Walsingham
Despite having bad lungs still from the flu I decided I had to get back into the swing of things: 4 blocs of 5 mins run, 1 min walk Followed by somesitups and pressups. I have meeting s to get to so I can't do the full whack of situps and pressups. I'll do more tomorrow to make up for it. EDIT: began coughing like a smoker at the end, hacked up lumps of solid phlegm. Not good Edited November 10, 2009 by Walsingham "It wasn't lies. theslug
sauna might help you lose a little weight and help your body breathe getting rid of toxins. Which should improve your immune system! There is no such thing as "toxins" in your body. Of course you have various substances that can be toxic like say your appendix bursts or your a drug user but for the most part these "elusive" toxins that everyone is always talking about simply don't exist in your body. It's really just a herbal marketing ploy for stupid people who want to pretend like they are sick so they go out and buy expensive products that do absolutely nothing. You have kidneys and a liver for a reason. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.
Theseus
Ehh i guess we might have different definitions of toxins. I personally wouold call air pollution, pesticides and other things that are "unhealthy" that would escape out of our sweat glands.
theslug
Cool. Just saying, I mean I'm going to trust doctors and the majority of western medicine who have no vested interest besides informing instead of a tv/internet ad trying to sell you something using vague half truths and things that sound scientific but have no real basis in reality. From http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-...0,7913944.story "The bottom line: Sweat does contain trace amounts of toxins, says Dr. Dee Anna Glaser, a professor of dermatology at St. Louis University and founding member of the International Hyperhidrosis Society, a medical group dedicated to the study and treatment of heavy sweating. But, Glaser, adds, in the big picture, sweat has only one function: Cooling you down when you overheat. "Sweating for the sake of sweating has no benefits," she says. "Sweating heavily is not going to release a lot of toxins." In fact, Glaser says, heavy sweating can impair your body's natural detoxification system. As she explains, the liver and kidneys -- not the sweat glands -- are the organs we count on to filter toxins from our blood. If you don't drink enough water to compensate for a good sweat, dehydration could stress the kidneys and keep them from doing their job. "If you're not careful, heavy sweating can be a bad thing," she says." Hurlshort
I'm out this round. It's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home this time of the year, so I really don't have much energy. Plus I'm pregnant. I know how leaving and getting home in the dark feels, and it's not pleasant. If you've done it for a few weeks, you start to somehow lose track of time. On topic; I've finally gained some weight (whoa nearly 25 pounds, decided to weigh myself after finding out a whole bunch of my pants don't fit anymore) and I realized I am finally not underweight for my height anymore, so I've started doing some excercise so I can get in shape a bit. Not going to the gym or anything, just things like pushups, crunches, have a few weights that I lift. Glad to know my metabolism is slowing down a bit. Any tips for a home-excerciser who has very little experience with excercising other than biking?
Walsingham
I got waaay too drunk last night, and stayed up until five drinking water so I didn't have a hangover. I have no hangover but I'm knackered. Really knackered. Also it's raining, and dark. So i guess I ought really to suck it up and go for that run. "It wasn't lies. Any tips for a home-excerciser who has very little experience with excercising other than biking? Burpees are a good all around exercise and you can customize it into an entire full body workout. My second recommendation though I'm hesitant to say is a chin up bar. I quickly read some reviews and it seems like most of the ones out there are shoddily built, fit a narrow range of door frames and potentially dangerous when they malfunction. I have a pull up bar which is fantastic but its not really meant to be used for chin ups. I do so anyways but its uncomfortable and constricting. Either way they are really cheap and provide a great exercise. The chin up bar is superior in that it places you outside of the door frame so you have plenty of space to move whereas the pull up bar your wedged right in there. But back to burpees you'll want to youtube it and maybe go to bodybuilding.com and see variations on it but essentially you start standing up, go into a squat position, which then turns into a "sprawl" which puts you into the push up position, do a push up, crouch up back into a squat position and jump. Rinse and repeat. A deceptively simple exercise but deadly exhausting after about 20. I used to do a variation where I'd hold 10 pound weights the entire time but instead of jumping at the end I would do over head press but really you can add just about any exercise or multiple ones onto it. Very under utilized. Walsingham
I nearly forgot. I went for another run yetserday. I moved the pushups and situps to the front of the schedule, and did 2/3rds my maximum twice of each. then 20 minutes of running in four blocks. Today I did not exercise, but did do stress positions to build up my core strength. I don't want to describe these as they are quite tricky and could be dangerous if misapplied. My main aim is to build my core as an adjunct to increasing my pressups. I can only hold a low pressup position, resting on my elbows, for about 40 seconds; so it's no wonder I can't do pressups actively for two minutes. Saw this article in the news today about a TA soldier dying in Afghan. Seems like a nice bloke. I really want to get through training and get out there. "It wasn't lies. Walsingham
Woooo HOOO! I just finished the next daty on the list, which was: 5 back to back blocs of 1 min fast run 2 mins medium run. Plus to warm up I did five mins jogging, 16 pressups and 30 situps. Warm down was a short walk and stretch. Later I have to go meet people which will mean a one hour walk. But the main thing is I did teh run and didn't collapse. I was really worried how far my fitness might ahve droppped but I managed fine. Kept my head up, no shambling. "It wasn't lies. Walsingham
I believe in you Wals. Thanks, slugman. Today is a rest day. So that means I will do core strengthening exercises at a low level several times. Tomorrow will be "walk-jog for fifteen minutes" Whatever the hell that means. I shall assume it means um.... I dunno. Suggestions? Then 3x pressups max 2x 7 Dorsal raises 2x Tricep dips 3x situps max 60 secs rest between sets. "It wasn't lies.
