the first 7 and a half minutes. Second half uphill but still brisk pace. Upper body pretty poor. Only one set of 20 pressups. Then 8, then 13 then 5 then 5. 40 second gaps. situps three blocks of 30. But only got through last set by doing three for GD's broken bones. I now feel very sick, and I can barely lift my arms. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. Walsingham Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 Lesson learned: don't go running at 2330 at night, having only had a cheese sandwich and some porridge to eat all day. Blarghagh Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Still, you're doing pretty good. Good luck, Wals! I walked into a door handle two days ago and I haven't done excercising since because my hip hurts like ****all now. Such a lame reason for limping, walking into a door handle.
Walsingham Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Today ( Wednesday) really pretty easy 10 minute warm up 5 x 1 minute fast run, 1 minute slow run, back to back 10 minute warm down At least that sounds easy. Have to see, I suppose. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. Walsingham Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 OK. Firstly, it's not easy if you push yourself hard enough in the fast sections. Sadly I wasn't precisely sprinting but I tried to kep a rapid rhythm for those sections. I'm nt sure if it qualifies as proof of effort, but I made it to the mile mark almost precisely by nine minutes. Things are looking up for the trial timed run this saturday. Tomorrow is a rest day, and Friday is a brisk 40 minute walk. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. theslug Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Oh how I hate you Wals. Against what little reason and sanity I have left I decided to go running tonight and probably tomorrow. I happened to have just purchased new running shoes and in the store they felt like the perfect fit but tonight they felt a size too big. I suppose that's better than the last pair that felt like they were a size too small. Either way I'm starting to come to the realization that its not the shoe that is the problem its that I think I have the dreaded flat foot of my forefathers. When I run my feet hurt incredibly bad, so bad in fact that I can barely work up a sweat before I have to stop becuase the pain is near unbearable. And course I start running and some hot chick pulls up like 2 treadmills away and 30 seconds into it I can feel this terrifying tingling pain running from my feet and into my ankles but I continue, enduring and persevering like a true hero until my body can take no more. You know it takes a man of considerable greatness, bravery, and constitution to do what I did today. To face a mountain of pain and fear and not not back down. I'd just like to thank myself for all that I've accomplished. Thank you self. Walsausages fits somewhere in there as well. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.
Walsingham Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 It does sound like you may have flat feet, and possibly the wrong shaped shoes. My commisserations, slugland. But you are right to take pride. Good on you. Today is a timed 1.5 mile run, a new (hopefully) pressup max score (as many as can be done in two minutes), and a new situp max score (ditto time). I'm currently waiting for breakfast to settle before I clipclop off. At least it's stopped raining. I'm really not looking forward to the run as I know I should push as hard as possible, and in my case that generally means throwing up. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Walsingham Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 Just about to head out on teh run. As previously said I'm now doing the tests in single blocks, rather than total numebr in 2 minutes. Not sure if that's kosher, but it makes more sense. So far 33 pressups. My stomach actually gave way before my arms, suggesting I need to work on my back and core muscles. So far 53 situps. This is good, as I could probably have managed a few more for a special occasion, and the target is only 60! Now for the run "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Walsingham Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 Threw up on myself slightly, and needed two 30 second walking breaks. I guess that means I tried hard. Anyway, new time is 13:49. This is an improvement of 1:26 over my previous time, which I also think is good. Hell, if I can only remove the need for walking I should take another minute something off the total. I also noticed that I've literally worn the treads flat on my shoes. So new shoes should help. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Theseus Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Wals have you tried working out before you eat instead man? Also to prevent throwing up make sure your getting enough oxygen, Im thinking you should take more breaks inbetween that way your system doesn't fill up with that acid to replace the lack of oxygen.
