Allan's much delayed WITP AAR

Well, for those that may be interested, I'm (finally!!!) getting started on my After Action Report for War in the Pacific, Admiral's Edition.

I ended up moving it offsite though, because I'd really like to supplement it with more pictures, strategies, and perhaps links/embeddings of videos and whatnot. The website is amateurish to be sure (mostly because it doesn't need to be much more, I'm also playing around with it for personal reasons), but it gets the job done. Any feedback given is appreciated, but lets be honest now, I likely won't care :p

Here's the link to the website: http://www.squirrelsofdoom.com/Allan/index.html

Shameless plug: The website was generously donated to me by Matt and Roz of http://www.squirrelsofdoom.com I told them I'd get in a cheap plug as thanks. Please don't murder me mods!!!

I'll continue to post updates here with links to the new reports as they come up. I hope to have the first day(s) of the war done either tonight or tomorrow.

Cheers!

Yup.

Spawned from an old email address that had an 8 character limit. 'alanschu' It just stuck. I got tired of coming up with "cool" nicknames just to have them already be in use. It has good balance too.

Day one is up.

The usual assessments of the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack, as well as initial prognosis of the other theatres of combat.

Give me any browser related feedback. It seems to show up fine in Firefox, and an old version of IE (ver6...but who still uses Internet Explorer???).

Hey man how does the war at large affect the Pacific theatre in this game? Do they go for a fully historical timeline or...?

edit: the AAR style's cool. The embedded YT vids and WWII-era pics are great for setting the mood. Looks like you're going to spend more time writing this thing up than actually playing the game...

There are historical restrictions in Admiral Edition.

For instance, with the focus of the War in Europe, B-17 allocation (very useful bombers in the original WITP) to the Pacific Theater disappears, forcing the game player to rely more on the B-26 and the B-25 bombers.

With the "home fronts" being abstracted in this game (as opposed to not existing at all), traveling from England to the Middle East directly is impossible, until the end of the Africa Campaign. You have to travel around Africa instead.

There is also withdrawal requests. Based on history, the withdrawal of ships, planes, and I think even troops, is required (you get notifications on the unit info page for when the withdrawal will happen, so you aren't taken by surprise). Failure to withdraw these troops cost Political Points (you are given 50 per day) based on how valuable the unit is. Without political points you can't assign your own units to different theaters and HQs (very useful), so you end up handicapping yourself if you don't adhere to the withdrawals.

edit: and yeah, it did take a while to write that up haha. Though updates will come less frequently once the "grind" of the war starts up. Less will be happening. I had fun making that so I'm glad you enjoyed them.