Walsingham Posted November 29, 2009 Author Posted November 29, 2009 I uased to exercise before eating, but i was told this makes you more likely to get tired. I do think you're right about not enough oxygen. I think I breathe wrong when I'm running. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. mkreku Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Oh. Hmm. I see the horse has left without me. Anyhow, I blame the fact that I've actually worn out (yes!) my jogging shoes! There's a small hole near the toes on the sole of the left shoe! I think it's the first time I've ever managed to wear down a pair of shoes I use ONLY for jogging! Weird thing to be proud of, but I am. Wish they weren't so damn expensive though, I am in no mood to buy new ones. I do go to the gym 3-4 times a week though so I'm not entirely stagnant. Walsingham Posted November 30, 2009 Author Posted November 30, 2009 (edited) It's late, but I'm going to ignore my own learning curve and go out anyway. The joys of living in a big city with all the street lights. ~ 18 min steady run 3x max pressups 3x 8 squats 3x situps max 3x 8 dorsal raises 30-90 secs rest between sets. ~ Incidentally, can anyone suggest good training music? Walsingham Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 Discovered I had lost my watch. Finally set out at 23:30 Managed the run more or less OK. I think I planned 18 mins running time on my music player. Good pacing, even uphill at the end. Felt pretty good. Pressups and situps less successful. ONly managed three sets of 15 for press ups and 33,23,20 for situps. I just don't understand how the hell you are supposed to do your maximum possible total three times in around five minutes. :( I need to speak to my PTI. "It wasn't lies. Walsingham Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Apologies for not posting in a while. I've been more focussed on actually doing the damn exercise. This month follows a fairly stable pattern of Day 1 - 20 mins run, upper body 3 times test exercises Day 3 - Ten mins warm up, 10 mins interval training - 10 mins warm down Day 5 - warm up and down as above, ten minutes of circuit training. Day 7 - long walk I've been sticking to this, and doing quite well for effort, but still failing totally to hit the targets for numbers of pressups and situps. I just can't understand it. Still, am clearly making progress which may be evidenced directly from increasing compliments from young ladies. "It wasn't lies. Walsingham Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Absolutely nailed the 20 minute run. In one go, no rests, good pace throughout, and 1/4 uphill. Pressups I managed 20/20/15. Situps I managed 3x 30! No burpees... which now I think about it is just as well, since I was supposed to be doing squat thrusts, which are not nearly so bad. Did no squat thrusts tho. Never mind. Hiro Protagonist Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Decided to start exercising last week to lose some weight and will continue for the next three weeks. Power walking 1 hour every morning and night as well as 30 minutes at lunch time. Very strict diet. Small glass of Orange Juice for Breakfast, no lunch. A few cups of tea a day with sugar and milk. Small dinner. End of week 1. Lost 10 Kgs. will update at the end of this second week to see how much I've lost.
theslug Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Decided to start exercising last week to lose some weight and will continue for the next three weeks. Although it seems to be "working" that is an incredibly horrible way to lose weight. You need to be eating as many small meals as possible all throughout the day, generally 6-8. Starving yourself may help you shred some pounds but its mostly going to be muscle mass since your body tends to eat that up before fat. So really your pulling a supremely male genitalia move on your body. Also when you inevitably stop exercising because you've eroded what little muscle you have left and you become more and more tired you'll just put on more fat in the aftermath. If you're a big fella power walking is cool but I'd also do cycling and some weight lifting if at all possible. If not pushups, sit ups, pull ups, air squats, burpess, etc are all your good friends. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Hiro Protagonist Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) Actually I've gained muscle mass and losing fat. I have bigger biceps (from lifting) and calves and my stomach is more tighter than before and quite a bit has been lost around the waist. I feel more fit and less tired. However my girlfriend is doing what you're suggesting by eating around 6 meals a day, exercising and can't lose weight. Probably because she's replacing all those lost calories with meals throughout the day so her body keep her equilibrium. My belief is that it's better to cut down on the meals and do more exercise. You burn off more calories than you put on and lose weight. If you have meals throughout the day, then you're replacing the calories being lost during the day and not losing any weight at all. And I won't inevitably stop exercising because after I lose all the weight, I will still be walking every morning to keep myself in shape. Exercise isn't something you should stop all of a sudden.
